      I've had the LX7 and LX100($400 used!) and really liked them both. The panasonics are amazing in many ways. Great results but In the end I just wasn't comfortable with the LX100's ergonomics. I tend to buy a lot of gear second hand, use it for awhile, and then pass it on. Between that and borrowing cameras, I try as much gear as I possibly can.You might see me creeping around on Craigslist sometime. lol.

    You can manually turn off evf in settings or set evf to screen switch manually with a programmed button. And no firmware update will do what you ask if there is no sensor to detect that the screen is swiveled out.

  • @sheikshahedjamil2495
    @sheikshahedjamil2495 6 років тому

    Hello, its funny that you didn't get that the screen out problem is not a problem. There's probably a sensor shutting it off the screen when you are close to the view finder. Same thing happens to smartphone when you receive a call and hold it against your face. So, here the screen is shut as soon as you get close to view finder placing your face close. It makes complete sense why Sony did that.

  • @melons_and_lime
    @melons_and_lime 6 років тому

    Dear Jeff, your complain about the LCD turning off is actually not a problem. The camera has a proximity sensor near tha EVF that senses your face when you are using the EVF. When it senses any object near the sensor it automatically turns off the LCD which makes a lot of sense since we don't need the LCD whenever we peek through the EVF. But if you really hate it, you can go to menu, go to tab 2, page 3, FINDER/MONITOR. By default the setting is auto but you can switch it to viewfinder or monitor. In your case you should choose monitor and you will not get that issue of the LCD switching off anymore.

    A6000 was the first Sony camera I bought and got me move over from Nikon. I carry it in my bag next to A7r3 and is in regular use. For me all FE lenses work fine on A6000 but APSC lenses on A7r3 reduces image size from 42 to 18 which is “why not use A6000” to me. I use 55mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8 FE on A6000 all the time, Zeiss Touit 32mm is great, sigma 16mm f1.4 is wonderful, Lensbaby is creamy; I don’t own any but assume all G Master zooms will work. With Metabones adapter, I can use almost all my Nikkor lenses in full frame mode; focus peaking makes manual focusing a no brainer. Nikkor AIS 35mm f2.0 works better on A6000 than on Nikon D500, and it’s cheap on eBay. Therefore, I feel A6000 has more lens selection than full frame Sony and not as demanding.

    • @jeffrendered3564
      @jeffrendered3564  6 років тому

      Alex Hsu I agree. There are tons of lenses you can adapt to the Sony cameras. But there are couple of issues I have with that. One is the price. Metabone adapters goes for about $400-$500. That’s more than the camera itself. Simga’s mc 11 is about $200...which is more reasonable. 2 is the performance. From what I have researched, seems like the adapters work much better on higher end Sony cameras. Granted it still works on the a6000, but the way I shoot and the subject matter I shoot, I do need the fastest autofocus I can get my hands on. Now for people who shoot non moving subjects, the adaptor route is a great option. Thanks for leaving a thoughtful comment!

    Um.... the blackout is a setting you need to change in the menu. (although I now the sony A7 has it, not sure if this one has it) but as far as I know, you switch off the viewer-sensor.

  • @quinnsteer5631
    @quinnsteer5631 6 років тому

    Correct me if I'm wrong but, focal length effects available light to the sensor yes. however a 4/3 sensor is simply cropping the focal length so there is no reduction in light hitting the sensor. The shutter speed will be the same wether the lens is on a full frame or APS-C. All other points are completely valid. Keep up the good work.

    • @jeffrendered3564
      @jeffrendered3564  6 років тому

      Hi. Focal length doesn’t effect the amount of light hitting the sensor...aperture and shutter speed does. Focal length affects the angle of view. Hope that helps :)

    Here's one more reason: I bought an A6000 in March 2018 .. the camera worked great for 2mos before developing a memory card issue .. it seems that this camera and several other Sony models are notorious for this "can't read memory card" error and there seems to be no fix for it .. I bought new cards, I tried several other cards that I already had and the issue will not go away.. and doesn't allow me to format any cards .. its a very common issues I discovered while trying to find a solution online ... some folks were lucky enough that there's started working again, others like myself, have a newly bought camera that's nothing more than a paper weight now

    • @concernedcitizen5320

      I wish I could .. I bought it through a used camera gear store .. it only had 1550 clicks on it .. it worked absolutely fine the first 2mos and then, just out of the blue, this issue pops up

    Love my Sony a5100, but firmware updates seem nonexistent. Love the 35mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, and Sigma 16mm 1.4. The biggest problem with third party lenses is no OSS. The Sigma also has noticeable autofocus noise (sound) which is very annoying. Also, the new 18-135mm seems like a decent all-around travel lens, but for $600???

