The answer is YES! Love it. Logseq takes the best parts of Roam (outlining, backlinks, etc.) and fixes its worst parts (privacy/security, portability).
@@ShuOmi_Official Of course man! I made the convert from Roam a few months ago. Hit me up in the Discord if you have any questions (I'm Bailey Jennings#8107)! Happy to help.
I'm one of those who moved from Roam to Logseq, especially for privacy and other reasons. I use it in conjunction with Obsidian. I will watch the video again, later, as you mentioned a few things that I hadn't discovered yet, so ta for that! :-)
Hadn't heard of Logseq yet. Great review! I'm not leaving Roam yet, but I do regularly dream of a successor. I am very excited to see these tools grow over the coming years.
I'm now 'roaming' (Haha, see what I did there?!? :D ) around this channel for 2 days and my brain feels like filled with new-year rockets! :O So many new Ideas! Love It!
Hey Shu, I have recently stumbled on your channel, and the quality of content you deliver is just amazing. It gives me hope. Would request you to kindly keep sharing what you learn. Waiting eagerly for your next videos. Thanks again, Shu.
Nice overview! Roam needs to figure out security/local, it's absurd watching all these other apps get it right or at least close. So much Roam content online in the last few months is of the "how I switched to XXX" variety. Maybe that's natural, but it's happened too fast.
I am doing the same. Been watching both Athens and Logseq waiting to pounce on one. Athens to me is super smooth and fast but missing some key features. Athens does not have spell check yet... and referanced notes from daily journal page are not in order by date all the time. Cant wait for these issues to be addressed.
I would say the main difference is block referencing. Logseq is simply better at that feature. If you are a heavy user of that then Logseq is better. Obsidian has hundreds of plugins and therefore is more universal, can do more things and be more customizable
I know that Obsidian also has an outliner plug-in but I don’t use it. Anyway, thank you for the clarification @raphmvids and @Aezon. Really appreciate it :)
@@AlIbrahim Yes, Obsidian has one, but logseq is still way more powerful. Actually every bloglevel is interpreted and loaded into a graph database. This is the reason why logseq is "slower", but it makes linking of structured text way more powerful.
@@raphmvids But at big number of notes (like, 11000 in my case) it becomes really slow :(( It takes long time to start (but works mostly ok after that).
Hi. I have a question. I remember watching a video about roam / something similar (I believe its roam) and the person talks about the value about money and links it to other quotes. Did you make something like that?
If you regularly use vscode (programming, typing, etc), note that there are multiple zettelkasten extensions: foam.foam-vscode nergal-perm.zettelkasten kortina.vscode-markdown-notes svsool.markdown-memo Among a ton others, but these are the most popular ones. It's nice being able to version control your notes :)
Love Logseq but the search function is horrible..I did a trial with roam and I was so impressed with how deep the search was ..and it was searching imported files from Logseq..that Logseq would not bring up
Thanks for watching everyone! Try Logseq from here: logseq.com/ I’m wondering if I should switch to Logseq now because I don’t do much collaboration with other people🤔 Well, let me know what you guys think about Logseq! UPDATE: Also, now block reference is replaceable with text or embed 🤟🤟
Want to correct one point I t he video. Logseq actually does have a document view, its just less intuitive to activate. Here how to use it: Click any empty space to unfocus your cursor. Than press t+d on keyboard. Thats it! Check docs on logseq 2.3 release for more details.
Logseq is attractive - until it an update breaks one of your notes. It supports two types of markdown, and for me randomly flipped a rather long, detailed note to the other type of markdown. Essentially making that note unusable. For me, that was a deal-breaker and I stopped using it.
actually it was one big and very important update (Canary release) which changed the old markdown file format which used headings instead of lists (as in orgmode) to the normal - for lists. It showed a big warning massage to backup your notes first and you had to convert them by clicking a button under the note. For me the conversion went flawlessly for ~200 notes.
In my experience Logseq used to have this kind of problems early in beta and you had to constantly back up your notes. But since the new Canary release it became much more stable and faster and I haven't experienced any problems since then

You summed it up really succintly, great to watch 🙂
Man keep this kind of content, you are becoming a relevant curator of productivity apps 👌!
You can initiate Document mode in Logseq by hitting 'td' on your keyboard outside of the input mode (so hit esc before).
Oooh I didn’t know! Thank you Bailey!!

Logseq vs obsidian, which one do you think is better?
Yes
And the developers and community are awesome
Also switched from Roam to Logseq: free, stable, secure and private.
Access anywhere is important for many and when you want to get to your notes from work and home systems.
Hey shu u quality of videos has increased so much!! This was awesome… everything on point 👏 👏 ❤️ from roamcult

I can't figure out the PDF highlighting feature, much less reference blocks in the PDF. Just me? Have other viewers had any issues with that?
It works only in desktop version, not in web one. Download it, it works great )

Roam does have desktop mode now. I use it alot.
Do you prefer Logseq over Obsidian?
Hey Shu! Thx for making this video, would you mind sharing your css theme for roam pls? :)
Thanks for creating this delicious content
Unfortunately it doesn't support ordered list and most importantly, the ability to link unlinked references.
Are you certain about unlinked references?
Great review! How does this compare to Athens Research? I’d like to migrate from Roam, and I’m deciding between Logseq vs Athens.

From your description, it sounds a lot like Obsidian. How do the two compare? And would you recommend it over Obsidian?
Obsidian = markdown editor, better for longer texts
logseq = outliner, better for structured and heavy linked knowledge

How do you get a document outline in Logseq?
How does it compare to obsidian
Does logseq allow custom CSS ?
This seems like an obsidian application but with more features

I think it depends on what your requirements are.
If free is one of your requirements, then obviously.
I think Roam has other objectives.
Logseg has document mode too, "t d" to trigger.

What about org-roam with Emacs?
hard for me to use...
This looks a lot like Emacs. What is not doable by Emacs that LOGSEQ can do?

[[Logseq]] vs [[Roam]]
It's NOT for notes - it's a journal. Good luck finding s**t.
Meh. Tried it for a while and bugs a lot. Good concept, bad execution.
They rewrote much of the code some time ago and it's much more stable since then
