Absolutely love your Channel you're very beautiful lady on top of all that just curious I feel like the woke crowd is destroying the comic book industry what's your opinion on that you don't seem to come across as somebody that's down with the woke crowd but I could be wrong
Honestly Sasha it's a mixture of a drop in quality in the stories, crossover/tie-in hell and a cost of living crisis causing me to not read as much. After the recent Wonder Woman crossover that title was an unfocused mess. I loved Harley Quinn but the art style was terrible on the new volume. I do try to keep up with The Flash. Jeremy Adams does a great West family.
They never should've gotten rid of vampire Hal. He was the best part of the book! It just wasn't the same when you weren't constantly asking, "Why would Hal DO that?!"
I don't remember the exact number, but I fell off the wagon the moment vampire Hal "why would he do this" Jordan and Wonder Woman convinced the rest of the JL that Batman was the vampire, and confronted him and Green Arrow on the batcave. Because like, until that moment, the plan of the vampires was genuinely smart and metodical. Same for Batman and his team, trying to uncover who was converted without revealing they themselves knew it. But then that fight happens, and suddenly everyone grabs the idiot ball.
Yeah, that fight annoyed me. It was a classic example having characters make stupid decisions for the sake of some action, when the whole issue could have been resolved with some basic communication.
It was very bad fanfiction to me, yeah. Writing Bats and his relationship with the JLA as being just inherently untrustworthy, and having one or the other declare war on each other with but the slightest provocation.
A big problem with DC vs Vampires was because it came out a couple years after the more beloved DCeased. DCeased had a better story, was shorter, and there were fewer tie ins. It also did not go on a hiatus so they could publish the trade paperback collection. And most importantly, it was well thought through. I don’t believe for a second Nightwing was planned to be the Vampire King.
@@sarahhardy865 I have to agree with you that it was kind of stupid they killed off so many famous and beloved characters in the first issue, but, I think they did this so they could show they weren’t playing around. This was serious, and anyone could die. Ps. Dameon did not die
One of my favorite memories is when my sister started getting back into comics and didn’t know what was canon or not and she texted me “NIGHTWING IS THE VAMPIRE KING”
Vampire Hal was fun because you didn't know if he was like that because he was a vampire or if being a vampire was an excuse to do the things he did. That and the camp. Until you get halfway through and you realize "Oh, the writers didn't know either." I think that if they really wanted that "one of the good guys was the vampire king all along" twist, they should've made it either Batman or green arrow. Batman because it's so obvious no one would see it coming and you can go full camp. Or green arrow to subvert that Hellsing vibe.
I like this "just chatting about comics" format, too. It can be a nice break between the more in-depth or issue-specific shows with the backgrounds, graphics and fun voice-over readings. A way to speak generally about series or story arcs or where you think things are headed.
I think the nature of serials is that if you don't feel engaged each release or set reminders, it's super easy to forget and drop off them. I do it, too. So I like waiting for series to end first, or reading certain chunks all at once!
look man, my new 52 relationship was just not working out. Things got to complicated, it was hard to follow and I just don't think we could've stayed together.
@@ProjektTaku Plus there was such terrible communication on their part. Could never tell where they were or where they were going. So much back and forth with no direction.
The series was dumb fun with a light mystery. Once the vamps took over it became a joyless apocalypse slog. Vampire Hal Jordan = fun. Human blood farms = grimdark.
So glad you made this video as it was your original DC vs. Vampires video that led me to the series. Well enjoyed those early issues for their ridiculous high camp value, I didn't really last past the first two tie-in episodes. Something about the suspension of disbelief getting to redonkulous levels and being left with some characters I just didn't really care that much about. My theory is it the original plan was for a smaller series and then the word from on high directed them to milk the series, to lengthen the whole project, add all these superfluous ancillary issues, and make a bigger and more profit making venture of the thing. And I think that probably ruined it because they just didn't have enough story to make it work long term. I mean it's gutsy to kill off or turn seriously main characters early on, but then where do you go?
After watching her earlier coverage I wa shonestly unsure if she'd stopped simply because DC never finished it. Probably wasn't any demand for it...such a stupid, tired out concept even if it had all come out on time.
Loving the casual talks Sasah! I think the reason I keep coming back is to listen to your take/ideas on comics. You keep it fun. Really wish we had a person like you at our local comic shop. =) Casual awesomeness.
