Covid pandemic simply accelerated the decline of Canada economic and financial stance. Canada was in decline before the pandemic even hit us, due to a series of bad policies, short sighted thinking, wasteful spending, and mismanaged priorities years before.
However, there is one thing that I whole heartedly agree with: lack of community and individual atomization all over Canada. We cannot survive alone and doing everything by ourselves. That is something which is no longer feasible in this state of economy. We already see many young people in their 20s still living with their parents, couples being more frugal on personal finances, more people working 3 jobs just to have savings, and more people doing side hustles that they (normally) wouldn't have done. The young mother is spot on with that one! You're going to need savings from multiple families in order to purchase any sort of private property.
BUT, what I find striking is how much we've changed (for the worst) as a society. My great grandfather worked 40 hours per week as a mail man. He could afford a modest home, 3 children, a stay-at-home wife, and provide comfortably for his family!

Everyone is so well spoken and articulate. They raise some really great points. We have to change our expectations and not compare to our parents generation.

I moved to Canada from the UK with my family earlier this year. All I keep hearing is how cheap food used to be. We have good jobs, but the cost of things is absolutely extortionate.

Our earning potential as two Engineers is very high compared to the UK, so probably not. We are from (very) working class backgrounds, so we know the value of things, and Canada costs waaaaay more than it should.

I definitely understand the sentiment. The middle class neighbourhood I grew up in the GTA now costs millions to get a decent house so I left for Calgary last year

Great content. Love the ground reality. In essence, the state of Canada is that the country stopped making things and artificially the only two things growing the economy GDP is housing market and immigration. Wages have stagnated and productivity is falling faster than a Apple from a tree. Who would come to see a day where a middle class earner can’t even find time or money to do extra curricular activities like eating out or gym sessions. Totally a disaster. Why should we all only work just to pay bills. How does anyone find that sustainable or healthy for an economy?

Thank you for the thoughtful and honest sharing. It is indeed a very sad day in Canada…and much of the West. You truly touched on some very serious and important facts we are all facing. I hope to continue to shed light on what’s happening and hopefully one day we all can come together and figure out a way forward towards a better life. As you said, it’s not life* to simply just exist and pay bills.

These interviews dont reflect a rich economy. Certainly not 8th richest in the world. Its truly sad what is happening. I strongly disagree with last lady's Opinion. We should never accept that we wont own our basic necessities. Housing is basic necessity. Its very sad even unhumane how youth in this country have no hope of a decent financial future. Something definitely needs to change drastically.
I am very demotivated of staying here in Canada.

Copy the immigrants and get a job for every hour you aren't sleeping. Even if all you can get is minimum wage you can save money if you work 96 hour weeks. Did you think it would be easy?

Yeah. you can't even get basic stuff like chickens and eggs without waiting for days. And you can't even use your money freely. That's why Soviet Union can't sustain its dictatorship. Similar thing in China back in 1980s.