    • @jeffrendered3564
      @jeffrendered3564  5 років тому

      It's a blessing and a curse. I've gotten out of many jams because I didn't have a permit to shoot...but i show the security guards my camera, and convinced it's not a professional camera because of how small it is. :D Depends on what you shoot...get a battery grip and use the lens hood...just those two things make your camera seem much bigger...flash definitely helps too, but kind of useless if you don't actually use flash. Thank you for sharing!

      @@jeffrendered3564 in that instance I really needed the flash, as it was my very first indoor conference for three days in a row. I was still learning about photography and didn't realise how dark it would be indoors. Ended up using the built in flash loads. Now I own 7 different flashes for my A6000. Used one last night to shoot an MMA match where flash is allowed. Was a real life saver

    Don't worry about what people think dude, only the results matter unless you like busting your balls with a heavy camera just to look cool. 1/100th shutter speed should be fine for a 50mm lens on a crop sensor body, you're right probably a user error. The easy fix would be to shoot in manual if you know how.

    Love to hear the negative side of a camera. The very first camera that we owned is also from Sony and we were having a lot of of difficulty after a year (I guess?) It turns off on its own, overheat, the screen or the menu is also moving on its own. But this a6000 seems to be a good camera for me although I'm thorned between mirrorless or dslr. Anyways, thank you for this. ❤

    My understanding of cameras was that one should double the fps...24fps should be matched with a shutter speed of 1/48 0r 1/50 ; why do you double the shutter accordn to the aperture??? Thanks

    • @jeffrendered3564
      @jeffrendered3564  6 років тому +1

      darqmage65 hi. Doubling the shutter speed of the frame rate is for video. In photography, doubling shutter speed of the focal length is to prevent camera shake, which could result in blurry photos, especially with higher focal length lenses. Hope that helps :)

  • @chrisc7707

    I shoot an a7 II, same issue with the EVF, and in fact, there is a complete lack of software updates as well. Granted, we have been getting a ton of lenses as of late, but when I first bought it, I was struggling to find lenses that *weren't* APSC.
    On a side note, there's no reason not to use FE lenses on an a6000. Most of them are still quite small. I know plenty of a6xxx shooters using the FE 28 f2 for example

  • @LarzB
    @LarzB 6 років тому +16

    Sorry, but most of your points are faulty.
    The black out of the screen is a feature to switch between the screen and the viewfinder which can be turned off in the settings. So no firmware update needed. It's in there already.
    There are plenty lenses. You can put all full frame lenses in it, the basic need is available and Sigma and other brands are picking up e mount lens options. And the apperture priority with the shutter speed is to keep your iso lower.. maybe your Max iso is too low for the situation and it lowers the shutter speed.. if this is so important to you, you can control it all..
    To me it sounds like you haven't figured out totally yet how the a6000 operates..
    I think the only real complaint you can really make is that the menu system is cluttered and not always clear.

