Hey! I'm assuming that you already know about his DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and bipolar disorder. I'll explain here since I don't know if I already explained to you (my original account was deleted and if you reply to me and don't answer it's just because UA-cam deleted my comment). Here it goes: It is believed that DID stems from severe or repeated childhood trauma. The mind creates a "new person" to take the trauma for the child. That person was Mito. Then the mind of the child can't fully integrate and it becomes multiple identities with different tastes, beliefs, motives, memories etc. The identities (called "alters") alternate being in control of the mind. Mito and Mr Insanity are two of these alters. Mito is the protector alter. He takes control whenever Ian is under extreme stress. Mr Insanity is also the manic highs. Mania is the bipolar phase when the person has extremely high energy and/or euphoria, barely sleeps, does careless actions and doesn't care about consequences. Ian is the "host", which is the prominent identity, the one that is most of the times in control of he body. Under extreme stress or trauma Ian would then disassociate and have black outs for hours days, weeks (the most being a month), and when he comes back not remembering anything that for example Mito did or said during that time. Basically his life has been lived and he doesn't know how. The identities are like fragments of a mirror. Each of them functions separately but they are still fractions of a whole mirror, of a system. A "system" is how someone with DID may refer to themselves. The physical version of his first EP had a broken mirror on the inside. Now about this video: In the story, Mito is represented as a fallen angel. This is inspired by the fact that Mito has a lot of biblical knowledge that Ian doesn't have. He's religious and marks himself with a cross while Ian doesn't even go to church. In DID, different alters have different memory banks, so one alter could know something that the other doesn't. There are some cases that report alters being able to speak a language that the others have no knowledge of. In the story, Mito was the first creation of a God known as the “Clown God” which is actually Mr Insanity. The “clown” aspect is inspired by the fact that Ian always considered himself a “class clown” since childhood. The God aspect relates to the fact that when someone is manic they can have a God-like complex. It can happen figuratively, as they don’t truly believe that they’re a God but they feel so unstoppable and powerful that it could be compared to as if they were a God. It can also happen literally when mania turns into psychosis. One type of delusion that can happen is grandiose delusions which are unfounded or inaccurate beliefs that one has special powers, wealth, mission or identity. For example, thinking that you are going to stop a war, that you’re giving birth to the next prophet or, of course, that you’re a God. Mr Insanity then creates versions of himself by harnessing the powers of “The Other Side” which is where the story unfolds. Mito being the first creation could be inspired by the fact that Mito was the first alter. He was created by the mind of child Ian to take all of the trauma that was the root of his DID. The intro song on Ian’s very first EP is called MITO so this links to being the first song and creation. At the beginning of “Seraph”, the first song, the narration says "Where did I go wrong with you? Out of all my creations..." It shows a flashback of all of his previous songs "You were the epitome of all that is good. The utmost of my potential. You were my first" and the hand stops at the box where it's written MITO. Originally, Mito was meant to represent all of the “good” in Mr Insanity, something beautiful. However, Mr Insanity made his first creation so powerful that it took too much essence out of him. Any essence from Mr Insanity is extremely dark due to the chaos his nature can create. Mito eventually got too strong and became jealous of the other creations (of the other alters or of the other songs). He started resenting his creator Mr Insanity/Clown God. He then gets banished from heaven and, as a consequence, he goes through a phase of betrayal, then love, and that love turns into fury. It will be a transition that will change him permanently into the darkness/fallen angel that he is. Ian represents the descent of an angel by colors: going through white, red and then black - the official colors for Mito. White represents all of the pureness. Throughout this whole introduction there are shots of him dressed in white. This is meant to symbolize how Mito used to be since he used to be a seraph, the highest order of an angel. Red means that he still holds “love” but it’s mixed with “fury” (the cover of this album is red). Black is when the heart rots away from everything they love and darkness comes into full form. Continues...
