What do you y'all think of the Aqara Smoke Detector?
Unfortunately, it does not seem to be available anywhere online just yet, so it might be a little while before you can get your hands on it..

Yeah his reviews are awesome, but unfortunately nearly all the products he advertises are unusable in the west, as the company who's products he largely reviews i.e Xiaomi and partners refuse to implement EU/US servers on 90% of their products. So you can like their products as much as you like but you can't use most of them unless you want to use mainland Chinas servers which is not ideal, neither is having to use plug socket adapters as they have different type plug sockets and neither is having no warranty and potentially getting hit with import duty charges when you try to buy them. Personally I'd be happy to risk import duty charges and lack of warranty but i wouldn't be too happy having to use Chinese severs; not due to anything bad towards the Chinese or anything, I just prefer our data protection laws and less latency using local servers vs servers on the other side of earth.

@@souk-tv Why unusable ! You can monitor your home entirely even if its mainland China server.

Somebody needs to point out, that the biggest issue with Xiaomi IoT devices these days is, that there is not a single server where you are able to connect ALL devices.
As Xiaomi-Fan from the start this is really annoying me more from day to day. I've imported a lot of stuff from China to Europe and I was fine with using the Chinese Servers. But now there are products that can only be connected to the European or Hongkong-Servers, for example the S5Max or the newer smart sockets with European plugs. But it's impossible to connect any of my Yeelight ceiling lamps, Philips bedroom lamps or the first Mi beedroom lamp to any server outside China. Sadly, nobody is listening and/or trying to find a solution for the early users that helped to make Xiaomi the company it is nowadays. Would be great to see Influencers like you addressing these problems. Because now we're in a situation where a mixed product-lineup starts to get unusable because it's impossible to benefit from it's former biggest advantages: Lots of different devices that can be controlled in one single app, making your home really smart with nearly no boundaries. I don't understand why they aren't looking for a solution. So in my case I'm not going to buy any new product and maybe I will have to switch to local solutions, leaving me with 70 Xiaomi IoT devices in a home that used to be on the best way of being really smart...

It's true! I'm very confused when I need to buy new product smart home from xiaomi. I must know the product can register from global or only china mainland.

You can run dual apps in Android, and you can have multiple CN & EU gateways if pairing is an issue. IOT Geofencing will always be with us because of data privacy and differing electrical and radio standards.

@@Avantime Problem is, you can't use Dual Apps/Second Space if you want ro use Android Auto. It's not working anymore if you're using one of these features.

@@Bonesucker Yeah that's not good. Maybe buy a cheap phone just for Android Auto, or buy a full Android head unit?

Please test the battery life, I am very curious how will be a battery life on a WiFi device with 2 AA batteries! Except if it only connects to WiFi when smoke is detected

    My thoughts.
    1-Price - downside
2-Not using Zigbee - downside. Battery life will be terrible.
3-MOST IMPORTANT (as non china based user using china mainland server and products for that market) - the NB IOT cloud service - PRIVACY ANYONE?.
4- Design - the Xiaomi model is much more likeable.

Good video, but... You should move your smoke detector, it shouldn't be that close to the walls. At least 0.5 meter away from the walls.

Far too late in my opinion and the batter idea looks a bit strange to me.
Are they crazy to use WiFI and its power consumption ?
No one wants to replace the batteries so often so please offer a zigbee one that will work years instead of weeks with even smaller batteries.
I will never buy one of the these wifi ones.

If you have more then one smoke detectors, will they sync? I mean if you have one upstairs and the other one downstairs and smoke is detected upstairs will it automatically starts the smoke detector downstairs?

      *If it gets available
It was a partnership with Chinese Telecom, it's possible that this feature will only ever be available in China, instead of partnering with companies all over the world.

Honestly, i think Xiaomi smoke detector is better in many ways. Using zigbee means more power efficient. And since most of us are at home anyway, a “cellular” backup connection isn’t necessary. And it looks good too.

Can the Chinese government hack into all the Xiaomi devices?

    • @tobyport5873

obviously. which is why you should have all iOT devices on a seperate network with a locked down VLAN. If you spend the time getting your network secure so these devices cannot talk to anything other than the china servers, they are fine. let them be hacked all they want, if they cant talk to any other device on your network directly, they cannot go anywhere.