As one of the few people who was curious about why you stopped covering DC vs Vampires, thanks so much for clarifying why you stopped doing so. This is a series that requires heavy suspension of disbelief and I think forcing yourself to go through with it wouldn't have been fun. I intend to get the trade of this series at some point (if I can get it at a reasonable price). There's something about this series that clicks for me at least from the videos I've seen online. On one hand there's a schlocky B- horror movie vibe to it, while the paranoia of who is a vampire gets to me too. The tie-ins feel very forced and unnecessary - but I think they realized they wouldn't be able to milk this series to death like they did Dceased, so they had to publish a bunch of tie-ins now!!! I mean, I don't expect this thing to get a sequel...but I have been wrong before. One thing I found hilarious was the fact that Heatwave was turned into a vampire. Yes, the guy whose deal was "I can use two tiny flamethrowers" was not only turned but also put on an elite squad of vampires with 4 former Justice Leaguers. Lol. Sorry for the long rant.😅
You state perfectly my relationship with comics over four decades at about 4:30...the desire to collect all of something is really made so much more difficult when it's so expensive...and spread out, and not cohesive. I hope there are executives taking that to heart right now.
Sasha, I liked this chat -- I was only following DC vs Vampires through you, and I had honestly had forgotten that we hadn't heard about one in a while. As to dropping other series, I think I stopped reading and buying comics in general around the time of "Secret War" and "Secret Invasion" with all the tie ins. I still picked up titles on occasion, but that was the end of regular comics for me.
Yeah I fell out of love once Hal, he's just like Wonder Woman, Jordan died. Without his irregular sophisticated plots I didn't care for the zaniness anymore. Plus I was disappointed in who the Vampire King was, I was praying Alan would take Hal's place but alas.
I personally appreciate you posting this because I am enjoying DC vs Vampires and was looking forward to hear your thoughts. I kept coming back and would see that you hadn’t uploaded anything on it, so I was like, what’s up with that. Now I know. Thank you [>
I dropped off from comics entirely about a year into the New 52. I got tired of the rebooting, and didn’t want to fall into the camp of “they shouldn’t have changed this or that character.” Good on DC for trying something new (at the time) but I couldn’t keep going.
I love watching your videos wherher it’s casual or deep. Your name is casual comics so honestly I think it’s on brand. And I love hearing your unfiltered opinions and takes either way. I’m here for the comic fun but I stick around for your amazing personality!
Funny not that long ago I had the thought of, whatever happenend to that DC Vampire thing, so I skimmed your channel and only found the issue 6 and the tie ins, so I thought it was on hiatus. So yeah I totally would like a complete overview/review when it's done and if you've found your enthusiasm about it again, considering my only interest in that comicrun is your reading of it, you made the story really fun.
I like these kinds of videos. I also appreciate knowing why you dropped the series, since I’m still waiting for the rest of the reviews of Harley Quinn Black, White, and Red. 🙂 The main cause for me to lose interest in a series? Schedule delays. Once you’ve proven to me I can live without it, I often just do.
I have a request. What about a video explaining the age of the Fantastic Four children? Because it seems to me that Valeria ages faster than Franklin... it's kind of confusing. Love the channel, keep up the good work, congrats from Brazil!!!
@@FirstnameLastname-my7bz I agree with you, but I was just curious to know if there is some official explanation. And I'd also love to see Sasha's opinion about it. I just love her point of view on this kind of mess.
@@enricovargas4383 And, Yeah, Sasha's thoughts on the weird convolutions and inconsistencies are always interesting. I think part of that is a lot of writers don't know what to do with Franklin, part because of his power level and part because the character was created to "age up" with young readers who'd pick up the book. The legacy of that remains, I think, conflicting with comics' essential agelessness.
Longtime comics fan here. I have around 30 long boxes of comics but I honestly don't remember the last time I picked up a series on a monthly basis. Nowadays I usually watch comics UA-cam (like Casually Comics) and see what sort of comics runs are getting a lot of hype. If they sound interesting enough, I will pick up a trade paperback or buy digitally. Er, well I used to buy digitally before Amazon messed up Comixology, but that is a different can of worms.
As someone who has been all in on this from the start, and just adoring it still as we await the final issue of both the main event, and the All Out War tie in: You're right on the one shot tie ins. They aren't world building, they are essential. I also noticed that the HCs won't collect the one shots which seems completely wrong because they both contain vital plot details. But other than that, I have gotta say this has bee one of my favorite DC series. Highly recommend giving it a shot again once it's done and can be fully enjoyed. Great break down on the oh so familiar phenomenon of just sorta breaking up with a comic.
