They will write off any *Petrol or Diesel* engine cars much more readily than they used to do. It's not difficult to figure out why.
This is the most ridiculously light write off damage I think I have ever seen on any car.
I think you have to look at the bigger picture, the insurance engineer would for safety reasons only authorise all new suspension parts and a complete steering rack road wheel and tyre, new doors. The labour costs would be approx £900, paint materials £600 plus the parts costs. If the owner is in a hire car and the parts are unavailable this costs would make this repair uneconomical. As the damage is light the insurance company will get a good price for the salvage.
Cars get written off with seemingly little damage because of the potential for credit-hire bills. All the while it's off the road the owner (if he's not at fault for the accident) can obtain a hire car on credit. The price of hiring such a car is MUCH higher than the spot rate you would pay and it is therefore in the hire company's/repair garage interests to string out the repair time as long as possible ( sorry, there was a back-order on this rubber grommet we needed) , so the hire bill can run into THOUSANDS (£60,000 - £70,000 credit-hire charge is not unheard of). Its often cheaper for the insurer to simply write the car off immediately (then the credit-hire HAS to stop almost immediately), pay a relatively small credit-hire bill and sell the salvage for a good price rather than pay the full repair costs AND a potentially huge credit hire bill.
This is one reason why car insurance is so expensive. Ins co are writing off the full value of a car because it's easy for them to do. Damage on this is minimal but if you'd take the car to a repair shop, the first question they ask is 'Is it an insurance job or are you paying?' If you say insurance, they now stick a couple of grand on the cost if you had said you were paying.
Really nice simple fix with nice spec and low mileage. it may have been worth getting a quote to have the original doors fixed because they did not look too bad. You should be able to move this one one very easily.
I noticed when you took the front door off the inner bracket for the bottom of the wing was buckled up, and would of been easier to repair with the door off,
This looks to be a straightforward one, hopefully a quick turnaround Phil😊.
Hi can't believe they rit the car off. Not much damage, great video, from marty in Belfast northern Ireland
Great job Phil , nice little money earner. This will sell quickly
It would have made sense to paint the door insides before fitting 👍
Absolutely rattling through them now. Love the interior, not 100% sold on the exterior but it's definitely an improvement over the original.
Hi Phil, not sure if you got distracted when your friends turned up but you didn’t appear to tighten up the lock nut for the track rod end.. 😊
you should have had the other doors painted black 😁
Looks a nice car Phil. What's happened to telling us the numbers it's cost etc? Also what happens to the cars you repair? Do you sell them to subscribers or advertise elsewhere? Be good to keep us Informed.
Another great video Phil nice car
So 2 great things in this video was a nice easy fix for a change and No bellend using a chainsaw so win win🙂👍
Great video mate
a lovely little car, well done for spotting it. love the new jack, what model and where did you get it from
You make it look easy mate
Loving the channel.
Can I ask what salvage auctions do you use to find your cars and also which platforms do you use to sell them.
Thanks in advance
That was minimal damage on a fairly newish car with low miles so writing it off seems a bit extreme. You begin to wonder what Insurance companies will repair these days - perhaps it a strategy to get people to go EV?☹
Nice car & a quick flip think the colour might be Frozen White 👍
@1:19 If it is an Ecoboost 1.0 with that "wonderful" oil driven timing chain and "extended" oil change interval, it is an easy write-off because a timing chain swap is cost prohibitive in many cases.
Belt not chain
Nice motor Phil, but I personally do have an aversion to the Ecoboost engine, or Ecoboom as they are also known as! Nice easy parts swap out and paint shop visit - sold 👍😎
Cannot understand why this was written off great job 👍👍
Nice video, but don't the EcoBoost engines have a terrible reputation for oil starvation when the wet belts disintegrate and clog the oil passages?
Lovely Jubbly on the video, whoever wrote that car must of been called Stevie Wonder, absolutely ridiculous Phil.
Allwite mush glad to see no sicknotes for a bit 🤣 glory glory qatar utd
A few reasons why such as that is written off, the value of the car to the insurance company, if it was a hire car they have low residual value and loss of lease time, was it motability and in today's climate is the new parts available for the vehicle as insurance won't fit second hand parts. Have you a geo report as the damage looks close to the wheel.
My grandad has a 69/2020 plate st line blue with black roof the only thing he dosent like about it is the boot
Should’ve changed the discs as well🙁
Nice clean
Due for a cambelt change then
On a Mk8, you can have a limiter OR cruise, not both. Probably the same on a Mk 7
how can that be a write off,, Mad besides the wheel my daily driver has more dents, there must be some dodgy deals going on at auction places and insurers...
geiger counter going off now and again (eg 1:13) maybe a clue to why it written off? :D I kid!
On camera is the n\s
wheel ok looks bent too me .
Not sure Phill ever gets the wheel alignment checked.
Defo
Parts and paint for the whole side plus suspension killed this car ,I just bought a 2016 focus door and it cost £700 from ford
I can’t believe that car was written off 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
hello mate
They make more from copart than repairing it
Are any of the cars you do not ‘nice cars’ or drive really well? You drove the jeep two feet and said it drove great?
Sell it to the Black and White Taxi Company as is !
Bizzare that was written off for that damage.
ita a fiesta on stilts absolutely horrible quality inside, cheap plastics everywhere, very cheap cars in comparison....Still get Halogen lights also they are hidden behind a projector for some reason and good luck driving at night...absolutely awful car....interior is terrible quality....that Sync 3 is way out of date looking at the UI...its written off because they hold no money and are one of the worst for depreciation....Quick tip, dont buy black doors when you need to go white
Anymore shit?