At the beginning narration, the deep voice is meant to represent Mito's voice replying. That's because in real life Mito can reach an octave that Ian can't (in DID different alters can have different voice tones). Mito replies "And I'll make sure to be your last. You created me in your image. And now It's time to create mine in yours". All of this is inspired by the fact that Mito in real life always wanted to be the only one and can’t accept Mr Insanity as another alter. Ian has said previously that Mito would often say "There's only me and you” or “You’re just creating a higher version of yourself but that’s you. Your real other self is Mito”. Finally, as the lyrics for “Seraph” start ( “I set my wings on fire” ), Mr Insanity takes off his coat revealing his powers, and the universe inside him, then banishes Mito. In the next scene a solar eclipse is shown which could signify Mito as the moon, attempting to eclipse all of the other alters/songs including his creator. Mito swears to infect all of the other creations’ stories making him the main character of each story. The first song “Seraph” represents Mito's fall from grace as he gets banished from heaven, ceasing to be a Seraph and transforming into the fallen angel that he is now. After Mito’s betrayal and in hopes of stopping Mito’s evil force, his evil creation, Mr Insanity then makes another creation who is supposed to be his successor: Ian. Essentially all of the Ians depicted in other music videos (ex. So Beautiful, No Blueberries and so on) would then be different versions/products created by Mr Insanity, different parallel stories like a multiverse. Ian is a representation of Mr Insanity, the same way the letters for Ian are within the word Insanity (as shown in the transition for the next song “1 Shot”) while this is not the case with Mito. This could be inspired by the fact that Ian will black out into Mito, but this originally didn’t happen with Mr Insanity. Since Ian is an extension of Mr Insanity, there would be no reason originally to have a black out. However, since Mito is the first alter, dating back to early childhood, and is more established as a separate identity there would be the memory gap caused by the black out. Ian has said that sometimes, whenever he is going through a pleasant period of his life, he would unconsciously switch into Mito tainting the whole experience. In the story, Mr Insanity now trying to create new “versions” of him that would not be infected by Mito. This would be the same as Ian in real life trying to create “moments” that would not be ruined by him switching into Mito. After the birth of Ian, Mito is in search of him in order to destroy this successor. For that in “1 Shot” Ian gets kidnapped and brought to a house where he starts to hear distorted voices. One common thing about all of these “Ians” is that since all of them are versions of Mr Insanity, they all hear voices, as he said “different thoughts, different characters inside of him”. It is known that in DID there can be internal communication, as in an alter hearing the voice of the other alters inside his head. It could also be auditory hallucinations from psychosis (break from reality) originating from his mania, or a combination of both. In the case of mania, the voices wouldn’t have a mind of their own or a consistent identity. Ian is more concerned about the voices in his head than the fact that he was kidnapped. This is inspired by how sometimes in critical moments when Ian should be focused (like receiving an award, going into an interview, etc) the voices would come. Then whatever is happening to him doesn’t become the priority. The voices overpower that in a moment where it does matter to be present. Ian then finds medication in this house. The medication is for bipolar disorder and is put there by Mr Insanity, as if it’s a God, giving certain gifts to keep you in check. He also mentions that the pills seen here subside the voices. The pills would work for mania-induced psychosis but wouldn’t work for alter communication within his DID. Continues...
After this version of “Ian” was created, he started to also resent his creator because he wouldn’t understand why he was the chosen one, the next ruler, essentially a “puppet” for Mr Insanity. In this sense, he is similar to Mito. This could relate to both Mito and Ian not understanding why they had to through the trauma that originated their DID. In the “Skins” demo, the last line written by Mito is “I’ve never asked to be like this”. This could mean never asking to be born from this trauma, yet having to deal with its aftermath: either remembering it (Mito) or forgetting it (Ian) every day in their lives. Both reluctantly put into this cycle of going through blackouts and then having to deal with the result of whatever the other has done in their body. After the medication kicks in, the song “Mood” begins and as the title suggests, Ian goes through a variety of moods while the whole room becomes more vibrant. Mito (the dark flying figure) is going towards the house chasing him. After taking the medication, the voices disappear and a painting of a woman with black and red around her appears. Ian has said that the reason that painting spoke to him is because one of her eyes is completely covered, representing Mito’s lack of an eye. This could also be about the painting having two of Mito’s colors, black and red. Ian then gets stabbed by a floating knife. Ian has confirmed that it was indeed Mito who stabbed him. Before he gets stabbed we see a glimpse of a hand turning