Here's where I will be honest... I don't really read comics anymore, at all. I got into comics way back in 1980, when my brother handed me his copy of The NEW Teen Titans #1, and later discovered Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew and just became a huge DC fan. Crisis on Infinite Earths was a major series in my life, and made me a solid DC fan for the rest of my life. My first real job was working at a comic company, in fact. I loved comics. I love superhero stories. But several things made me stop reading in general. First off, the annual "event" stories that had millions of tie-ins... I got sick of them all, especially when DC started making a million spin-offs from Crisis. But the big thing was when stories started being written to be collected into trades. I just wanted to read a comic and enjoy it, and I felt (and still do) that I can't do that anymore, especially at the price of each issues, and the trades were worse. But I still love superheroes, and your channel is my big window into it now, because you highlight the fun stuff.
I like you comment and relate to much of it. I *mostly* follow comics through reviewers these days too..... Haven't seen a mention of Captain Carrot & the Zoo Crew in quite a while and I lament that I'll probably never get to read "The Oz/Wonderland War".
I've grown fatigued with events in general, of any type. Same goes naturally for the tie-ins to those stories. I'm also completely over zombies and vampires. I feel they've been overused. I'd like to see more substance in the main books and not have to wait for an event for characters to do anything besides eat food and chat at a cafe.
Yes! More CCCC Candid Casually Comics Content please and yeah I can't do the comics struggle love thing anymore especially when it comes to crossover events.
My comics reading has been really weird lately. I've gotten really into manga lately, and I've found that I enjoy having more slice-of-life comics that aren't all about fighting or action. I also started grad school last year, and so I've been so busy and stressed that my brain feels very frazzled, so unless I can read an entire story in one sitting that doesn't tie into convoluted continuity, it isn't as fun. Plus, if I have free time to spend on comics stuff, I usually feel compelled to work on making my own comics than reading others. (That's part of what I like about your videos, since I can watch them and take in a comic while I work!) I liked this more conversational-style video. Obviously, I don't think it should be every video, but every so often is nice 🙂
Same. When i was a 13-14 years old, my favs are action comics and shonen manga. Now, a 23 year old me prefer slice-of-life, romance and comedy comic and manga. I still enjoy some dark, serious and gritty comics but i much prefer something more simple, light-hearted and wholesome like Spider-Man Renew Your Vows and Silk miniseries.
I love both. I really enjoy the casual chatting ones, but I appreciate the odd scripted dive into deeper lore. But do keep on chatting! It differentiates you from the zillion other lore channels.
I haven't been reading the actual comics of this series but I really enjoyed the way you poked fun at Nightwing and so that's what I was here for was how you poked fun at how ridiculous it was. It was the main series on your Channel that I was following other than the Lois is married series. But honestly, you should only cover it if you're enjoying it and feel like it's fun to cover, because your enjoyment is in part what we love about it.
I like everything you do whether casual or more formal. I don’t like tie-ins. They are a hard pass for me and actually prompt me to drop the entire storyline.
Thank you for this chit chat. It made me feel that I am not the only one that has this falling off a series problem. I been dying to read Dark Knights Death Metal. What deters me is all the tie ins that have to be read to get the full scope of the story. I haven't yet read DC vs Vampires, yet I feel that it's not a big enough event for it to warrant all these tie ins. I don't blame you for stopping. I did enjoy the previous videos you have done covering the series. I sure as heck don't want you to continue to do something that you're not feeling at this moment. Having chats like this is awesome. If you're not feeling the series, then move on as you did. It's not worth dragging yourself through something you don't enjoy. Thank you for all you do. I enjoy your videos a lot.
I'm grateful that you got me interested in a fun story like you always do. I also appreciate you coming and just doing your thing. I love to know where your mind is.
This happened with me and any form of broadcast entertainment- I stopped watching broadcast & cable TV years ago and have felt no desire to resume. The breaking point came during the second third season of The Flash, when i wondered 'why I am I watching this?' Turned off the TV and its been gathering dust ever since.
I definitely get what you mean Sasha, I've been loving DC Vs Vampires though I have fallen off for a while moreso due to cost reasons and then forgetting about them. I now typically only buy single issues for series' that absolutely interest me and for others I'll wait for the trade.
I'm glad to see you're pulling through. I broke up with a comic recently and it's been pretty hard on me. Sometimes I think "what happened next? I can stay invested." But I know it'll never be the same. I have to face the truth; that I'm only truly invested in Spider-Man and collecting Ultimate Spidey trades
I read very few comics these days. Right now my brother and I are in the middle of Immortal Hulk -- and we live in different cities, mailing the collected volumes back and forth as we acquire them! Honestly, that processes adds to the connection, and to the quaintness of being excited about a particular comic again. (Yeah, I used "Immortal Hulk" and "quaint" in the same comment. That's kinda weird) 💁😂
You hit on all the points I broke up with comics. I used to collect everything (or that's what it felt like) but I got to a point where I couldn't read everything I was buying. Plus the cost. When my bill hit 250$ (and bear in mind this was 30 years ago) I had to do some reassessment. Especially with all the tie-ins and cross-overs and then factor in the reboots, multiple titles, and alternate reality/timeline/whatever. It just got to be too much. Now I just get my comic fix with you. It's so much easier and more fun
I tend to just read webcomics now, because affordable, but also, I can just bookmark a page and then when I have an hour or so I can just right click and open 50ish tabs, wander off to get a soda while my CPU curses my name, and then just read what has been updated without having to remember what updates when.
