The Zeiss lens wipes are by far the best, I’ve been buying them for years!

Your EDC comment brings me to an off topic but interesting point about what you should carry or rather, can carry. Mr. Allison I know you are a Texan resident as am I and I am curious about your stance on a firearm(pistol). Do you believe there is a place for it in a gentleman's wardrobe? I know its a polarizing topic and don't expect it to be answered. But just in case what is your stance and could you make a video on it at some point? Love your videos and I look forward to more content!

As a practicing Optometrist located in NYC I would like to commend you on your eyewear Kirby,
I am a 35 year old Optometrist practicing for almost 10 years from Brooklyn, you have been an inspiration in my style evolution especially in the last 2 years. I do agree that my patients and co-workers have started to respect and notice my upgraded wardrobe.
Also, your transition lenses are called PhotoChromatic lenses (not -polychromatic)
    Otherwise great Vid as always!
P.S. please consider doing a review of Carmina shoes (especially their Shell-Cordovan line) TIA!

By the way Kirby, next time you’re in town, feel free to reach out to me,
We can discuss a new set of lenses (Blue-Blockers) with an Anti-Glare coating for a fraction of what you paid 😊 Cheers!

For interesting design you should look at Lindberg (have had fantastic results for 25 years with various frames they have made). It would be awesome to have you do some videos on the unique design and engineering from various manufacturers in Europe and elsewhere. Keep up the great work.

I've been wearing the same oval Gaultier frames since 2002. I've only needed to have them repaired once. Personally I don't understand the idea of buying frames year after year. The key is take utmost care and maintenance of your glasses as well as you take care of your shoes or anything else in your wardrobe.

Like all the fashion brand spectacles, they are manufactured by Luxottica. And since they are constantly "updating" the fashion aspect of their products, most glasses will change over time and some will look quite dated after a few years. But in the end, I'd find it quite boring to wear the same pair of glasses for more than 3 years.

Kirby, the preferred fabric of choice to clean lenses is a quality microfiber towel specifically for that purpose. Not a cotton nor silk pocket square or silk tie.

Great Video!!! The best way to keep your eye glasses clean is to keep a microfiber cloth in your wallet. It's very inexpensive and doesn't take to much place in the wallet. Also you can use it for multiple times and then wash it when dirty.

Great content, as come to be expected. Though I too had been asking for this video for quite some time, I’m glad you finally fit it out. I was wondering if you could be so kind as to possibly add the actual spellings to some of these brands that you mentions, particularly the eyewear brand which produced your dark brown horn frames, as to be honest, it’s often difficult to spell some of these brands when trying to look for their items online, when their mere pronunciation is quite foreign to some of us state side. Thank you.
PS: have you seen the Allen Edmond frames they’re now putting out and if so, can you review them as well?

Another great video from Mr. Allison. Thank you. My question is in regards to clothing valets. They are not always cheap and take up a degree of space. I noticed that you do not sell them at The Hanger Project. What is your personal opinion on these? Do they have value in ones morning routine? Thank you

Your readers may be interested that I have just ordered a pair of hand-built designer eye glasses from a French manufacturer and similar to the design you show first here, and not real tortoise shell. The company is called Clairvaux, I live in England but I guess are available in other countries. I got mine through a local independent opticians.

    Hello Kirby,
Thanks for sharing the brand names of your eye wear collection!
Luckily I have 4 pairs of eye wear frames made out of turtle shell! I have Purchased them in Hamburg Germany, store called “ Campbell”, when the material was legal to sell. They are like new old stock!
Would not mind selling the ones I dont use.

I actually have a small stash of instant coffee that I bring back from Europe whenever I pass through. If you think I'm joking, taste the instant coffee in Europe (it's extremely popular out there, way more than in the US), and you will taste a marked difference I bet.

Zeiss will tend to smudge lenses if used alone. Keep a fine weave microfiber cloth handy, I recommend Clearlens brand.
Also if one does need to buy wipes in emergency, believe it or not the cheap CVS brand works better than one would think and those have never once scratched mine yet. But those are the exception in my experience, stay clear of other cheapo wipes at the drug store, like Tesco or Medca, they're awful and will scratch lenses.

Hey Kirby! Thanks for the informative video!
One question regarding the material: Do you notice differences between horn and acetate and if so, which? I'm thinking about getting a hornframe but I'm not yet completely convinced as it is quite rare to come by (and expensive)
Thanks and please keep up the videos!

    • @kirbyallison

I'm super happy with my acetate glasses. Horn is nice, but unless you just want a custom fit or design, probably not worth the premium.

    • @BENNanza

@@kirbyallison Thank you very much, this helps! There are some very elegant and beatiful acetate frames out there.

    • @vegancrabcakes
      @vegancrabcakes 9 місяців тому

@@BENNanza Horn can be quite beautiful, but it is a little less durable in my experience. The horn is created by laminating several thin layers, and therefore over time you can begin to see small cracks or tiny areas of delamination occurring. Acetate also has a tendency to get hazy and oxidized over time with wear, but either material should last for at least 5 years in my opinion. Going forward, I will probably stick with acetate, partially because I trust local opticians to replace the lenses on acetate frames more, which adds to convenience and cost savings.
