I'm a union Ironworker and spend every day on construction sites. I own the Milwaukee, Both Dewalt systems and the Makita boxes. First, the Packout and Toughsystem boxes are much bigger than the T-stack and Makita boxes. That lets them hold more, but that makes them heavier and harder to store and transport. The Makita boxes are compatible with the Festool boxes, i believe both are made by Tanos but the makita boxes are based on the systainer classic and the festool are T-lok. For my daily use I use the Dewalt T-staks, Since they are smaller I find them easier to get in and out of an SUV and to lock up at night in the company Job Box (Knaack Box) and more modular. I use the Makita boxes for power tool storage in my garage. Both have served well. All my Toughsytem boxes have broken latches, and some of the cases have cracked. The milwaukee boxes are nice, but for me too big and heavy when loaded to get out of my vehicle, drag up stairs, or try and store in the limited lock up space on a job site. For a garage they would be great, or if I had a dedicated work van to transport them and store them.

as to tanos yes and I think you can buy them (tanos boxes ) at Lee valley . I think the Fes has a box 1 size bigger than the Mikita as well other than that I think its just the locks that differ

Correct, Tanos Systainer systems are being used by many manufacturers for their tools (also Shaper and Rolair in the US). All compatible. Festool as Tanos' sister company offers the entire product line of systainer plus their own systainer products that they developed with Tanos. Tanos has many different colors for the box and latches, mix & match. They just came out with the Systainer 3 generation, more features (finally the front handle), integrated rail mounts, new organizers and a new XXL size (nice for a chain saw). Plenty options and still the lightest boxes you can find. Definitely a great system

I was on a budget so I went with husky system and for the price it has worked great the side clips actually do hold the bins together firmly despite looking a little weak, top bins offer good organization, and the whole setup is fairly tuff but for the price and being on a budget its a great system....

What I loved about the Ryobi toolbox is that you do not have to take the boxes apart in order to get to the tool you need. You can access all of the tools from the front of the cart.

I am an Aircraft Mechanic, my line box is set up with 3 Dewalt Tstak iv, Two DeWalt Tstak iii, the trolley, and a top box. I used kaizen foam to shadow each drawer, and because its lightweight its easy to move into and out of the work van and even fits down the aisles of the planes as needed. It works well for what I need.

I have the DeWalt system, never had a single problem with water getting in. I will say, with that ruggedness it adds a ton of weight. The plastic is ridiculously thick and the metal latches are great. I do really like Rigid's system as well.

Bear, when I seen the Ryobi system I was starting to reach for my wallet until you said it was on in Australia. Knowing we can't get it here in the states busted my bubble. But, alas, God bless and Shine on!

1 year later, and I am salivating waiting for Ryobi to release their new Link modular storage system! Looks like we got 'em to do it. Great work guys! Let's hope it's as good as the Australian version was, or better! I'm looking forward to lots of options, and the different drawer arrangements like the Aus version had. Love the idea of drawers and front-facing doors so you can get to your stuff while it's in the stack.

I own both the Rigid system and have started using the Versastack system. I use the Rigid system for mostly for hauling ammo/shooting gear to the range and it's robust enough to handle the weight and rough conditions of the outdoor range environments. I'd like to see Rigid expand this system further, but the 3-main boxes are very well built and work great. With the Versastack system, I love the $17 small parts organizer box . . . it's what I now use as my main small-parts organization system in my shop/garage.

I own the Rigid set, got into it after watching your last video comparing the packout systems, checked it out myself. By the way, it actually has 5 different modules (that I have): the cart, toolbox, small box (I have 2). a parts organizer, and a basket (again, I have 2).
I just couldn't justify spending **that much money** on the Milwaukee packout system.

It'll most-likely live in my basement and garage 100% of the time. Solid system. Recommended for the weekender.