I think the chat video is a great change of pace for your channel, it's all good content. Personally, I really hope you do dive into some more EC comics. I really enjoyed the Tales From The Crypt tv show/comic comparison video and I hope you do more of those.
You can do whatever kind of content you want! Honestly, your videos have been both informative and entertaining, and your scripted and unscripted content are nuanced and well thought out.
To answer "Where do I stand with comics lately?" I mostly just watch your channel. To quote the The Lost Boys, "Read the TV Guide, you don't need a TV." I will buy one of those massive Humble Bundle comic collections about once or twice a year. I kept up with the Joker series with the Punchline stories included. Joker was more about Gordon, and Punchline's social media story was really interesting, when the writers got around to it. I have too many hobbies, however. Eight dollars an issue is too much to read more than a couple of titles per month. I used to love Marvel comics but started to experience the exact same fatigue you described. The world ends every six months over at Marvel these days. It just keeps ending. Finally, it IS a great thumbnail. It's possible that we've all been there.
It’s not just you, the business practices of DC and Marvel are turning a lot of people away, high prices, terrible writers, bad artists (looking at you Rossmo), too many events, too many tie-ins, everything they’re doing is terrible. But this time last year I was getting 44 monthly comics, 22 from DC, then the rest were from Dynamite, Image, Boom and Mad Cave. Now I’m not getting a single comic, in January I dropped all my comics and switched completely to manga, I couldn’t be happier.
My reading EVOLVED...😂 To me, it was Nightwing being the Head Vampire that stopped me. That and Superman being turned... Turning off the Sun is death sentence for everyone humans and vampires. Many have a completionist mentality... It’s unfortunately compelling for those with OCD. Trying to finish something long past the time it no longer makes sense. I hate quitting anything but there’s a reason and life is too short. To me tiexins is like homework or research. I don’t like it in movies and definitely in comics. Reason: Decades from now new readers will be lost going through omnibus reprints; not know why this happened or timelines leading up to the event. Editor’s notes are few and far between these days. The tie-ins may be out of print or lost to time. Everything should be in the original source the story started out start to finish and not spread over several issues of different series.
I recently remembered this series cause of Halloween so thanks for the update vid. Actually went back to it for inspo cause I’m considering making a vampire Recovery suit Superman costume
You're a mom. A good mom because you have less time for your passions.. But your love of comics shines through your videos. I am grateful for your videos. I appreciate the humour, the nicheness, the nerdness, the overall fun and entertaining factor. Thank you. Don't stop. Being a mom or a wife or making these vids. When you have time, you have time. Simple. You're a great person.
I was entertained more than enough by this series just by checking out your coverage of it Sasha, it is good to see though that you've stopped buying since realizing that you're not interested. The videos are much better when you're covering topics/reads that you enjoy and find interesting above whether the book is new, flashy, and trendy and buying books that you're not into can kill the fun. I am reading Dark Crisis right now and the tie-ins are irking me a little because I'm really enjoying main books in the event but I've heard that several tie-in issues have essential information which is now pay-walled pretty much. I'm waiting to get them on sale for somewhere less than 4.50 usd each, that'd be nice. Getting a good sale on books give me life! Chitty-chatty sit down videos are fun imo, I definetely got hooked on the channel by the "meatier" videos like the overviews and character retrospectives but that doesn't have to be everything. I forget that I'm reading a series all the time and sometimes I get the chance to start reading them all over because I forgot everything! That just happened to me and my Gotham City Sirens TPBs, God those books are fun.
I collected comics for years. Started from racks at the local Beckers or Mac's to having them set aside for me at the local comic store. I had 74 longboxes ( collected over a couple of decades) when I finally stopped. It became work, I was enjoying it less and I had the opportunity to move for work which provided a great opportunity to put it on pause. A pause that lasted. Now I read the occasional digital comic but my desire to "keep up / keep current" is gone. Five years ago I sold the collection (yes, for next to nothing as I wasn't willing to do the work to "get full value").
I've gone off individual comics and moved on to waiting for it to come out in trade, and then I read it first through the library (and other means) and if I think I would come back to; repeatedly, then I will pick it up. The thing that got to me is all these big event comics. it's like "Hey kids read this comic and all the side comics because after this the (name of comic company here) world will never be the same. And you better collect it in a hurry because the next event will be coming out before the first event is finished."
