I've tried several sriracha's since the Great Huy Fong Panic set in. Dynasty Brand, which is overly sweet to my taste and I don't particularly like the ingredient list. Shark Brand from Thailand is better. It's a thinner sriracha and come in two versions, one a little hotter than the other. Big bottles, reasonable pricing. And my new favorite sriracha is Flying Goose Brand with Extra Garlic, also from Thailand. Thicker than most, slightly coarse texture, fresh chile/garlic bomb taste immediately noticeable, not overly sweet. Flying Goose has an extensive line of sriracha's, I'm going to order a few varieties of the spicier sort to try. In a way, this shortage has proved a boon to me, got me to try different brands that I otherwise wouldn't. What I'm really missing from Huy Fong now is their Sriracha Ketchup, which is amazing on hash brown potatoes.
This is awesome. Thank you so much for making this video. It's kind of surreal that Sriracha has been off most stores' shelves for this long. Really appreciate your sharing this taste test with us.
Just found this review! Thank you. My mother in law ordered my husband 24 big bottles for Christmas last year knowing we were having a hard time finding it. My husband was excited to have so much. Then shocked when he realized there is truly a shortage. He keeps saying i should have used less😂 so here we are on the hunt for a substitute. Hes saving whole 1 jug he has left for "emergencies"
😂- give the Tabasco brand a shot, not as hot and a little sweeter but the flavor is great and the closest to Huy Fong and be found so far. We might start seeing Huy Fong back on shelves soon. I’ve started seeing them again but for very high prices - $14 a bottle at my local Chinese Market. Hopefully prices drop and supply increases.
The closest one I found for Huy Fong is from a company called Dynasty. The main difference is spice level and it's a bit sweeter but my far the closest
I found the _taste_ of Trader Joe's to be fairly similar, but (to me) there was no heat. I in fact recommended it to some friends who don't like anything spicly. The closest I could find (in So. Cal.) was Smart & Final's version of Sriracha sauce ... not as good as Hoy Fung, but the best of the rest. In the last couple week, Costco has Underwood "dragon" Sriracha, and it is my new favorite.
For sure a great analysis, thank you for the video. I’ve been on my own little crusade to find a replacement. One that I found that is very similar, maybe even better is Yellowbird Blue Agave Sriracha made in Austin TX. Another very similar brand I found at Fry’s/Kroger is OX Brand Sriracha from Thailand. Those are the two I’ve found that are most similar. I’d like to know your thoughts on those if they’re available to you.
Interesting! I’ll have to keep an eye out for those. I’ve tried the yellow bird organic sriracha which was good but didn’t taste like sriracha at all. Will give the blue agave version a shot!
Appreciate the feedback! I’ve tried the Lee Kum Kee but not the Kikkoman. Have the LKK in another sriracha comparison video here: ua-cam.com/video/SGErtfh-nz0/v-deo.htmlsi=GVa9wGq2axdtnC21
The Tabasco Sriracha almost has a honey aftertaste to me. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don’t. I guess I’m lucky to have half a bottle of Huy Fong Sriracha left.
@@AGuThing I definitely want to buy the Tabasco flavor but I'm intrigued by the Flying Goose just because it sounds interesting. I feel like it would be killer on BBQ chicken pizza or a great base for a burger sauce. Thanks again #subscribed
The yellow sriracha is definitely mild in comparison, but it tastes fantastic on pizza especially when you plash a little bit of regular Tabasco in combination.
Someone else commented that as well. Unfortunately there’s no Krogers by me. Going in a few roadtrips this month though, will hopefully be able to find one along the way. Will definitely pick up a bottle and comment back if I do.
I'm not a fan of the Tabasco and Texas Pete srirachas. The Kroger store brand is okay, and that Sky Valley brand is not bad. I just picked up a brand called Sriraja Panich and from a quick finger test, it seems promising. Comes in a tall glass bottle. Also, I recommend the Hellman's "Creamy Sriracha". Great on stuff like pizza and chicken tenders.
The closet ones I found is the Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce brand by Tetsujin, similar to the original Huy Fong, Rooster Hot Chili Sauce. It has a light sweetness, vinegary tangy garlic taste and then hot at the end. Found it at 99 ranch. 😃
Is the 'standard' bottle of Huy Fong the original version? Or is it after the break-up/lawsuits, etc? Also, what did you think of the Underwood version?
This bottle was from before they stopped production the first time but not sure if it was with Underwood peppers or another source. Haven’t tried the Underwood yet but that’s next on the list once I’m done with all of these. Have you had it?
Walmart had some, 6 of the 28 oz bottles for $52.80 shipped, I love the stuff so had to have them! I tried the Tabasco and wasn't impressed but then I bought the "CHA!" by Texas Pete with a yellow top, and thought it wasn't too bad, was my alternative.
I’m glad the Huy Fong is readily available again locally! It’s not quite the same as what it was previously but still my favorite of the bunch. Though I haven’t tried the Cha yet, I’ve heard from a few people that was their favorite alternative.
There’s got to be more to the story than a pepper shortage. As you mentioned, no one else seems to have the same issues. Some theorize that they are having challenges getting a large production farm contract with them due to their history with Underwood.
Huy Fong has always been my condiment of choice when it comes to hot sauces. When Sriracha started being sold out…I like many others went on a quest to find a replacement. But lets be honest…there is no suitable replacement for Huy Fong. Right now any sauce we have is just a temporary fix till Huy Fong get their supply issues fixed. But until Sriracha comes back to shelves.. I recommend Kikoman Sriracha, Sky Valley, Tabasco Sriracha. But I need my Huy Fong back!!!!!
I’m with ya there! Saw some stock at my local Chinese supermarket last week but it was $14 for the bigger bottle. Hopefully it’s a sign that stock will start to flow again and it wasn’t just a case they were holding onto.
So far.. as far as similarity to the rooster sauce, I like the Tabasco brand and also the Sky Valley sriracha brand. I really like the Huy Fong sauce as most ppl do, it was a staple in my home but I’m not freaking out about it. He might make a come back with his sauce and maybe not, it remains to be seen. I don’t think it’s an issue with not being able to find the needed peppers for his sauce or bad weather/growing season issues as he initially claimed. I think there have been so many interviews and stories written about Huy Fong’s bad business practices that he might be having a hard time now getting anyone to contract with him. Ppl don’t want to get screwed over in these hard times and they don’t want to worry about it after a contract is signed either. 🤷🏻♀️
Agreed. There’s got to be more to it than the claimed pepper shortage as no one else seems to have that issue. I’d bet you are right about suppliers avoiding them to protect themselves.
I totally understand not good on eggs but maybe chicken or pork. I use several different sauces. Huy Fong works on alot of stuff but I don't want to be held hostage to one kind of sauce.
You know what's interesting? The huy fong sauce has sugar listed as it's second ingredient, yet it has no sugar on the nutrition lable(or less than 1g)... and 0 calories.
Sriracha Panich brand…originally established in Siracha district, chonburi, Thailand, before the veitnamese American stole the name to register and sell in USA. Nowadays Siracha is industrial city with biggest Japanese town in Thailand.
Huy should have resolved their dispute with the pepper grower at all cost. Now they are losing market share at great peril. I actually like the Tabasco and will not return to Huy. All good things come to an end and Huy is ending fast!
at my publix in florida something is off....i used to hate it before, but the new peppers and they are using less garlic . i actually love it@@AGuThing
Yeah, seems to by plenty of jalapeños everywhere else and no one else seems to be having the level of issues they are having. There’s got to be more to the story.
You don’t have a choice but to switch from Huy Fong… so, you’re not exactly sending them a message. I agree though… plenty of farmers saying that there is no real shortage of peppers… so, might be some other kind of shenanigans going on. Can you imagine how much money they have lost over the last year?
@@jeffbateman2339 Definitely over $100M in lost revenue. There has to be me more than low supply of jalapeños for them to completely walk away from that revenue potential. Even producing what they can is better than stopping completely, many people will switch back to Huy Fong if and when it’s available again but many may also stick what whatever new brand they found.

