Great video Adam. Selling bundles is a great side gig. I started my business 5 years ago and it keeps growing. Last year I sold 1400 bundles from one roadside stand. Yes one roadside stand. Looking to expand to a second one this summer!
There’s hard workers and there’s good business men . You are a good combo of both my friend. Marketing is half the battle and you’ve got that figured out. Good job and great video!
Thanks Dave! Part of being an accountant is not being able to turn off the numbers side of my brain haha. I’m always trying to think of ways to maximize return in investment
Hey Adam looks like you got it going on with the bundles. I like the one touch and done hope business continues to be good for you. I need to up my bundle game but I guess for now I’m content with a few bundles sitting by the road. Just too many other things to do with the garden and getting ready for canning etc. Take care brother
Thats a great business. Your setup pretty good Adam, i like that splitter. I've never seen that brand until I subscribed to your channel. Thats an awesome machine. Have a good weekend buddy.
@@HometownAcres I was selling ash exclusively a couple years ago because of the emerald ash borer. It was hard to get rid despite it being a good burning wood. I had a couple people tell me that it was not a hardwood. They make baseball bats out of it, so it must be pretty hard.
Right now all I been doing is mowing. My wife wanted some chickens so I been building a coop. However I'm gonna be out of commission for a couple weeks from what I hear. Just found out Friday I have a detached retina and having surgery on it tomorrow. Have no idea how it happened but I hear it's a fragile procedure that takes a long recuperation period.
Great video Adam and a real nice bundle firewood setup. I agree, the bundles are way easier and efficient not to mention a few more $$ in your pocket. Besides come fall once the bundle business slows you may find you have enough dry hardwood that you could sell a bit especially to those who’ve waited last minute and are desperate to get some “premium seasoned” hardwood. Have a great weekend.
Daniel Arms suggested we all pay you a visit. I need a wood splitter. 5 large felled firs,. Cut in rounds stacked but this old lady needs advice. Daniel brought you to my attention at the right time.
If you’re just going to be cutting and splitting for yourself I’d say any regular hydraulic splitter from Lowe’s or Home Depot would serve you well but if you really want to produce a good bit of wood then I would recommend getting a commercial unit. If you’re rounds are big and heavy you’re definitely going to want something with a log lift
Get a 32" bar for your saw with a "full house" pro chain... Your back will thank you! I run a minimum of 32" bars on ALL my saws, even my smaller ones. So much easier to buck logs not all hunched over. Awesome setup and side business you have going!
I'd be looking into a small trailer! Maybe even an atv trailer where you can load a bin in from the side and then close the side up. If doing lots of bins you'll need a flat deck. Alls I know is I wouldn't truck most forklift operators that close to my truck haha! Good luck. Great video
Great operation you have there. I remember Safeway used to sell 2 1/2 cu. ft. bundles and don't remember how much but I figured it was around $1000 a cord they were making Best way to sell your product. Good job. I like the totes. You can del. one and pick up the empty.
Very nice, always nice to be able to find an easy way to sell it around here last winter I was selling more facecords then anything now everyone wants full cords to stock up for winter thank god for the dump trailer stay cool don’t know about were you are but here in Ontario it’s been 30-35 C for the past week makes production hard.
Great video, time for you to buy a 3/4 ton Ram with a Cummings diesel 😎 I appreciate all the hard work that must go into making these video’s. Thank you!
Nice operation, I see the only thing missing on your assembly line is the same thing missing on mine - more hands...hahahahaha. That box wedge spits out perfect bundle wood and those totes do make a nice display. 👍
Love it! Great setup. I've been selling bundles on the honor system here in southern Maine, just a simple little covered wood shed at the end of the driveway with a lock box. I recently bought a bagging tray and started bagging firewood into mesh bags designed to hold corn, my sales nearly doubled when I switched. Sold almost 300 bundles 4th of July weekend to campers driving by, insane! Just wanted to throw that out there, the bagging tray makes bagging firewood super fast and easy
@@HometownAcres no not really to be honest, I sell each bundle for $5. There was one time someone bought 5 bundles and left $23, but it's all good. I try and empty the box every couple hours if possible too
I use the ibc frames also and find that slitted foam pipe insulation goes over the cut edges on the tote and protects from cuts and scrapes. I hold the insulation in place with zip ties.
Watched a lot of your videos recently, as an arborist and firewood business owner, I find them very interesting and I have just bought a hookaroon on your viewer's recommendation! My only concern is that you are selling a very sustainable product then wrapping it in single-use plastic. Have you looked into any natural forms of wrapping? For example, paper or string. I understand that you have found your niche and are selling in small amounts to increase profit margin. Do you get clients who push you to sell them bigger amounts? Again, good work on the business and all the videos. Keep it up!