I bought exactly one issue of DC vs. Vampires - the first issue of All Out War with the cool Stephanie Brown Batgirl backup story! Since Steph isn't in the main series, I have honestly only been following as you posted videos about it.
As usual, I love the content -- YOUR content. And dropping this series for the reasons you stated, the meme-ability not being there, is a good reason to put a stake in it for now.
I'm mostly a digital comic reader, so I have to get a decently strong or interesting recommendation to bother dealing with Comixology nowadays. Even in the before times I mostly picked up trades (or rather: collected volumes) simply because it was already all out either because it's famous or I'm going through a writers back catalog, so dropping was never really an issue for me. The current series I did drop were mostly just because they "run out of steam" - there was a promised theme and it either never delivered on it or did completely, without introducing new, interesting turns so it just ends up spinning it's wheels. For me this is the main reason I haven't touched the last Saga volume yet: I liked pretty much everything in it, but wasn't hooking me with anything at the end of volume 9, so haven't felt the need to pick it back up yet (I probably will at some point) A sharp drop in quality on new writers (never minded terrible art so long as the writing's good) is occasionally a thing too, but I consider that the comic dropping me 😋
I remember being so interested in Johnathan Hickman’s X-men and I did read every issue in his run. That being said I was never able to read all of x of swords due to it costing $111 to get every comic. I totally feel you. Tie-ins have had their moments in the past, but for the most part it just feels like it makes the story less accessible.
I’ve not been reading a lot of new stuff lately. Mostly Bronze Age and Post Crisis DC. Oh! And I also started reading Astro City based on your recommendation! Loving it so far!
Thank you for "Casually" making this casual video. TBH I 'noped' out as soon as I saw your first video. I don't have access to a local comic shop and until Previews and D.C. Connect start selling subscriptions to their magazines then I am not able to keep up with new stuff, so your video was the first time I heard of it and after Darkest Night and DCeased (I on collected the super-pets issues of that and then mostly only the trade hardcovers.) I'm not a big fan of Vampires and Zombies anyway. For me it was Fables. I was only following the collections, and I got through every on until about halfway through Volume 18 "Cubs in Toyland" and it took me over a year - once I heard it was coming back - to finally finish it and start on volume 19 but it's also started to seem like Willingham has needed to start to stretch for a decent big-bad and the super bad things that gave been happening to Snow and Bigby's cubs - not to mention Bigby himself - that I might not be able to keep going with it... we'll see. I'm really excited to get my damn dirty paws on #151. I generally follow characters I like instead of collecting a whole story or every issue of a thing. I follow Krypto the Super-dog and Ace (especially as a German Shepherd) The Bat-Hound. Dexx-Star is okay and furry GLs like Ch'p. As a matter of fact perhaps someone here can tell me. Are any of the D.C. pets in D.C. vs Vampires?
I never had interest for 3 reasons 1. Convergence swamp thing 2. Astro city invasion arc 3. I just really hate cheating narratives and vampires killing the spectre and phantom stranger is peak cheating for creatures weak to holy.
Honestly the more I can pretend the Vampires series doesn't exist the better. My local comic store pretty quickly stopped stocking them. When I asked they said because they didn't sell. My local store will put at least 5 copies of basically anything on the shelf for pity's sake.
The Ultimates vol 3. I LOVED volumes 1/2. Fantastic writing and stellar art and action set pieces. Enter Jeph Loeb and he killed years of really good storytelling in just a few issues for me. I was waiting months and some cases years for the new issues.
Jeph Loeb was never the same writer after his son died. He previously wrote some of the best and worst comics out there (more best than worst). It's been all bad ever since. Stan Lee had a similar issue. After a certain point he lost his touch.
@@wdcain1 What years were his Superman/Batman run? If the horrible issue in which Batman and Wonder Woman attack the underaged only living relative of their supposed friend in public and then basically kidnap her is after 2004, I'll agree.
@@TheHumanPurpleTape Totally. I was sooo hyped for that team up. Joe Mad hadn’t been seen in YEARS at that point and he choose to come back to this fantastic comic and it was a waste of his talents.
So glad I found your channel. I'm way behind in reading and seeing all the media of the last 5 years has made me dread catching up with all the controversial stories but your enthusiasm has helped me remember why I enjoy the medium. Kudos!!
Major Bummer is a comic I fell off on and then it got cancelled so I searched out the trade paperback years later. Battle Chasers is the series I fell off on because because they kept on missing their deadline so no one was ever sure when a new issue was coming out. Looking forward to your thoughts on DC vs Vampires next year when it is done.