After looking at the Rigid and the Dewalt Toughbox Systems I settled on the Tstak. I'm not a pro, but as have said in the past, an avid DIY'er, old home owner and vintage RV restorer (as a hobby) (quarantine projects have included building a greenhouse from kit, plumbing in a pool heater and rehabing my Ducane grill). After having been a landlord for 20+ years, I wanted something that I could grab with all essential tools, and then boxes that I could add on with additional, task specific tools and hardware. When I looked at the Rigid and Toughbox I decided that they were too big to lug around the house or across the property for smaller jobs. I went with TStak and really love them. I have a combo of DeWalt and Stanley.
My main box is the "Top" box that has the long carry handle and the flip up lid topper. It is Stanley but doesn't look like they make it anymore but you can still find them, plus Dewalt makes a similar. I put small tools, utility knife, tape measure, tape, marking tools etc.. in the lid storage. All the usual tools, screwdrivers, pliers, hex keys, adjustable wrenches, hammer, files, go in the bottom box and this case is my grab and go. I have several of the single height one compartment cases, and I toss task specific tools there, for instance on the green house build it held all of the hardware, the specific wrenches, nut drivers, sockets in this one. When camping, the "milk crate" holds my smaller plano type boxes filled with rivets, sheet metal screws and fuses. A cordless driver a drill and a socket set (and of course silicone spray) round out its packout.
You're never going to stack and lock three or more of these boxes together for hand carry (and remember, Tstak/versastak is the lightest system of the bunch) you're going to be dragging soon. But put a double height on the ground, add a single box to it and lock it and then your in use box sits on top, and you don't have to bend down to the ground to find a tool.
Your results may vary, but this is my experience and uses with these after 2-3 years of ownership. I like them and kind of want more. Get the long handled top box before they disappear, btw.

Good call. I think the tsta
k is probably the best bang for the buck and then when you add in all the choices they have and mixing and matching with stanley and dewalt it's a no brainer for DIY.

Great video that actually addresses the vast majority of our options instead of three or so. Someday someone will come out with the cat's pajamas system that is moderately priced, tough as nails, reasonably light, has smart compartmentalization, and has a balloon tired rolling dolly that can double as a hand truck. Maybe with arms that work with a system like DeWalt but can either be removed or flipped out of the way so you can use the cart to move around things like a water heater or other heavy item. The price and the cheeziness of the cart seem to be the drawbacks of the Milwaukee system. Maybe get the wall mounting system for Milwaukee and mount that to the base of a good balloon tired hand truck.

I like my Husky system. I have two. There are more components than you show. They have a parts storage unit smaller than the cantilevered one and a nice small tote with a folding metal handle. These are more useful than the center box, I took both of these and put them together on top of a HF moving dolly for “heavy metal” storage. Works for me and affordable. I also have one of their rolling tool chest systems for the same reason. I feel they have the best price performance and I bought most of this stuff with discounted credit card points for additional savings.

Red you've indicted they've updated the system, I hope so. I ended up with the Ridgid System and can attest to it's toughness. Had about 15 of these units for a couple of years and they've survived well. Absolutely no issues. I do wish they had a broader line for the system,

Bear, you short changed Rigid tool box stack. The line has a shorter 6.5" tool box and a milk crate type basket great for throwing last minute items into. What I really like is the Rigid latching system which are sturdy 3/16 wire with comfortable molded rubber so you can use them as carrying handles. No plastic latches to break. The latches snap back in the lower box when not in use. These latch/handles are really nice when the box weighs more than you can pick up with one hand. The Rigid boxes also feel like they are a slightly heavier gauge of plastic with a slightly simpler exterior design with fewer tabs or nubs to break off.
I use mine to hold my video, sound and lighting gear much of which is stored in smaller cases or pouches so I do not need a small parts organizer. Instead I need large empty spaces inside the box to put things into. Hint, the 6.5" box has a plastic insert in the lid to cover some nuts and bolts bins which I don't use. Take it out, it is not glued, and you get an additional inch or so of storage space inside the box.
I also have a small sound system and the Rigid stack makes a great total solution for all the bits and pieces that make it up. My digital mixer in a soft case and soft sided mic case fits nicely in the tool box. All of the cables and larger items store in the base. The top box for small stuff and a basket for last minute things. All in a stack with wheels and handle that latches together and is less than 3' tall without the basket.
BTW, the sweet sale price at Home Depot is $99 for the base and two toolbox stack. I have seen this price on black friday and recently at the Father's Day sale. I almost bought a 3rd stack.

