My brother is is at Entebbe lakeside nursing schizophrenia and I agree with Joseph,it is the most debilitating situation anyone can experience in Life.he can't feed himself as I text and it's very scary.
This time its 1000times more intense because he Lost his job. The good thing is that he accepts that he's I'll and takes his medication. As a family, we believe In the God of psalms 103.3.

My Heart Goes to Joseph and the sons, but he's not alone in the boat, me too i lost my dearest husband a (man of my youth)in 2014 sep in accident, i was 24yrs and he left me with 3 girls aged 4yrs 2 yrs and 3 months...But we'll thank our Almighty Father in Heaven and our spiritual parents/church for being there for me. Now am planning to get married again in Jesus's Name Amen 🙏🏼❤

Clearly this man went through alot. While he spoke i saw so many of my relatives in this picture now i understand most had mental issues especially the extreme hallucinations and outburst. Unfortunately people think this is normal yet its not.
Thank you for this segment. Loss is a terrible thing, pain is pain, you people. I used to think I was strong and it will go away but oh Lord, it will come back, you can not suppress it forever. I lost my mum at 11 years, suppressed it, and was just too busy to deal with it. Lost my best friend right before the pandemic and let us say God carried me through. I have had all these things before I ever knew what they were, sweating feet and palms and being extremely anxious like off the edge scared for every and overthinking things like my family getting old and dying imagine, hyperventilating, having panic attacks, etc. I wish people would exercise daily, eat well daily and go to therapy even without major issues, like just having a better lifestyle. It helps in the long run. Being rooted in God and also staying off drugs and alcohol or anything that alters the brain chemicals. God healed me, therapy helped as well, and I am better now.
How are you handling now?

@@manuelap.mulondo I took an initiative to get off steroids (was on treatment for a chronic illness since childhood) that causes many of those issues. I opted for holistic treatment. Got out of isolation after 2 years of Covid. I am surrounded by people now. I think one thing can not fix it all (God can fix it all because I am a believer but He needs something from me to work with). It is a couple of things for me. I had to form a support system really. Family can only do so much and they are not always well equipped. God, nutrition, counseling, physiotherapy, walking especially when the sun is out, supplements, a lot of love, rest, reading specific content, etc I am doing much better really. Thank you

Thank you for this episode. My daughter who is about 5yrs old just lost her best friend last week. I feel so sad for her but she seems to understand the whole concept of death at her age. She was actually the one comforting us and telling us to stop crying while in the church service. May her friend's soul rest in peace.

Thanks so much for this conversation. As a person who has gone through mental disorders without proper guidance or help . I know the pain and confusion , that one is going through , you can explain it to any body . On a daily you have boad meetings in your head . Its like you have people leaving with you inside your brain . You are a happy soul around so many people but when you are alone , you are in pain . I can go on and on but thanks alot

My prayers to you Joseph and your family, only God will surely uphold you through the overwhelming pain and storms. I was doing my postgraduate Research in Psychosocial Rehabilitation: psychoeducation for families of patients with Schizophrenia when I found your video. I had never understood the extreme of Schizophrenia until then even though I worked with client with mental illnesses. I have suffered from depression, anxiety and panic attacks. We all need to support one another as mental anyone by promoting awareness and destigmatisation with empathy. God bless you for sharing
Seeing your dear one go through tough times is heartbreaking. Story not different from our own.
Lost my follower, Dropia Consolate Samanya (RIP) last year October 11th. Had several complications; bipolar disorder, PCOS, had started developing fats on her kidneys. I still cry, smile every morning as I pass her grave while going for work, think about her and regain hope and faith. We choose to celebrate her as a family.
She started having episodes of bipolar in 2012 and diagnosis was in 2020 during COVID-19 lockdown that triggered another episode but from day one, Butabika was our hospital. We chose to love her, care for her and look out for any symptoms before any episodes.
Unfortunately, most of us don't understand and still disagree about the various concepts on mental health. Still, some people are so insensitive when you loose your own. Comments like; you no longer pray, why didn't you take her to so and so, why did you take long to rush her to the hospital, I wish she had given birth to a child so that she leaves a memory 🙄🙄. Just keep quiet when you sit next to a person who is grieving. But friends, neighbors OGs and OBs did a great send off of my dear sis🙏🏽🙏🏽.

I lost a friend to bipolar..we were so ignorant about it.. people begun to judge him when he begun to react using drugs and Alcohol having come from a Christian background ..
we lost him after a short illness and that's when we learned about bipolar..
UpTo now not many people know about mental illness the way you have explained it😢..

Having lost one of my twin daughter.. I can relate coz the support system is always a backbone... Despite my challenges during pregnancy en at 6months knowing that one twin wouldn't make it after delivery. My family, friends, and workmates would always tell me to live one day at a time till I gave birth. By God's grace I pulled thru' though life has never been the same

We really need more doctors who understand mental health. It's so real especially after birth for women. Mental Therapy after birth should be complusory as antinetal. We go through a lot as women and the stress is just so much. But if we haven't yet reached there, prayer, uplifting music and God's word can help overcome. But truly our gyns should have phycytrist close

Mental disorders are so common in our societies and very few families are willing to submit. Praying for you to completely heal. Jesus. @Bump Love, loved the show and handling the sensitive topic. However, we didn’t get a chance to have Joseph to introduce himself elaborately at the beginning so that we know more about him and his partner before all this happened. That said… fabulous job. We need more of these.