Moral of the story...you make pepper sauce, don't sue your pepper supplier without a solid backup plan 🤔
Yeah, save a couple bucks by not going with your reliable, consistent vendor of 28 years ... go to Mexico. OOPS !! Can't keep up.

Thank you for your service. I have been STRUGGLING!
My pleasure! It was a fun little test
Have you tried the Underwood Sriracha brand? They were the original chilli supplier for Huy Fong back in the day.
I've bought the Underwood "dragon" sriracha at Costco a couple weeks ago.
It's my new "go to." Today, two more bottles.

Yeah. The Tabasco is definitely a bit sweeter. Works on a lot of things but not everything the Huy Fong is good for.
Fuk Huy since the Lawsuit he lost twice, once on appeal..
23.3 million owed.
Underwood owed 1.5 million for over-priced peppers.

I'm using the Tabasco Sriracha sauce, it's actually pretty good.
Yup! Closest I’ve found so far to Huy Fong.
I hope that Siracha if they ever disappear will give the exact recipe for their sauce

The shortage is because Rooster Boy got greedy. Buy Underwood Siracha instead; it's more ballanced and has more heat.

Ah yeah. Tricky, tricky… it’s because they list the serving size as only a teaspoon so everything can be rounded down to zero.
Thanks for video, lil jealous you had a bottle of real Sriracha
You better search for the original sriraja panich chili sauce from Thailand
Hue Fong is the best. A true classic i find Texas Pete Cha is very close to it.
Cool! Haven’t tried the Texas Pete one yet. Will keep an eye out.
This should have been a blind taste test to eliminate any bias.
Ah that’s a great idea! Will keep that in mind next time. In the mean time I think I’ll try a blind test and see if I can correctly ID each one.
The best is Underwood Ranches Sriracha. they have the perfect pepper and they don't screw their partner.
Tabasco isnt even close to the original Huey Fong, i find LEE KUM KEE red top chili sauce to be pretty spot on.
I buy Sirachi from the Dollar Store.
Direct import from Thailand where the sauce was created.
I can't stand most of the other sauces I've tried and in comparison even the ok ones seem to be way to sweet and often to thin.
Yeah, the Tabasco is surprisingly close but nothing has the perfect balance of savory garlic, heat level, and sweetness that Huy Fong has.