Oh, and I have the Craftsman set, and 1 DeWalt small parts organizer. I'm an RC tech, and lugging a bunch of smaller bags got old really quick. I can put a project in the bottom, my parts in the middle, my tools are in the top box (which could be a little bigger), and then all my odds and ends in the organizer.

I think that it could be improved by having the ability to subdivide the boxes, but honestly am not sure how you'd do that economically and at scale. And it would be good if they had one of those nifty tool boxes for all your sockets, wrenches, etc. that integrated/stacked with this. I bought two full ridgid stacks this year. For the first one, I'd been looking at every option at HD when an employee came and told me he uses the ridgid system and he thinks it's by far the best value.. working really great so far, really easy to use, really easy to stack together, really easy to LOCK together with the lock rod that slides through all but the accessory box if you stack it to the handle, but they lock individually too and I could easily make a strip of metal to lengthen the lock strips if I wanted to.. in case I've gotta leave them at jobsites yaknow? My clients trust me so I trust them, but their kids, that's a different story. I've even left -all- of them (8pcs but the thin accessory kits were on top of the shorty boxes so kinda just 6) in an open truck bed while it was _pouring_ out, stuck inside talking while pissing myself expecting to find a few grand worth of tools submerged... nope, every one was bone dry inside! Maybe I got lucky, idk, but I probably won't have to get lucky often given how little rain we get here. I love all the big open space too, good stuff. Tags say "lifetime WARRANTY," not LSA, and the ridgid registration site doesn't even recognize any of the numbers, so I imagine HD handles the lifetime warranty. Perhaps HD contracted whoever made the husky boxes & said "make 'em a little bigger and better with some "safety orange" and RIDGID logos eh?"
The rest of this is just some tl;dr ranting. I'm boooored!
I've had fantastic luck with Ridgid, it's too bad that I hear LSA horror stories online and even from a couple employees. I think it really depends on your specific local home depot, and your relationship with them. Many of the employees at my local home depot have known me for decades, my dad worked there when I was a teenager until a few months before he died and many of the same staff is still there, just older and wiser, so they really take care of me. Twice now I've had them swap out a TTI ridgid tool over minor gripes, and don't get me started on batteries. If I walk in with an old battery (even some that were purchased solo so no LSA and even some I forgot to register and were all at around 4yrs.. oops..), they hand me a new one On. The. Spot. Twice now I've had a burnt 1.5 or 2Ah swapped with an OCTANE 3Ah (I hate the Bluetooth nonsense but I've tested and shown, at least a few percent less voltage sag on older tools and a lot more power from octane tools). I started with Dewalt like my pops, still have his old drivers and such hanging on the workshop wall, moved on to makita for a bit and still use a lot of makita corded gear, added some milwaukee over the years; m28 was bangin' imo, beastly hammerdrill power like a decade ahead of its time but finally exceeded by some 18v platforms in the past 3-5yrs, wish they'd still make big bad m28 stuff because I've now seen BOTH of tti's other brands' top of the line tools out-torque milwaukee's best over and over. Milwaukee impact drivers, paradoxically powerful for the size, but mass still wins and both the ryobi brushless with HP and the ridgid octane can break tighter fasteners and apply more torque consistently. Same with the octane vs fuel hammer drills, though they need to demand better chucks from their suppliers (Jacobs and ?). The octane is haven't used enough to drop a bit but I'm told to expect it, and those dope chuck lights might preclude throwing a Rohm on there plus the lights are sick so I hope I got lucky with my octane chuck. High impact torque wrenches? We have a ridgid octane and whatever the similar class milwaukee is called (they have too many designations) but they are SO CLOSE.. they both break loose anything we'll ever mess with, but the ridgid octane has just a tiny barely discernible bit more umph. In this case milwaukee isn't "barely less powerful but way more compact" though, they are both monsters and if you use 'em all day you better switch hands often 'cause if you use only your right or only your left, your friends will think you skip workout sessions for jerkout sessions :) My best guy for years now runs ryobi almost strictly and some time recently got the BL hammerdrill, he loves it, but we rarely have time for messing around so we haven't had an all TTI battle with it yet. seems like a solid tool but I don't think it can mess with the other two. Damn that price though, 80-100 barely tool? I don't run any ryobi stuff but I don't care what anyone says, they are a DOY line slowly becoming a fiscally responsible prosumer line. Anyway, it's pretty much all RIDGID for me atm but maybe in 3-5 years if someone introduces revolutionary new battery tech like milwaukee and molicel did back 15 or whatever years ago, I'll be switching again... or if I finally experience one of the LSA nightmares everyone else deals with but I doubt that :D
Note, none of us have any "hart" brand stuff to include in a TTI contest, or any other TTI brand that I may be unaware of. Maybe some stoned night we'll giggle our asses up to Walmart and see what they can do! I do like the colorway, even though it'll look trashed in no time. Scars and mars are signs of ahit gettin' done! (I say while recovering from a broken ankle)