    • @jeffrendered3564
      @jeffrendered3564  6 років тому +3

      The blackout is definitely an issue...because Sony fixed it in their higher end models...they wouldn’t go through the trouble if it was a non issue. Enough people have complained that they recognize it as a problem.
      There are plenty of lenses...but not NATIVE apsc lenses. I personally want the fastest autofocus possible and though third party lenses has made improvements, you still need adaptors and the hit rate is lower. And you are right, there are full frame lenses. But they are very pricey. And for some people, the focal lengths don’t always work out. 85mm on a crop is close to 130 and personally that’s too far from my subjects for my style.
      As far as the shutter speed goes...reciprocal rule states that the shutter speed should be twice the focal length. Granted it’s a very old film day rule, but it was taught for a reason. I think Sony might have over estimated the capability of their OSS...on a 75mm equivalent lens...I feel like 100 is a bit slow. What’s the point of protecting iso when your images are blurry? I shoot thousands of images a week and it’s happened enough times that it has became a thing that I have to remind myself. I don’t know how much 1:1 retouching you do, but you notice it.
      I don’t know everything about the a6000 but I know enough or more than the average shooter. The menu is actually one thing I don’t have complaints. With the function button, almost everything I need to access is one click away.
      You can say you don’t experience these problems but to claim my personal experience is faulty is arrogant. We don’t use the camera the same way nor do we shoot the same style and subject. Go through the comments, there are people that disagree with me and there are also plenty of people who feels the same way I do.

    • @LarzB
      @LarzB 6 років тому +1

      Jeff Rendered there is no blackout.. i have the a6000 and the screen going black because of the proximity sensor is a feature that can be turned off in the a6000.
      I'm just saying that some of your points don't hold up as there are very easy solutions to them. If your a serious photographer you don't shoot in mode A but in M to control aperture and shutter speed yourself. A proximity sensor that can be turned off is not a bug if you don't know how to turn it off.
      Camera size.. i understand and people will just have to judge you on your pictures, not the size.
      I agree that Sony could have more fast Sony branded native lenses specifically for apsc. But even without adapter there are other brands like sigma etc who are releasing native lenses for the e mount.

      BubbleWrap&DuctTape: You fail to understand him, the point is, is that if the screen is tilted out it should prevent the EVF from being activated.

    • @LarzB
      @LarzB 6 років тому +1

      Suzy Siviter if you till it up it doesn't active, neither down, only if you pull it towards you and up it could go in front of the evf proximity sensor, which is a unneeded position of the screen as then it is not tilted any direction, so i don't see the point..bi never have issues activating the proximity sensor in any tilt. And yes if you put your fingers somewhere there it can't distinguish your finger from your cheek. Anne you don't have to put it on automatic.. you can select it manually and turn off the proximity sensor.

    • @suzesiviter6083
      @suzesiviter6083 6 років тому

      BubbleWrap&DuctTape: Its a very small point really, however its also easy for Sony to include a little microswitch to detect the tilt; which they did on later cameras. My point is its better to have that switch then not, not that it is an issue of significance.

    Jeff - I shoot my Canon L lenses via Metebones speed booster - and absolutely love the combination. I keep holding out hope that Canon can draw me back, but until then my L's perform great on my a6000, a6300 and a7rIII. On the crop lenses, getting to shoot an f4 at f2.8.... awesome. Give it a try. And by the way, an a6xx with an L lens mounted "looks" professional to a lot of people who don't know any better than to judge a photographer by their gear.

      Thanks for the tip! I’ve researched the adapted lens route, and from what I can gathered, both the metabone and mc 11 work pretty well with Sony’s higher end models, but it’s a hit and miss with their 6k line. Maybe they’ve made some firmware updates, if that’s the case, it will be a great option! I freakin love my a6000...still can’t believe Sony crammed so much functionality into a package that small and affordable!

      Hi. The absolute truth is Sony lenses are good. In fact, most modern lenses are good. If I made two prints. One shot on a Sony lens and the other on a ziess, or whatever brand that’s considered “high quality”, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. No actual pro photographers, people who make a living with photography...not UA-cam reviewers, would have any problems with using lenses from any manufactures. There are tons of amazing artists, creating stunning photographs, using all sorts of cameras and lenses. My advise is to focus on the art, not gear.

      hi. I would suggest you watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/OQ1-lTg6AoQ/v-deo.html it's a tutorial video on how to use the a6000. It goes over basic settings and advanced settings. Sony camera's have a lot of functions, and so their menu system is very deep. Spend time messing around with the options. The functions i use the most is the fn button (aka the function button). it's basically a quick menu...where your most used functions are only a button away. hope this will help you get started. I know the video is about the things i hate about the a6000, but I love this camera, and would recommend it to just about everyone! :D

      Hey thanks for replying and so quickly :) how's the video quality? I watched a video and though each frame looked good the quality was super jumpy. Is that something the photographer was doing wrong or is this camera just not good for video? Was hoping to do some blogging and other random cinemapraph stuff (that might not be the right word).