Hearing you talk about DC and tie-ins really resonates with me. I just started buying comics again. In the last 10-15 years, I've only been to a comic store a handful of times. I just got back into it a month or two ago...and now in the last month I have been to multiple LCS in my area for multiple visits, and I've picked up about ~170 issues & a handful of TPBs/HCs, plus have some on pre-order...One of the first arcs I tried to get into was Dark Crisis and I'm really annoyed that it got me feeling like I had to buy all these other issues. The main story is okay. But feeling like I had to read all the tie-ins seemed like a waste of money. Aside from the main series 1-6 that I have, I also have Young Justice 2, 4, 6, I Am Batman 15, Flash 783, and Worlds Without Superman/Batman/WW/Green Arrow. None of these feel all that significant to the story - so little that some of the seemingly significant issues that I'm missing - Deadly Green, Green Lantern, and Young Justice 1, 3, 5, and Dark Army - I'm not even going to bother with, nor Dark Crisis 7 or any subsequent issues. Thing is...my completionist self inside, in coordination with my OCD self will eventually want to pick them up...hopefully they'll be on sale or clearance by then....
First & Most Importantly, That Joker Smile Lipgloss …” I Must Say You Look Marvelous “ I feel You about Mini/Multi Series that Make U have to buy other comics to complete the whole Arc Totally Turn Me OFF !!! , Especially if they are & interruption in another monthly comic arc that also try to get you into wanting to catch up with that arc 😡 So I’m a Trade Guy… This is a Fun Idea please Do More…Keep Up The Outstanding Work Sasha 🖖🏾
Here’s a perfect example of My rant: The Stephanie Brown Batgirl series came out in 3 trade books, however neither book 1 , nor book 2 had issue 8 of the series in it , this single issue ( which I did purchase) had Tim Drake Red Robin as a guest Hero. But also needed You to buy at least Red Robin issue 10 ( which I did not buy) to complete their team up story 😡 🖖🏾
I love your content and totally support your desire to have more relaxed conversational videos. 😊 For me I fell out if a lot of DC and Marvel comics and switched to manga because it felt there was always too much to cover or I didn't know where to start with a series. I loved the new X-Men because it felt not only fresh and new but also cohesive. I could follow the story and plot arcs. But then it kept going and the story started to splinter apart into different series. Certain plot points or arc's didn't seem to matter anymore. It felt like a daytime soap opera. One that would run forever with continuing more outlandish double crosses and reveals.
Ok, first of all, great vid :D Secondly... I guess the comic book series that I broke up with was Spawn. While I'm not into grimdark stories I kept reading and liked both the over the top and serious moments. Though after the God spawn thing and the reveal of him gut punching his pregant wife when alive really took me out (I know it was retconned a while later but I was so done). Plus characters I thought wouldn't symphatise with him did symphatise. I properly stopped reading with when the evilest of daughters got revealed and taken out in what I considered the dumbest of ways. Also the story itself really felt off after the God spawn arc thing. So yeah :3
Comic tie-in series were the reason I stopped collecting comics. I was a huge comic collector from the early 1970s until the late 1990s. I had over 1000 comics in my closet. But then the plague of tie-ins and crossovers became omnipresent. Marketing replaced the creative spirit I had come to love. I soured on comics, and I gave them up completely 10 years ago. Now my only relationship with comics is through Sasha, and Linkara at Atop the 4th Wall.
You might want to check out Chris over at Comic Tropes. He has a real love for the history of comics, and their creators. He just did a video on Gene Colan's work on Tomb of Dracula in the '70s. Since you like Sasha I think you'd like him, too.
I am really looking forward to what you plan for Halloween weekend on this channel I still love that creepy brave and bold 93 where batman dared entered the house of mystery
I have fallen in and out of love with the main Batman title from the intro of Jean Paul Valley to when Kelley Jones took over monthly interior art (he's good on some stories but not EVERY story) Contagion to the end of volume one, New 52 to Rebirth, SOME King stories (ONLY a handful), James Tynion IV's run and then dropped again (for now).
Me and comics... I DO read some webcomics, but when it comes to "real" comics I life wholeheartedly vicariously through UA-cam videos like yours. It IS an expensive hobby and I value rent over entertainment at the moment. In the future? Who knows. Keep trucking! We, the fans, DO love hearing from you :).
