Hi- I've really been enjoying your videos. I was thinking of adding a SW autofocuser to my set up (I have the same SCT SW / OVL Crayford focuser as yours -) It looks like you have some sort of wedge attached to the underside of the focuser to attach the autofocuser- do you have any tips on how thats done or even a video showing how its attached? Many thanks and keep up the good work! Geoff.
Just been browsing through a book purchased in my youth Outer space photography for the amateur. by Dr. Henry E. Paul... It's astonishing just how the hobby has moved forwards... Equipment wise... Mind you having said that... Still some excellent photography using very basic equipment.
You’re right. The advent of digital imaging, computing and cheaper manufacture have changed astronomy - and indeed society around the world - in the last few decades.
Hoodie👍👍👍 Focus peg👏. My dream tip (have not yet found an answer) would be something effective to direct breath away from the eyepiece. Nothing seems to work and I'm fed up going blue holding my breath! Kenny from South Park might be the way to go.
Thought I'd be smart and use a buff to solve the same issue on a cold night, but it ended up being ten times worse since most of the air escaped up towards the eyepiece - not sure how a medical facemask would compare though.
Mark do you think that insulting the scope works. I am just about to do mine but have watched videos saying that it's a complete waste of time and effort. What is your honest opinion?
Well I wouldn’t insult my telescope, it’s delicate and I wouldn’t want to cause offence. Insulating it on the other hand has, in my experience, made a difference by reducing tube currents (and helps a bit with retaining warmth for dew control). My thinking is that it costs pennies and doesn’t weigh anything so no dramas. Of course I’ll need a second C11 alongside to quantify the difference but that was rejected by the household finance director.
Screen is on minimal brightness, Fred, with red screen and, when I have stopped using it, I put it out of sight. Certainly no worse than using a dim red flashlight or the traditional handset.
Hi John - I have found Tim Duke at Dew Control very good, and a nice person to deal with. If you watch the Kelling video, he has a trade stand and I bought a new controller and heater for my travel set up (so I can leave my old stuff permanently mounted in the observatory). ua-cam.com/video/adJu-eYPwPs/v-deo.html

I haven’t I’m afraid Geoff. I designed a simple bracket and printed it on my 3D printer. This is version 2 if I recall correctly.
Cheers for the push in the right direction.
Glad you enjoyed it. I'll update this video one day and give some fresh ideas.
Excellent explanation. Thanks🙂
Glad it was helpful!

Like the idea with the small clamp on focus wheel.
So simple isn’t it? Saves a fortune on fine focuser adaptors.

A snorkel or a gimp mask :-) ??
I normally have my dew heaters on my eps so I can pass on the mask!!

Probably had great info, make sure you watch this in a completely silent environment or make sure you have surround sound or large speakers
Thanks for the feedback John. I have since bought a new microphone so I hope the video is improving.

Brilliant idea with the clamp-where would i find one like that?
I got mine from our local B&Q hardware store in Salisbury. Anywhere like that will sell them for clamping glue joints.
How do you prevent destroying night vision while looking at your phone to control the motor mount.

@@RefreshingViews I actually found a setting in the iPhone to tint the screen red.
Great video, but I have a refractor. Can you do a part two?
Great idea, I now have a good excuse to go and get a refractor!
Astronomy chair, yes?
Ah yes that’s a good point.
What electronic dew heater, have you found most suitable. ?
