ya, that's why anderson silva, a TKD blackbelt, is a UFC champion, and cung le, another TKD blackbelt, was a Strikeforce champion. most martial artist who's main background is grappling will always make your point. it's all about how you disguise kicks and set up kicks. here's one, most fighters who are mainly grapplers risk getting knocked to fuck out early in fights especially if their opponent has good takedown defense.
:) Trained at University of Western Ontario with Ray Takahashi. Did quite a bit of my own street fighting ;) My point is you simply weren't fighting people that would be of equivalent calibre. Tae Kwon Doe gets guys in amazing shape and sharpens response times immensely but they simply cannot fair against an equivalent opponent who is a wrestler/grappler/jiujitsu. I keep my distance until you kick, grab the leg and you are down. I gaurantee it.
I think the TKD guy is Jurasz...is that how its spelt? He's Polish. Polish ITF is very forward thinking and a model for the future of ITF worldwide. No I'm not Polish. To Be honest guys N gals, we all have a favourite style...i loved doing TKD, the kicking techniques ARE awesome, its what YOU do with them that count. There is a lot to learn from other styles and the Polish aren't afraid to test it out.
of course, i agree. mma requires some grappling knowledge to be successful. cung le has wrestling and some BJJ as well. regarding the guy talking about self defense. striking arts are probably the best. i'm a TKD guy, but i do know how it can be ineffective in this way. you must change it to low kicks and punches. use more the timing, distancing, and movement than the flashiness, but that can be true for any style. grappling can be good defense, but only in 1v1 combat.
I don't care for "sport" fighting. Most grappling in sport is not practical in street since there are no rules in the street. My base is tkd.Had many street fights, some with multiple opponents and never lost. I was never taken down and defended or avoided every shoot. I have grab and grappling training, but minimal just in case. I also strike, throat, neck, knee caps, groin, etc.If I were caught in a hold, I would bite, attack the groin, gouge, head butt, rip ears, etc. I respect fighter first.
I assumed the guy in black shorts was ITF TKD because generally I would assume if you're relying on TKD, it's only natural to back up and try and wait for a good moment to kick. It's always been my problem in my TKD class when sparring, I guess I'm back off too much but what can I do if my opponent doesn't back up when I move forward.
@GuamKomudo that cool but dont think it was very effective to be graving or clinching on to a person in war. I mean there are no rules so blows to vital organs are allowed such as throat, groin, eyes and so on. You have multiple unites, unites with thick plated armor like the samurai which made it a bit hard for them to move or metal and leather armor like the legion.
@ganitywaltz hands are weapons that can also be used for blocks. trust me when i say a punch to the face is way more effect than a kick. a kick may knock them out more often that not, but they also barely ever land if the opponent is actualy gaurding himself. I do TKD as well but i am niether WTF nor ITF. i take an american version.
@urbanassassin26 I don't think you mean effective cause a kick would be more effective as it had more power but certainly punches are easier to throw and are more practical on a guarding opponent. Either way it just depends on your style and your timing. I also come from a hybrid tkd school but we are moreso influenced by wtf I believe
TKD is the definition of a martial art, it is used by the korean military in hand to hand combat, that is what "martial" art means. You my friend know little about tkd, ITF and ITF style TKD consistantaly proves itself against all other types of fighting.
i always hear the same thing "wtf tkd is a watered down version of itf tae kwon do" and "wtf isnt realistic,no punches, self defense, throws, ect" for each rank,we were required to learn many throws, grappling, throws, flips, ect. and many punches. in tournements there are punches allowed, just not for points.a kick is so much stronger than a punch, and it is used to gain distance in my opinion and hands are for blocking. both forms are great.if anyone puts the other form down, its very wrong.
man that sux tkd would actually have a good name if it werent for the WTF crap and light contact BS that u see today and same goes for kung fu and karate. the worst part is theyre actually good styles too.
@GuamKomudo I agree still samurai lack In fighting foreign enemies. Anyways what is the point of grabing someone when they can hit you in the groin or press your eyeballs in? Im not a expert in Samurai but I do know my history and the Samurai got own by the Koreans.
actully itf is the future and pass itf was origanlly tkd untill wtf branched of and made a sport of tkd while itf kept back the morals and actually fighting stlyes
Também, botam um Perebão VS um cara mais treinado, quer o que?! É a mesma coisa se botar o vencedor dessa luta VS Anderson Silva. É desigual da mesma maneira.
facing42, sorry man, you're wrong, some of the fighters I beat were grapplers. one even came at me with a steel pipe since he wasn't able to take me down. he was frustraded, went to his car and pulled out a pipe. I threw him down with a judo throw and punched his face. I let him get up and he charged at me, I threw a side kick to his gut, he bent over, I grabbed his head, knee to his face. I broke his nose and jaw. street and cage fighting are completely different scenarios, wake up dude
ITF is so much better all-around. Put in some good grappling skills and you've got game. Have you ever seen a WTF olympic athlete go up against an MMA fighter or kickboxer? It's lol-tastic.
WTF which is what I am part of (which is in korea) teaches Hap Ki do which is the korean version of grappling.. they incorporate it into tae kwon do. Hap ki do in basic terms tho is self defense.
not lucky, if you watch any TKD fighter they always back up when someone comes at them because they are used to mainly just dodging kicks because TKD is all about point sparring and not finishing fights
@willhum what are you talking about? its the same rules as in m1. no 1 gives a shit about what would happen if they went to the ufc. this is just a 2 min clip from like 2 years ago that you've seen and you are saying that this is not mma coz you didn't see any grapplig for the 2 min. damn :0
do you honestly think that you would even have a slight chance against a good BJJ fighter with the grappling they teach you in a TKD dojo? yeah right kid.
@Rannik45715 What really limits your moves are rules, competitive rules. Martial Arts weren't meant to be sports. In a competition you can't eye-gauge, throat-thrust, wrist-lock or perform any other Martial Arts feat, because it is deemed too dangerous. So saying TKD is a dance seems like a very misinformed comment. The techniques are there for you to use, it depends on which ones you want to use and on how effectively you can pull them off. cheers
also grappling with someone larger than you isn't something i would recommend. i know the examples of gracie beating people bigger than him, but i just don't like the risk of being held by someone bigger and stronger. i think this bottle guy is full of shit too. anyone who claims tons of streetfights normally are. in almost all cases, its not the style that makes good fighters and effectiveness, its how it is used.
lol... probably because your fighting guys who have no type of martial arts background. Anyone with any level of martial arts backgroun especially in wrestling judo or jiu jitsu could take down a tae kwon do quivalent in no time. As soon as you lift your leg for a kick you are on the ground.
@willhum you're talking as if mma was just takedowns, gnp and submissions. let me remind you MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) if some one throws a kick (any) that is an MMA skill same for everthing they did
@hazard2000 lol maby but why wretler a wretler im smart id hit u my grppling is to help if i do get taken to the floor and i learn alot of the stuff tought in jj schools becuase bjj is just a bralian version of a japanese fighting style and yes i go to a good school that teach good things agasint an avreage bjj fighter yes i probly good win againt some one like gracie well i consider it a win if i dont get hurt and dont knock itf tkd Kid

