  • In 1961, Charlie Nicholson made history becoming the first country musician to sign with Arty Records. During his 8 year tenure wirh the label, he released countless songs, but his most successful tracks would be "Shut That Baby Up!" in 1962 and "You Can't Cook Shit Right" in 1965, which went number 1 on Billboard.
This song was inspired by Nicholson's real life son, who just wouldn't stop crying when he was a baby. It got so bad that Nicholson left his wife and son to go sleep in the mountains for some peace and quiet. Charlie himself said he had to fight off wolves, bears and even Bigfoot (take that how you will), but noted it was worth it to get away from his own "annoying spawn".
By 1979, Nicholson's son Teddy became an adult, and embarked on his own music career, but was booed everywhere he went and dropped from each label that signed him. It was said that whenever setbacks would arise, Teddy would "cry loudly". Guess some things never change.
Hi! We're Arty Records. We remaster all the wacky and kooky songs from bygone eras. At Arty, the focus is always the art.