I really enjoy your more casual Casually Comics videos. I like watching you just chatting about what you're reading generally. I haven't kept up much with modern comics for a long time (though I keep abreast of developments through comic book news sites.) Too many silly stunts, deaths, retcons and giant crossovers in modern comics, and I'm allergic to that crap. The most recent major storyline I remember reading is the Winter Soldier stuff from Ed Brubaker's Captain America run. These days the only superhero book I read is Moon Knight (one of the best runs Marvel has done with the character) and despite the fact that he's been my favorite superhero since I was a kid, I even stayed away from *his* giant crossover when he apparently defeated all the Avengers somehow and turned the world into Egypt for a few issues. My philosophy is all event comics are bad and no comic company has given me a reason to doubt it for a very long time now. RANDOM SUGGESTION TIME, TRUE BELIEVERS! -- Check out The Bulletproof Coffin from Image Comics. Collected in two convenient trades. Kirby-style silver age wackiness. Seriously, just check out the art from Shaky Kane. I think you will definitely want to spend your hard-earned sheckels on it. FACE FRONT!
I found myself nodding along with what you were saying. I also really heard your tone of voice. For me I'm kinda falling off the power rangers comics (please cover it!) I LOVE the series but right now I'm confused on what issue is happening, who is doing what etc. I've been trying to follow one team but then found out the other team's shit is really important and- UGH. I want to wait until the end of the year and see if I can jump back in
For me the best thing about this was the suspense of not knowing who was a vampire and who wasn’t. Once that was lost there wasn’t too much too it. It didn’t have the same emotion as DCeased because when someone was turned they just entirely seemed to jump ship on humanity. It tried to be DCeased but it just didn’t have the emotional impact that I think they wanted when someone betrayed others. But the suspense was still great those first couple of issues
Love your videos, great thumbnail, I like it more than the Spider-Man cereal thumbnail personally. I was interested in hearing how the story ended but I haven’t bought any singles except Jurassic league, I usually collect the paper packs of venom and never miss a lobo comic
This was cool Sasha. I gave up on monthly issues while trying to collect some back issues of a series that was running. Unable to find some I decided just wait until the GN was out. I keep an eye on current things from channels and sites like this. The Authoritative Calvin and Hobes, Power Rangers Volume #2, Hawkeye: Kate Bishop as a re-read
It’s honestly very understandable talking about how jaded you can get when there’s masses of stuff coming out. About 90% of entertainment is not that great these days and DC has so much fat that can be trimmed. Hope pregnancy is going alright! The content is usually more enjoyable when your enjoying talking about it.
For me Happened in the Return of White Knight, I sincerelly tought it ended in a awesome tone at de first arc so I forgot to return while I was on the Second One, and well, maybe someday, its a common thing to happen.
To the point on the tie ins; I feel that with bigger series like these, publishers intentionally do this since the trend has been more towards TPBs than individual issues; they start the run strong, determine interest, then scatter the issues across tie-ins with other titles so that they can collect them all together more conveniently later... Double dipping on charging you for that first handful of issues plus the TPB on the back end. The people that are going to buy all the issues are likely already going to do that anyway as collectors
My comic break-up was Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men. Most of the characters didn't talk or act in ways that were complete character shifts with no explanation. I don't mind characters changing, development is a lot of fun, but most of his changes were abrupt and out of left-field. His big climax to the story arc was killing Jean Grey...again. There was a lot of edge-lord and no substance to it.
Lol this may be the most UA-cam thumb I've ever made I'm both proud and ashamed.
I for one enjoy it really! "We should read other people" lmao
I...didn't see it coming.
It was unexpected but fits with the title, so I'd say its pretty good and funny!
I can't believe you're holding another clayface from us lol
They never should've gotten rid of vampire Hal. He was the best part of the book! It just wasn't the same when you weren't constantly asking, "Why would Hal DO that?!"
"Oh Hal no."
@@ashleytuchin7693 Or with voice-activated holy water sprinklers.
And I stopped reading DCeased because Nightwing, Batman and Robin died in the first issue.
I was wondering why I didn't even try to read DC vs Vampires. Thank you for reminding me of DCeased
@@sarahhardy865 I have to agree with you that it was kind of stupid they killed off so many famous and beloved characters in the first issue, but, I think they did this so they could show they weren’t playing around. This was serious, and anyone could die.
Ps. Dameon did not die
@@sarahhardy865 DC does have other great characters...
DCeased is trash bin rubbish by comparison to DC vs Vampires. Felt nothing ‘bout the deaths/zombiefying. Not haunted by my feelings.
A casual episode of Casually Comics. I'm here for it. Who knew we'd discuss commitment issues with comics? Not me. I like it. Feels like a live stream
You have been pumping out content like CRAZY this month!
One of my favorite memories is when my sister started getting back into comics and didn’t know what was canon or not and she texted me “NIGHTWING IS THE VAMPIRE KING”
Nightwing as vampire king sounds awesome in light of Ric Grayson being canon for a while.
You could say your passion was dead for the vampire comic.