      It does 1080p at 60fps, 30fps and 24fps. For youtube, it's perfectly fine. Get a good sd card and record in xavc codec. First things first, watch that video i recommended. It will help you realize what the camera can do.

    #1 look like a pro then not an issue camera is nice small light and capable, try using the 500-1000g Nikons with same sensors... goodbye hands after couple hours, #2 has a menu option not an issue, #3 user error, #4 firmware updates exist when necessary the issue is users not installing them for me the issue is other cameras don't even come close to a6000 feature wise, #5 I agree the line up is very capable period but their pricing 6300/6500 is murdered, lens do exist but not all have stabilization, still there are many lenses available, the a7 FF does seem more "supported" by Sony. #1 complaint for me would be lack of in body stabilization for a6000, #2 not very intuitive menu but still 10 years better than Nikon DSLRs that cost thousands of USD/EUR, #3 apps are finally hacked for some two years but this should have been open from the start by Sony and the Sony apps free not paid, #4 the official Sony lenses selection could be bigger and better available, some lenses are nice but very expensive, #5 battery life and battery drain issues, #6 no 4k video and 60fps is only for NTSC with a startup pop up for non NTSC countries otherwise 50fps, no 120fps, overall video recording is lacking due to probably dated hardware where as 6500 has newer electronics with newer firmware to support better video formats. I couldn't stand the bulky crop factor cameras from Nikon and Canon has died innovation wise even sooner. I find the a6000 still best for APS-C with 1.5x crop and offers most features that 6300/6500 have for the original very attractive price that made a6000 such a good deal to begin with. With a6300/6500 Sony is milking money, tried all of them and the differences are cosmetic plus in body stabilization on 6500 I believe not sure 6300, you can look it up. Does a6000 need stabilization? Not to me, I don't have any with it as I don't even own the starter kit lens and went straight to Sigma lens. Stabilization can add artifacts on it's own but usually it is a plus to have it, sadly for that you gotta buy Sony/Zeiss lenses = expensive. Will watch your love video now.

It’s a shame that the form factor puts people off. But the same people have no problem with the same form factor with a red-dot (Leica). Even individuals in my camera club (who should know better) look down on the a6000 series. Go figure.

    Do you think it's worth the switch from a Canon t5i? I'm into the a6000 a lot mainly for the burst speed and MP increases, but I can't decide if I should make the leap to a full frame sensor. I'm not professional yet as I am still studying in college; so, possibly that might make the full frame aspect unnecessary at this point in my life. As far as mirrorless goes, it's either this or the Alpha a7 for me. There's just so many options out there lol

      Jillian J hi Jillian. If the 11fps is important to you, I would definitely suggest you get the a6000. It’s such a small investment, that there really is no downside. I would hold off on the full frame purchase for now. I don’t think the cost justifies it right now. It’s easy to get caught up on the gear lust...when I fact the cameras we use are better than the camera the masters of photography used in the past.

    I like the small form factor of the a6x00 cameras especially with a small prime lens. Less weight, less conspicuous, looks more modern/sleek and it doesn't make you look pretentious and snobby like dinosaur CaNikon owners. DSLRs are a eyesore to look around and it just screams "look at me, I bought the biggest dumbest looking block of camera just to compensate and impress my friends for my better lack of skill." Plus, it's a huge thief magnet dangling off your body like a piece of visible ripe fruit.

      019united hi. So what is it you are not satisfied with? I haven’t used the g7xm2 but I have used the Sony rx100, which is also an 1” sensor camera. The video you get is pretty good. The a6000 will give you video with less noise, but it doesn’t give you log profiles, and it’s till only 60fps max. Nice thing about the a6000 is you can put on different lenses to get different effects, but I there are other cameras with more features for videos. :)

    • @019united
      @019united 6 років тому

      Jeff Rendered i feel that the images on the canon are not as sharp as i want them to be. Which is why i am interested in this camera or the a6300, for the interchangeable lens. The A6000 is a bit more appealing at the moment with its current price i think if you are willing to sacrifice the 4k video which the A6300 shoots in.