What a drastic change, understandable tho. When you get it dialed in and consistend and then still have too much time on your hands the cord wood can keep you busy! ;)
Hi Adam, here in the UK bundled wood is purchased in sealed heavy duty plastic bags, they have handles modded in and the wood is c.12 inches and sells for £7.99 including purchase tax (VAT @20%)
What size Husqvarna are you using? I'm a Husqvarna guy myself, I have a 550xp with a 20" bar and a 460 rancher with a 24" bar. I mostly use the 550xp, best saw I have ever ran, lots of power for such a small saw. I might be looking into doing firewood as a side gig in the near future and like you said it seems like bundle wood is the way to go. Good luck bud
Once again great video. I love the operation you have, and may want to mirror your model. Here in SoCal and there is a market for bundled wood. I’m also gonna start a channel to get feedback from the community to help me become more effective in the process. Stay tuned.
This arctic blast has a lot of people "just wanting a little bit of firewood to get us by a few days". I'm thinking I need to bundle up a lot of my own personal firewood and start selling it.
Always good videos. So if the wood sells for $5.99 is that your price or the Markets price and what do they pay you if u dont mind me asking. Im in NC and run a small business and im looking to expand a little.
Thanks man. Having the log lift on the Eastonmade really helps with the big rounds. Most people wouldn’t bother with them because they are too heavy but they are my favorite with this splitter because they usually have the best wood in them
That Eastonmade make quick work of the big rounds. My TSC splitter takes a lot more manual labor getting them up, rolling them, plus assist from tractor loader. What saw is that?
Just have a John Deere D140. 48” deck. That’s a pretty steep hill or else I’d like to get a good zero turn. Thinking about maybe upgrading to a 4 wheel drive riding mower with a 54-60” deck
Great videos Adam! I'm thinking about starting a small bundle wood operation. Will all the storm damage and standing dead ash trees i could never burn it all in my fire pit! What is a fair retail price in your opinion? Thanks for the awesome videos!
Hey man. Nice setup. What kinda chaps are those? A logger buddy of mine said to go with the Husqy ones with codura on the outside. Curious if that’s what those are.
Don’t be cheap buy the good ones. Stihl chain saw chaps, they are full rap-around chaps. Beware of Chinese knock offs. Good PPE is your friend, you will pay less using good equipment than your co-pay to go to the emergency room . I had a event this spring where one of my saws was being stubborn on restart. With the brake on during startup it came off of my tailgate in odd way and got my leg. The good PPE stopped it, the decompression release was on, but it it kicked back knocking the saw off of the tailgate. It must have hit the chain-brake on way down and with the engine set for high idle and it got me. This whole event took maybe 7-10 seconds, now I have had to do this style startup only a few times. 98% of the time the 372XP I can get running on the ground with my foot in the handle and a hand on the handle on a hot restart. This thing had to be vapor locked , it had not started on the first pull as always. Long and the short those Stihl chaps saved the day. This is not something I am proud of, my last event was 40 years ago I had no chaps at the time. I only lost a pair of jeans and my pride, just a small cut and just deep enough to draw blood. My Dad was horrified when he saw the saw kick back. The moral of the story is spend the money on good PPE, it’s a better friend than your Dog. Don’t buy the Chinese PPE!
Bonza little operation you've got going there Adam. In a few years you can increase production when your little nipper gets bigger. Is that a new bigger chainsaw you've got?
Thanks Fred. I may still sell to people who come here and pick it up. I just don’t want to deliver wood to homes anymore. As you’ve seen I have to stack it in the truck and then toss it out of the truck... all by hand. Selling bundles to stores is a lot less manual
I would like to know when you do the comparison if you go up against a non EPA 372xp or the newer EPA saw. You will find the EPA version has a blue choke leaver and the decompression release is on the top of the saw. I have both saws and there’s a difference in where they perform. The firewood bins are a game changer!
Adam, out of the $5.99 bundles they sell what’s the wholesale price you charge per bundle? Just curious I want to do the same in my neck of the woods and just curious what the price structure is.
Hometown Acres sounds like a good split for you and them. They have the sales area and staffing charges and you make the money on your own time. I use the red firewood bags but I have the ibc totes I may load in the truck and deliver this way as well. I think my area might get more money per bag. Lowe’s sells bags at $7.99 per bag here in CT.