It's refreshing to hear them share.
Very sad but to make matters worse is that society will see this as a traditional war(ebyekiika) and as a spiritual warfare for the religious...by the time the few families in most cases get to know that mental health is the issue..it's usually a bit late...God bless this man for even speaking about his own story because our society is still oblivious about these things...

What a very educative episode. Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia are very familiar conditions. One of my parents has had that since we were kids and boy or boy!
I had chills the whole time. So sorry for your loss
I have a friend with Schizophrenia,she accepted she has it and she is on treatment. She gets an injection once a month. Here in Canada, mental health treatments are advanced. She also takes supplements to help her immune system. One thing I can tell you is that she is doing very well. She works from home because she knows the office stress and politics will affect her mentally. She is self-aware. She focuses on eating healthy and enjoying things she loves to do, like blogging. In fact, she is now the biggest Afican blogger in our city here. She blogs about African fashion. I am proud of her and make sure to always tell her how good she is at what she does.

The conversation and subsequently treatments surrounding Mental Health has taken some strides in Uganda/Africa but we still have A LOOOOOOONNNNGGGGG way to go. We truly must be more aware and do better. P

Moving on and delving into this interview, you are quite focused on preaching about mental illness[ which is a good thing btw], than actually answering precisely how that has impacted you and the boys.
You are quite articulate in saying so much while evading all the direct questions from the ladies.
Honestly there is lots of gaps in how you are relaying your wife's experiences.
One thing in another forum where I've heard to speak on this, you saw the supposed 'red flags', during your courtship time.
There must have been triggers that might have triggered her to a worse state.
I want to say so much but let's let her soul rest.
I think we should be able to appreciate the fact that this is more an emotional journey than anything. Doing the balancing act of creating awareness while respecting your wife and children is no easy task.

That said - The man is grieving. If you noticed, he even lost his train of thought at certain points in the conversation. Why? Because he is a HUMAN BEING who lost his beloved wife. The mother of his 3 children ❤.

Schizophrenia is the worst i saw my mum going through the worst days of her life because of it. Only God has kept her until now its been 17years of her struggling with it. Me i am confident God heals all diseases🙏🙏 My mum is not on medication but she is living much better than before.

The other problem with schizophrenia is that the victim/patient is that they r usually very intelligent so getting them to see a professional is a tag of war

The thing about mental health is that it's ignored because it's in the mind. It's not physical, but it can turn into physical when it's not treated. I wish Uganda could hold more and more educative sessions in every community, school, local center, hospitals etc, etc, just like how they teach about HIV and contraceptives.

What is common to one man might not be common to another...... This show is focused on mental health and what someone can do when faced with a death of a loved one in the face of a mental illness. Death in the face of poverty is another show altogether.
In 2019 march immediately after giving birth to my child, my husband travelled back to his country to work after 3 years of not travelling after a brain surgery.
I asked him to please not go but he insisted on going.
Covid hit and he couldn't travel back.
We used to talk on a daily basis.
Then this 31st December 2020, he wasn't picking, got scared, I called his lawyer and she went to his house only to find him dead in his bathroom.
My world broke, here I am, with a new born and 2 others, food became my friend, I got confused, cried most of the time.
But God has been good.
It will be his birthday on 18th May, and I don't think this pain heals.
Some days are really hard but God gives me grace.
I'm sorry for your loss. May God bring you to a place of complete healing
Hy bumplove thanks for the show I love you all . Today's topic touched me like am in that situation wea I need to undstand whether getting irritated and getting angry so first is also mental illness. Like foristance am a kadama I have worked for morethan 2 yrs oh yes I know what to do coz am quick learner so there comes my boss who wana tell mi wat to do everyday am like ok I keep it cul, we are 3 maids in the house 2 without experience and mi with exp so wat these people do is I feel they use me as a gateway weaby if they need something quick they call mi, something to be done quick, they call me so I reached to the extent of getting tired and by not being in place wea they should call mi anytime they want, so hea is the thing I tried to change an attitude wea I speak less, active less,then they pictured mi as a bad person Another thing is wen I get angry I do respond cos if I don't I feel my heart, and head gona burst, so am poring myself out to know exactly wat cud be this feeling thank you so much

Helo bump love am relating to this story, i just lost my best friend who was also my neighbour she collapsed in the birth room due to blood clot which was triggered by high blood pressure that was triggered by stress, we buried her on 31/dec/2022. by 2nd Jan 2023 the husband was reporting to work after his boss had denied him leave , the man kept breaking down while at work until a2 weeks after when he decided to resign because the boss was stressing and remind him every day that there are so many people who would want to take up his job , this guy is now jobless he only goes out of the house when he going to look for jobs after he goes inside and closes himself inside , the guys is losing weight on daily basis every time you see he looks different he moves while holding his trousers coz they can't fit him anymore, am scared we might lose another soul to stress very soon ,am sure him getting someone professional like that Gentle man to talk to will help and also he is a driver anyone with a job can also him so that he keeps his mind occupied .. i will be waiting for the response from bump love and everyone thanks..