    Sony knows the technology that they now have. They also know who is willing to spend the money on glass. Say it takes 30 hours to build a crop lens and the same 30 hours to build the full frame glass but the full frame is 12 times as expensive.....which do you think they’re going to make? It’s all about money. They know they’re killing Canon and Nikon. So, make a shit ton of money selling full frame and leave the crop scraps for Nikon and Canon. Then also, sell their mount set up to 3rd party lenses and make profit for doing nothing.

      Hi there, personally i own an a6300 and since you are focusing for photos i would suggest you to keep your 600D and invest on the lens. however if you are doing more videos then the swap will definitely be more worth it.

    • @jeffrendered3564
      @jeffrendered3564  6 років тому +1

      I would recommend you keep the Canon. Unless you absolutely need the 11fps burst rate, you won’t have much to gain as far as image quality goes. And since canon has more and cheaper lenses to choose from, it might be cheaper for you later on. I know it sounds weird from a guy who shoots on the a6000. But at the end of the day, if you are happy with the shots you are getting, there is no need to switch system.

I love cycling off road with my father and we come arcoss many great locations but i could never take my 600d along with me riding. I ordered a very small satchle style bag with the A6000 and now i can just throw it in there and on my back and its so light i barely notice it. The difference is, other commenters choose to be mature and offer helpful advise, you on the other hand, thought condescending remarks was the way to go. Sony a6000 or canon 200d for beginner. Thank you!

    • @jeffrendered3564
      @jeffrendered3564  6 років тому +1

      Hi. First, a disclaimer. I don’t own or have ever used the canon 200d. With that out of the way. It kind of depends on a lot of things. So I’ll list a few things that caught my attention.
      The 200d could be a great vlogging camera. It has a flip out screen and mic jack, which the a6000 doesn’t have.
      Canon has an amazing selection of lenses. And they are usually cheaper than Sony lenses.
      The 200d has laughably low number of af points...only 9. Where as the a6000 has something like 179. I do dance photography, where the dancers perform very athletic movements, so I prefer the a6000 in that regard.
      The initial cost for the a6000 is cheaper...but canon typically has more affordable lenses and more selection of lenses.
      I know this doesn’t directly answer your question, but hopefully it helps you in your decision making in choosing the right camera for you.

I'll go out on a limb and guess you don't have many friends and I know no woman would put up with an ignoramus like you. So, instead of spreading poison, work on your attitude, read and learn, then contribute to conversations with something of value. You'll find that people will no longer avoid you like the plague, instead they might initiate the start of a beautiful friendship and you might even find yourself a date. Nobody wants to surround themselves with an ignoramus like you, so until you make some changes, have fun staring at the wall...oh yeah, invest in an English class and tune-up your writing and grammar skills whilst doing so. You can begin with, how to properly use articles.

    #6: AVCHD is a drag. For best quality video on this camera you must shoot with AVCHD. This,thankfully, is solved with the a6300.
    Here's my results with the 6000: ua-cam.com/video/OerveCylkpw/v-deo.html

      Do you have an issue with shooting XAVC S on the a6000 ? Do you find it inferior to shooting AVCHD ?

      The only options for video on my a6000 are AVCHD and MP4. I cant' comment on XAVC but i've seen it on later Sony's.
      Now, here's my gripe with AVCHD: I work on a Mac and AVCHD requires me to preserve the entire file/folder structure to work properly. This is an extra step in my workflow that I would rather not deal with. However, the video sure looks great. Next stop: a6300! Cheers.

      You can shoot xavc with your a6000, at least my does...you just need the right Firmware update.

      I’ve seen the comparison video between the two codecs...and personally I don’t think it’s worth it. You will never be able to tell unless you pause the video and zoom in 200%. Even then, it’s still very subtle. It does take color grading a little better, but again, very small differences. To me it’s not worth it but if you do a lot of video, it might.

      There is a software update for the a6000 which adds XAVCS as an option. you should perhaps check to see if you have the latest software installed in your a6000 :-)