off a light. The arm of whoever pressed it is wearing the same jacket as Mr Insanity. After being stabbed, the voices returned. The fact that the voices stopped then came back alludes to medication being sometimes effective only for a short period of time and creating a false sense of normalcy. Ian has said that the medication, especially “lithium”, usually numbs him. With the medication in this video, he wanted it to represent how it can “make you think that you are back when in fact you aren’t”, as in a temporary effect. After he took the medication, the whole room also turned into a lot more vibrant colors, even though his face stays monotone (meaning that he isn’t fully back). For him medication can numb the pain but doesn’t bring you back to the version more true to yourself. The Ian in this story doesn't want to resort to the medication, but he does, even though he should be trying to get out of this situation. Ian mentioned how when he was younger, he always tried to fix his switches and was a skeptical person so he had a hard time coming to terms with his diagnosis. This represents the story of many patients with mental health disorders that are reluctant to accept their diagnosis, seek treatment and take their medication. It’s incredibly difficult to accept the reality of having to take medication for a chronic condition that you can’t even see. Especially while being a creative and dangerously relying on those episodes for your job, for your passion. Through the blood spilled by the stabbing, Mito finds a gateway to “infest” this Ian and his story. The dancers in red (Mito’s minions) then find him and at the end engulf him. When the song “Ribbon” starts, the transition is complete. Mito now dressed in red is in control of the mind, until it comes back to Ian again. This is how DID works, the identities are always alternating being in control of the mind/body. Once Ian comes back, he runs through a corridor still being chased by the minions. At the end of this corridor Ian opens a door (we still don't know what he sees behind it). Mr Insanity is shown either opening or trying to close a chest that, as Ian confirmed, is inspired by Pandora's box. He harnesses his powers from the content of that chest and with that, he makes worlds. More about this topic will likely be disclosed when the other parts of the movie come out. Overall The concept of this MV is Mito trying to infest this Ian (in DID terminology he’s trying to “front”), to take over his ‘story’. Ian gets kidnapped without knowing who kidnapped him and gets brought to a house. There’s voices that are trying to help him because they are aware that something is coming, that something being Mito. At the same time Ian is trying to numb these voices with medication. After the stabbing, Mito succeeds and the switch happens, Ian turns into Mito. However, Ian comes back later and starts running away being chased by Mito’s minions, opens the door and sees something. We don't know what he saw. Congrats if you managed to read all of this lmao This from the essay that I made about his storyline. You can find it on my twitter ( squirrel7303) or I can send it to you on twitter or instagram if you're interested. Anyway, react to Skins demo! It's incredible. Thank you for the reaction!
I forgot to give you a preview on Skins demo since for this one context before watching it is everything. So even more stuff for you to read lmao This is also from my essay. Here it goes: The “Skins” (demo) is not exactly part of any storyline. It contains Mito's thoughts about holding their traumas for so long. It's basically a letter from Mito to Ian. Ian came back after a 2-day black out and found the song written and produced, the video already done all by Mito. It is the first time that Ian allowed himself to show to the world Mito's true feelings and not just how Mito is through Ian's eyes. Mito is usually shown as a dark, almost mythical/villainous figure that Ian repels and can't accept as a part of himself. This is probably because in DID protectors (Mito) can also punish the hosts (Ian). In real life, Ian until now doesn't know what trauma is the root of his DID, only Mito does. Mito, in order to protect Ian, usually punishes him if he ever goes looking to know about the trauma. As a child, this serves as a protection mechanism so they can block their traumatic experiences from their memories. “Skins” (demo) in a way feels like the humanization of a "villain" by giving him a voice. Ian choosing to release a 100% Mito creation instead of burying it was an important step towards their relationship and acceptance as parts of a whole system. Waiting for the reaction! Thank you again!
Oh, good to know! But i already reacted to Skins, i think it's somewhere between the first or second video i made about him! I was about to die, it's so good!
Wow chica impresionante. Si leí todo ( estudio todos los días sobre DID. No yo no lo tengo pero me parece interesante) creía que el DID de ian era a base de su bipolaridad y no por un trauma complejo!!
I did notice that he is hot too 🤠 this is a whole movie from dpr ian, i mean ????? He's not wasting time in showing everything he can do! And i want to recommend new artists! First, a k-rock band called Xdinary Heroes from JYP. I think you could be interested in their sound! Their concept is usually spooky, very halloween vibes. And the second one is a soloist called Woodz! He is another all rounder idol and his songs are just masterpieces!! Thanks for the reaction! PS: i think you are so beautiful girlll 🤭