I agree with you concerning Anderson Silva. He is Muay thai and TKD though and he has black belt in jiu jitsu.

Ya absolutely agree with you on that.

@bOnGNoP ITF practices with the hands too... That's why he can do stand up in mma or in muay thai matches.

@willhum this is on mma rules, its KSW which is an mma organizatio, the guy in blue is a tkd guy ive seen him fight a few times, i just know its mma
@ganitywaltz hands are weapons that can also be used for blocks. trust me when i say a punch to the face is way more effect than a kick. a kick may knock them out more often that not, but they also barely ever land if the opponent is actualy gaurding himself.
I do TKD as well but i am niether WTF nor ITF. i take an american version.
personally ITF is the future of TKD i believe, i WTF just isnt realistic enough.
very true
itf at least my schhol does teach grappling not asmuch as striking but graplling and slef defence is covered in the self defence clases
the guy in the blue trunks was TKD, the other was MMA
@urbanassassin26 I don't think you mean effective cause a kick would be more effective as it had more power but certainly punches are easier to throw and are more practical on a guarding opponent. ive never been hit going in for a takedown against a TKD fighter and ive sparred alot of them
OMG the guy who s beaten is Crocop in his early days.
@GuamKomudo dude the samurai and romans had swords.
man that sux tkd would actually have a good name if it werent for the WTF crap and light contact BS that u see today and same goes for kung fu and karate. the worst part is theyre actually good styles too.