How do you find the Easton made splitter ? I think they are a beautifully made machine but seem underpowered . Maybe a bigger engine . I’d have one in a heartbeat though
If you don’t think the 12-22 is big enough they make a 22-28 that i think is a 37 ton. I think you could put a block of wood in there sideways and it would cross cut the grain.
Nice to hear Adam, it looks so much more professional with a better packaging and display. Packing and putting the IBC like that saves the seller time relocating it in the shop, which is time and money saved for them also. Hope everythings good. /Finn, Norwegian fellow firewood enthusiast
Just starting my bundling business this spring. Only thing I needed was a log splitter and bought a Generac 10 ton kinetic splitter to start off. I have 3 seasoned cords to start with so this little splitter is going to rip right through these pieces. I also have a twist, a couple years ago we were getting into more tree work so we bought a 6" Vameer chipper and basically never used it so my thought was to put it too use and chip up 6" and under branches and sell wood chips for smoking. Nice thing about the chips is I can sell them right away, no drying time.
Ask them if they’ve ever considered selling firewood. Tell them how much I would charge them and how much they could sell it for and tell them they can make so many dollars per bundle with no extra effort on their part
Hometown Acres did you create a contract to make sure you get paid or is it just off their word ? And also did you need some type of license or permit ?
No they pay me up front for it. It is their wood as soon as I leave. If they sell it for $5 or $100 /bundle it doesn’t affect me at all. I have already been paid
If I’m bundling straight from the splitter it’s always ash as it’s usually dead and already seasoned. If I’m bundling from my wood piles that have been split and stacked for a year it’s a mix of maple, cherry and oak
Absolutely. For most it’s just a convenience thing. They might only burn a couple fires a year and it’s not worth it to them to have a chainsaw and worry about mixing 2 cycle oil or having gas go bad.
Maybe too messy for retail sales locations but direct/end user customers usually appreciate the smaller splits mixed in with their bundles as you are not just selling them firewood but "selling the experience", the smaller pieces make starting and stoking the fire very easy. Good experience usually begets return customers. ALSO I keep a mound of the splits for my own use during heating season. Filling a 5-gallon bucket every time I bring wood in makes stoking the wood stove a breeze.
Thank you sharing, give good ideas on how to sell bundles of firewood. Continued Success.

How come you didn't let that firewood dry before you bundled it? Selling wet wood? Don't understand!
3 bucks a bundle? 3 totes is usually a cord so 96 bundles at 3 bucks = 288 not sure if this is the way I would go... correct me if I thinking wrong...
$4
@@HometownAcres now that's the ticket that extra dollar means alot!!! Keep up the great work love the channel!!
I've been subscribed for a while, and I notice that you usually wear sneakers and not steel toed boots. Why not?
I should, sometimes if I’m just splitting for a half hour or so I get lazy and just throw on an old pair of sneakers
if you don't have a tractor to load and unload how can you load and unload a used forklift?
You could put the Firewood basket in the truck empty and then stack the bundles in it once it’s in the truck.
Do bundles need to be kiln dried to be sold
Legally?
If you sell them across stare lines they have to be kiln dried
Do you charge for IBC crates?
How much weight is that lift rated for
👍👍👍👍👍
How much is the wholesale cost?
I sell it for $4/bundle.
@@HometownAcres Did a quick calculation and I was going to guess $ 3.90 per lol
I've seen locals selling bundles for $ 10 dollars per.
Yep. Convenience stores here want $8 for bundles of 6 medium sized logs.
Do you get logs from your property?
Some of them yes. Some we get from a tree service
@@HometownAcres free from tree service, or paid logger?
And the Therblig’s?
how much do you get for each bundle?
Sounds great however you need to keep your options open for the winter
Is firewood your primary income?
It is not
what kind of wood is that
This was ash
that must be a goldmine
Ok i seen another comment and u replied $4 on that thanks.
In this case the more knuckle heads there are the better the business!
Absolutely. For most it’s just a convenience thing. They might only burn a couple fires a year and it’s not worth it to them to have a chainsaw and worry about mixing 2 cycle oil or having gas go bad.
Looks like hackberry in this video.
🔥👍🤠
That splitter makes A lot of WASTE WOOD & that makes for more hand work & splinter clean up ,& I’m assuming your bundles are .75 cf
Makes nice kindling though
Maybe too messy for retail sales locations but direct/end user customers usually appreciate the smaller splits mixed in with their bundles as you are not just selling them firewood but "selling the experience", the smaller pieces make starting and stoking the fire very easy. Good experience usually begets return customers.
ALSO
I keep a mound of the splits for my own use during heating season. Filling a 5-gallon bucket every time I bring wood in makes stoking the wood stove a breeze.
They are 1.25 cubic foot bundles
