The Alan/Justin/Phillip confrontation was one of GL's best moments ever, along with Kelly/Nola confrontation, the Josh/Reva fountain scene, the Roger/Alexandra showdown. And because there were several years (1977-1981) where viewers saw Phillip experience unending family disruption during his childhood despite the well-meaning intent of all his parental figures and Phillip wasn't SORASed too much, these scenes had so much resonance. Grant Aleksander should have won several Emmys for his portrayal of Phillip; he was one of daytime's most outstanding and underestimated actors.
Chris Bernau was the perfect Alan Spaulding. Combo of deviousness and charm and even a little empathy. And props to James Rebhorn --when he played bad guys, he played them bad, not where they were an anti-hero where deep down you rooted for them bull.
Chris Bernau had such an amazing voice. He would have been perfect as a Narrator for Audio Books. Also Bradley did what he did to get back at Alan for embarrassing him for losing his job. In their own sad way Phillip & Beth had one thing in common, Childhood Trauma. Beth being raped by Bradley and Phillip being lied to about his heritage. In the UK there was a Teenage Couple named Ricky & Samantha on Eastenders and Daniella Westbrook in the 1980's was The UK's Top Teen Soap Actress. She had such a devastating Downfall. Drugs, Rape, now she has the Bone Disease Osteoporosis. In many ways Eastenders is like Guiding Light with their Dysfunctional Couples.
Yes, in the UK there's a Soap Actor who has been playing Peter Barlow on Coronation Street and his name is Chris Gascoyne. He was Peter Barlow #7 but he was the most memorable and the most popular. Also to think in future years there were other kids who had "Two Parents". Phillip with Jackie/Justin/Alan/Elizabeth, then Emma with Two Mommies Olivia/Natalia, then Ben Reade with Kyle Sampson/Fletcher Reade, and even Gilly Grant with Charles Grant/Griffin Williams
James Rebhorn has been like a Good Luck Charm because so many of the folks he worked with have won Oscars. Marissa Tomei, Julianne Moore, (who are Cousins). Al Pacino, Cate Blanchett, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Matt Damon
You know what would have been awful. IF Leah Bauer blew up at him for wrecking her Parents Marriage and calling him all kinds of things including A Murderer for what he and Rick did to Ross Marler.
That's a good thought! Also remember how Drew Jacobs got upset when she found out that she too was adopted. Her Real Father was Ben Warren and Mother was Selena Geeson. Since Ben is Ross Marler's Half Brother, she has all these Relatives. I'm telling US and UK Soapology is truly surreal sometimes.
It's a shock. Lily went through the same thing on As The World Turns where she finds out that Iva is her Real Mother and she was the result of a Rape. Then on The UK Soap Opera Eastenders Zoe Slater decides to leave for Spain to work with her Uncle Harry at his Bar. Her Big Sister Katherine aka "Kat" says she's not going and then Zoe screams "You Can't Tell Me What To Do You Ain't My Movver". The UK Dialect is slightly different depending on where you live. Kat screams "Yes I Am!" it was considered to be one of the most memorable scenes in the show's history. It was later discvoered that Uncle Harry raped Kat and Zoe was the result. When their Father Charlie found out he pulverized him.

This explains why Phillip turned into such a creep later on.

Chris Bernau was the best Alan Spaulding.

4:16 I am amazed the flowers stayed in tact.
I was not born when this came out I saw the rearing in the 2000s. This was such an amazing scene.
Rest In Peace Alan Spaulding.
Bradley certainly didn't hold back.
James Rebhorn has been like a Good Luck Charm because so many of the folks he worked with have won Oscars. Marissa Tomei, Julianne Moore, (who are Cousins). Al Pacino, Cate Blanchett, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Matt Damon

RIP Chris Bernau (Alan Spaulding #1), Tom O'Rourke (Justin #1), and James Rebhorn (Bradley Raines).
In reality Phillip was "Legitimate" since Justin & Jackie were still Married at the time of his Birth.

Do young adults get as melt-downy when they learn they're adopted in real life, as they do on soaps?
