Great number! The tune/song was composed in 1916 and was popular then and in the 1920s. In the USA it was popularised by Al Jolson. The version that I know best via my collection of 78rpm discs, is by Bert Ralton and his Havana Band (of known as the Savoy Havana Band due to their being the main dance band in the early 1920s). This version was titled Bert Ralton's Maori Hula Medley" in which he segues from the Yaaka Hula song to Pokarekareana, recorded in 1926. Ralton, then the most popular jazz-dance bandleader in UK (and the Empire) travelled to Australia where he played a residency there to great public acclaim and then in 1924-25 he came to New Zealand which explains the "Maori Hula Medley". Sorry about this elngthy digression but I do love Ralton's amended version!
What a lovely rendition of the 1920s song. I have a version by Jack Ralton's Savoy Havana Band where he sings toward the end of the song and includes local Maori words toward the end of the recording. Ralton visited NZ in the summer of 1924-25 and was very well received. Sadly he died of a shooting incident in Africa a couple of years later.
SHAYE IS ALWAYS JACKED - look at how she always starts the songs in fast beat! Wonderful. You can't go Anda one anna two on these fast beat songs. she's perfect. Her foot is giving them the business!!!

Shay seems to give a little signal a few seconds before the start.
Love Robin on his solo!
A joyous wall of good sound as usual.🤘🏼
Toujours ravissante Erika
rub board player such a treat
I was a professional percussionist, now I want to be a washboard player - SIGN ME UP!
repeat; IMO Better with Erika's Drum.