[Nods in approval]
Her passion is un-dead
*yes*
It’s okay, the series wasn’t holding up its end of this relationship.
Youre the only person in my comic side of the community covering this, and if YOU aren't covering it... Then it's lost to the ether for me then lol
Honestly, your commentary was the most entertaining thing about DC vs Vampires for me.
It's almost like the modern comic industry's business model is bad for business
It's fine. You're already in a committed relationship with Silver Age comics. It's pretty serious.
look man, my new 52 relationship was just not working out.
Things got to complicated, it was hard to follow and I just don't think we could've stayed together.
@@ProjektTaku Plus there was such terrible communication on their part. Could never tell where they were or where they were going. So much back and forth with no direction.
@@BrandonVout yeah.
I just can't stay when they won't fully commit.
@@ProjektTaku Mixed signals, saying one thing and doing another, having to always question the follow-through when being made promises.....
@@TitularHeroine exactly.
You see, that's why I got with the silver age. Sure their a lil weird and goofy, but they always commit and have no shame.
I don't blame you for stop reading DC vs Vampires.
Apparently it was delayed for so long that even I was surprised DC was releasing the books.
I would love a playlist started going through Peter Parker’s love interests. I had no idea he had any outside the main 3 (Mj, Gwen, Felicia)
I really do enjoy these more casual episodes.I’ve been reading and collecting comics with no break since 1989.I’ve seen so much come and go.
Definitely do a few more casual discussions about comics. Reinforce your theme wherever you can!
The main cause for me to lose interest in a series? Schedule delays. Once you’ve proven to me I can live without it, I often just do.
I have a request.
What about a video explaining the age of the Fantastic Four children? Because it seems to me that Valeria ages faster than Franklin... it's kind of confusing.
Love the channel, keep up the good work, congrats from Brazil!!!
@@FirstnameLastname-my7bz
I agree with you, but I was just curious to know if there is some official explanation.
And I'd also love to see Sasha's opinion about it. I just love her point of view on this kind of mess.
@@FirstnameLastname-my7bz Best advice ever.
Yes more casual chat please! It feels easier to jump in on and more like just hanging out.
(That's part of what I like about your videos, since I can watch them and take in a comic while I work!)
I liked this more conversational-style video.
I picked up this series because of your coverage.
Now I feel like I have to finish it
I was going to read it but when I saw the amount of tie-ins, I was overwhelmed and decided that it's not worth it. I loved this kind of video, btw.
Love the casual vid. I was never reading DC vs Vampires but I loved your coverage.
I like the casual chats, sometimes you just need to chat.
Love this format of casual chatting!
To quote the The Lost Boys, "Read the TV Guide, you don't need a TV."
I will buy one of those massive Humble Bundle comic collections about once or twice a year.
My reading EVOLVED...😂
To me, it was Nightwing being the Head Vampire that stopped me.
Reason: Decades from now new readers will be lost going through omnibus reprints;
not know why this happened or timelines leading up to the event.
Looking forward to the return of the claylist, or Clays of our Lives, as I like to call it.
For me this is the main reason I haven't touched the last Saga volume yet: I liked pretty much everything in it, but wasn't hooking me with anything at the end of volume 9, so haven't felt the need to pick it back up yet (I probably will at some point)
A sharp drop in quality on new writers (never minded terrible art so long as the writing's good) is occasionally a thing too, but I consider that the comic dropping me 😋
I remember being so interested in Johnathan Hickman’s X-men and I did read every issue in his run.
P.S. I'm on disability income, so my ability to afford more things is severely restricted.
I never had interest for 3 reasons
1. Convergence swamp thing
2. Astro city invasion arc
@@BrandonVout Jeph Loeb's DC stuff from late '99 to '04 is absolutely amazing, not a bad issue in the lot.
Yeah that Joe Mad art had us all drinking the kool-aid in that one...
For me I fell out if a lot of DC and Marvel comics and switched to manga because it felt there was always too much to cover or I didn't know where to start with a series.
Ok, first of all, great vid :D
Secondly...

Thanks!
I am really looking forward to what you plan for Halloween weekend on this channel I still love that creepy brave and bold 93 where batman dared entered the house of mystery
It's just impressive that you can do what you do with that small child around! I appreciate it greatly! 😊🥰😘♥️💞💓
I’m always looking for entertaining people to watch their takes on comics, I’m glad I found this channel...subbed😊
I want to wait until the end of the year and see if I can jump back in
Love all your content. I always enjoy your casual video chats too.
I don't often laugh at Jojo's references, but that one hit just right.
Get casual as often as you like. I dig all your content.
I would love to see a casual talk video about your bookshelves!