@@jum5238 I make my own organizers for many accessories... denim or similar and a heavy duty sewing machine, great for rolling up spade bits, augers, & recip blades... or making THICK strong zippered bags for grinder wheels, multitool blades, accessories like chuck keys and grinder spanners and so on. maybe that makes me kinda girly, idk :p Within the next year I'll tranaition to all 3d printed on a massive 1m³ printer, just gotta make time to figure jt all out first :)

@@phxgen I looked up LSA at 3 different sites to try to figure out what you were referring to but I give up! (there is over 100 LSA definitions.) I finally figured it out . I searched Home Depot LSA and it came up - Lifetime Service Agreement. Ha HA! I wouldn't know I've never had one anyway. The only "Rigid" non pipe tool thing I own, is their 3 pc Roll around toolbox stackable sets. I've always used Bosch, Makita, and the Old USA made Porter Cable. That is probably why. Good story/rant you posted tho! I've never been a fan of Milwaukee since I found out they were owned by some French corporation in the 80s I steered clear of them. (even tho they had a couple great tools). I'm not sure when TTI Hong Kong bought them but they have grown huge over the past 30yrs. Now they make some of Ryobi's products, They Own Milwaukee, and like 3-4 other power tool brands. They own several of the common used US brands of Vaccum cleaner companies now as well. I see they snapped up Emerson's old Sears Craftsmen power tools remarketed as "Rigid" to Home Depot. They are turning into the Hong Kong monster corporation kinda like Stanley is here in the USA. I always thought of the Craftsmen power tools and consequently the "Rigid" power tools as a one store only brand and a bit lighter duty than the "Real industrial power tool companies" like B&D/DeWalt, Bosch, Makita, Porter Cable (back before they were destroyed.) Milwaukee has been Hong Kong owned for decades now, And most of the "Real" industrial power tool companies have to make all their battery tools in China to compete with each other! Its kinda a big mess. The regular 110v tools are even being made in China now in many cases. Its getting terrible, the quality is getting worse,(but not extremely bad, just not as good as it was), tool life is lessened, but price seems to dictate all as usual. I am amazed at how much the Communist China factories make for the world. Soon we will all be importing and driving China cars and trucks I bet.

I am saving up money for a Milwaukee setup for work (plumbing & HVAC). But initially I got a Hart setup to even see if I liked the idea. Hart makes good boxes, but after a year of wear and tear, they’re starting to get worn out. Will still keep them though, will make a good setup for around the house and easy to throw them in the truck for out on the farm.

I made a special trip to Home Depot just for that 3 piece Rigid set that was in the Fathers day sale. Yes, I checked the website and, even called the store to make sure they had it. When I got there, SOLD OUT and, the website also said out of stock! I ended up buying the DeWalt Tough System rolling base and middle box for about $10 more because I didn't feel like making the 80 mile round trip again later. The DeWalt is a good system for my needs and I don't really need the small parts box anyway. The management at H-D could've given me a better deal though, especially since the department manager admitted telling me that they did have the Rigid set in stock when I called.

