  • Saudi Arabia and Newcastle United have further intertwined after Saudi took over the club in October 2021, as the Saudi national team touched down in Newcastle last week for friendly matches against Costa Rica and South Korea.
While hundreds of local residents and Saudi students turned up for the fixture against Costa Rica wearing Newcastle's green away kit which is thought to be inspired by the colours of Saudi Arabia, a small protest also took place an hour before kick-off led by Newcastle United Fans Against Sportwashing, a group of supporters opposed to Saudi involvement in their club.
Newcastle's Saudi-led owners have spent over $400m on transfers and propelled the team to their first top-four finish in the English Premier League in 20 years.
Earlier this week, Saudi activist Lina al-Hathloul, sister of high-profile former detainee Loujain al-Hathloul, held a meeting in Newcastle in which she urged the city's football fans to speak out on human rights abuses

I consider democracy, in short, to be a chaos that is not in the interest of any country. You know that our religion calls for solidarity and for there to be someone responsible, even at the level of a small group. For example, if three people go out on a land trip, they must nominate one of them to be the one responsible and the decision maker so that we do not disagree, and there is wisdom. An Arabic saying: “People’s satisfaction is an unattainable goal.” This is democracy in a nutshell.

When a person from the general public appears and hurls false statements here and there, the community accepts it as a reliable text and builds their ideas on it, which causes the community to disperse.
