- New York has an amazing food scene but there's some MUST TRY VEGAN food that's iconic to New York City. New York is known for pizza, bagels and cream cheese, and deli meat sandwiches. But can you eat this vegan? Yes, you can! In this episode of Rated V I show you where to find New York style vegan pizza, bagels and unreal deli "corned beef" style. What a sweet owner at Tompkin’s Square Bagels! I like his inclusivity! And, you look so happy when you bite into the bagels. I’d love to try them!

You can kinda see the difference in business ethics of the bagel place owner and the deli owner. The former offers vegan options for inclusivity while the latter seems to be doing it because it's lucrative.
Yup.
I know this is sacreligious, but that corned "beef" sandwich looked like it would benefit from some more toppings and less meat, since faux meat is drier than animal product. A creamy sauce, more mustard, onions and tomatoes would probably make it heavenly!

Even when I ate meat, half a hat meat would have had to have come off that sandwich. Just piled way too high. I definitely thought the same with that vegan one. Grab a loaf of bread on the way home, and sandwiches for several days.

On a side note: It would benefit owners to taste what they’re serving in their restaurants. That being the first time he’s had the sandwich is odd to me. Hopefully, he looks for things that will improve the sandwich. I mean…If it “isn’t for you” then what would make it better for you? That should just be a given as a restaurant owner.
I'm sure he tried it before, and was just trying to be nice.

@@ageebs5986 I know that. I believe he was lying because he felt cornered and wanted to avoid trashing the product publicly. No restaurant owner worth their salt would put an item on their menu without trying it first. No surprise when he was forced to admit he didn't like it.

Desperately missing NYC bagels. Next time you’re there you MUST try one of the vegetarian dim sum houses. They’re mostly vegan and sooo good. As for Sarge’s, I don’t know how he’s running a restaurant selling food he never tried 😂 its nice he was willing to sit down with you and try but he was sort of rude about it.. and it shows they don’t care looking at how they presented that sandwich lol. I agree it’s good they have an option but I wouldn’t go out of my way to them considering the plethora of great intentional vegan places in the city :)
Yes the NY Bagles are the BEST! And I got to try Bodhi vegan in Chinatown for all vegan dim sum and it was AMAZONG! Yeah I still enjoyed speaking with Andrew from Sarges and grateful he provides a vegan option. thanks for watchin teh video!! Appreciate your support!

I LOVE bagels and the best bagels that I found were in Jersey City! This little store near the PATH station back in 2000 and their bagels were off the hook! Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside. Love it, Eunice!

Hey There, to say I just subscribed to your channel. This is first video for me. What took me away tho was the traditionally made bagel with the creamy ooze! The variety of cream cheese is just wow! Then the pizza looks amazing! Toppings on both most popular pizzas are unbeatable. I have yet to go have a grub at any of these spots out in NYC but I sure will now! I’m a connoisseur to vegan foods so I love going from place to place trying all these great creations. There are several places out in the city that you will love and might want to add on. Let me say this, for one ..

I’ll never go to that last dude restaurant. He did sell me on it at all.
That says a lot about Andrew's devotion to meat. He didn't even try the product before selling it and he's not impressed at all so that's a challenge for Mrs. Goldfarb to step up her game and reformulate. And Andrew, stop being such a typical New Yorker. You may find that these kinds of faux meats will save you one day.

Surprised they teamed up with this Deli - they couldn't care less about it and are so against the idea of being vegan.

@@ratedvfood To be fair my mom is an amazing cook and food is my passion. Alright I'm going to be totally honest, I don't really like their vegan food options but maybe you can find some. A super popular place is
-The Southern V, vegan soul food, my least favorite restaurant but people rave about it.
-Be-Hive Deli and Market, deli options and teeny weeny store, our regular go to
-Vegelicious, soul food, they're okay, the mac and cheeze...nomas no 😐. The prices are high
-Wild Cow, a variety of food, used to be our favorite but got expensive and less flavorful
-East Side Banh Mi has vegan options, we like it
-Graze, variety of food. But Nope, bland, cold, just no. Maybe they have changed.
-Sunflower Cafe, a variety of healthy food, my favorite except for the sides lol
-Sunflower Bakehouse, hell no, we just ordered entrees no baked goods maybe the baked goods are better.
-Avo, never been but people rave
-Radical Rabbit, pop up southern food, it looks insane!!! We haven't had the pleasure of trying her food.
-Succulent Vegan Tacos. Never been but want to
There are other places that sell vegan options that I haven't tried but for sure I do not recommend Vui's Kitchen for vegan options the pho was bland and the tofu bao bun was gross, sorry it was.
When I open up my vegan place you are invited to sample anything you want and be brutally honest about it 😂

Everywhere seems really lovely and definitely worth a try. That being said, i would not go to “Sarge’s” to have the deli meat. I would just look for it elsewhere. Every word of what he said sounded disingenuous.

You are awesome but I have an unrelated (to veganism) question that I've been wondering for a few years now and watching your videos made me wonder this yet again. Why are young people dressing like tacky people from my high school years (late 70's/early 80's)?

You always make it fresh every time and I always want to try whatever it is you are eating.I love your enthusiasm and just pure joy in all the vegan food you eat. I have been to NYC many times but haven't been in a long time and this video made me want to take a trip there again to try these places that didn't exist the last time I was there (especially that bagel place). I also love how you handled the meat-eater deli owner. You were so diplomatic and charming. Regarding fashion, it's just funny how young people seem to be wearing these 70's/80's clothing items ironically. That is my impression anyway or maybe I'm wrong. Are they wearing these items ironically or sincerely?

Being vegan isn't cheap here in Aoetearoa ( google it to know the country ) it costs you more of a strangling budget to be vegan rather than eating meats and meat foods I was vegan in my young pre-school days but I'm unable to find any cheap vegan restaurant or shops here I'm not paying 10$ for a vegetable and it's only one vegetable yeah now U understand why I ain't vegan it's cheaper to eat meat rather than eating any vegetables based foods
FYI for anyone wondering what this person is referring to: Aotearoa is the current Maori language name for New Zealand. Also, a friend of mine is from NZ/Aotearoa, and they are vegan. It can be expensive, but they have found lots of creative ways to make it happen. Good luck with your own journey.