With Kobalt really ramping up production on many new tools, PLUS their new XRT line, it would be really awesome if they came out with a line of mobile storage that can go toe to toe with the new DeWalt 2.0 system, and at a competitive price.

Ridgid offers more than what was shown, they have base rolling unit, large box with tray, small box with 6 storage trays, there is a 12 tray storage unit and a milk crate style open top box. For my money this is the system I went with and have kaizen foam custom fit for my tool selection. This works for me, and I have Milwaukee cordless tools prior to packout.

I'm a fan of the TSTAK/VERSASTAK because it has a smaller footprint, they're interchangeable, and I'm a DIY with no garage. I've seen some folks use foam inserts to organize their power tools which is nice. I've been tempted with Ridgid set in the past when they go on sale for $99 at HD. But since Lowes started carrying the Versastak that I could get a look at, I was sold. One guy had a good comment here that the smaller "staks" are lighter than the bigger ones by DeWalt/Milwaukee/Ridgid. They may hold less but at least they weigh less.

Got the Packout after a lot of comparison and research. Very pleased. Northern Tool was $10 per box cheaper than everywhere else, plus you get coupons when ordering online.
Originally wanted the Craftsman, but the different sections and toolbox were not consistently sized at the store. Just seemed weird. Also considered the Menards brand. Nice and economical, but it doesn't have a pullout drawer option.

I have the packout system from Milwaukee. I honestly adore it. It’s not cheap, but I think it’s worth every penny. These things have handled way more abuse than I could reasonably expect, and even after 3 years of being thrown around and tossed in the bed, left out in the rain and even dropped off a rooftop once. (About 14 feet. The large toolbox and a couple organizers) They just keep freaking going. The one and only complaint I have is, they are so damned expensive. Like I said, worth it, but I just don’t have the money to buy a ton of them. So they get overloaded and end up heavy and somewhat disorganized.

A few years later I cut a milk crate bottoms 1) bolted it to a tool bucket like how the Packout system came with 2) Bolted my Ryobi One+ Mitersaw so I could use the other boxes as a mobile saw stand

The Ridgid is far more waterproof than any of the other big players. They have a pretty good seal around the lids. Definitely not the selection of the others though. I think it's the main three: rolling cart, middle toolbox, small black organizer, plus the other small parts organizer (with the clear lid), and there's also the "milk crate" option. Those are the only ones I've seen. I just picked up the main three pieces with the Father's Day deal for the $100 and I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Before all these systems, I bought a Stanley FAT MAX, STST1,19" tote organiser..!🤣Wow! What a mouthful...lol...And I never wrote am the items name . Lol.
Can't they call it 19"Tote? Ha ha. Easy.
I used it for copper Soldering fittings in top organiser .
And in bottom tote was my blow lamp, flux, solder, bending springs etc.
Served me well....7-8years until apprentice stood onit in van.
See? Its others who don't respect and take care .
Organiser top clear lid smashed, metal latches fell off.
The top organiser and latches have that satisfying "CLUNK" noise.
    And just very well made.
I'm gonna miss you old fella, farewell my partner in crime ....we'll always have our memories?..lol
We will get our revenge! Yes...we will want patiently ...Then? BOOM!! Hit that little shit. Ohh yeh? After 2 years of him using my tools, and now my toolbox is embarrassingly empty of quality!! And I've ended up with hand tools that arnt mine. All which are ancient and crap!......Guess What? Yeh! He's bought a open top tote.

I went with husky because (1) it was the cheapest good system available in IL, (2) it has the 26” wheeled bin, and (3) one of my HD’s had the three piece set that had a crack in the bottom box and I got it for 35% off. The husky set does have more components that you showed, but nothing like craftsman or Milwaukee

What was the modular storage system Adam Savage was showing off? Was it the Bosch system? I don't know if it has all the portable cart options, but it was a really nice organizer system, fancier than my mix of Akro-Mils slat wall and bins and Durham small parts boxes and rack.
Beta I thought was primarily targeted at the racing and SCCA crowd. There was some odd tool I needed and they were the only brand available, but the price was just too high.
