Swap the 335d for the updated lci 330d or 320ed both remaped and fillters cleared. 330d becomes 50mpg plus with 330hp. 320ed gets 70mpg plus with 230hp. And 1495kgs. 330d are around £10,000 and do 170 mph with a remap. Mine has 353,000 on the clocks. Reliable all the way.

    • @byMoodkill
      @byMoodkill 6 місяців тому +5

335d is the better option as it comes with the M57 engine. generally you want to avoid the diesel N series engines from BMW as they're not as reliable as the M engines due to the timing chain problems among just not being as strong. You could get a pre-lci 330d for under 3k and still get over 40mpg on average.

Hi buddy, if you are remapped to 361hp can i recommend regular gearbox servicing. Its just clean fluids and filters from ZF. BMW charge over €300 for this. But if you have a ZF shop nearby they are much better. I do mine every 60k miles or 100k km, every 3 years.

    • @sheeshulex

Cheap, Fast, Good MPG, Ulez Compliant. Pick 3.
But in all seriousness. Petrols made after 2004 (Euro4) and Diesels made after 2015 (Euro6) are ULEZ compliant.
Lexus GS450h, Peugeot RCZ GT, Abarth Punto, Mito QV, Fiesta ST are ULEZ compliant out of the cars in this video.
Under 5k you can also find some Euro6 Diesel 2.0 Volvos with around 190 hp, BMW *20d's, Benzes *220 CDI and maybe some VAG 2.0 TDI's. Those all get insane gas mileage, should be able to be remapped to bit over 200 hp. Be aware that all Euro6 diesels require using Adblue.
Euro4 and 5 Petrols will either drink too much fuel, will not be super fast or will be painful to own. BMW *20i, Audi 1.8 and 2.0 TFSI get great gas mileage and are quite fast. Euro6 petrol under 5k you can find some Insignias 2.0i Turbo, but most of the stuff you will see are going to be Stellantis 1.6 THP which are kind of rubbish.

A5 3.0 TDI has a facelifted version 2012-2015. It has a different, slightly stronger engine. Makes 245 instead of 236 hp, but is more fuel efficient and cheaper to tax. As of 2024 prefacelift costs 410 to tax, facelift is 240. You can also get it in a 5 door "Sportback" version, but that is more of a pretty A4 and not directly an A5.

It's the Volvo for me. I have a mapped and dpf deleted v70 D5 AWD. It is around 280 BHP but still gives 57.5 AVE MPG. Doesn't have all the electric toys that the other big cars offer but with boosted 5 pot on a twisty B road you won't miss them.

For me the Bmw 335d with a remap is the one to go for. The 330d with a remap is probably faster than the standard 335d so both are great options if you enjoy driving and want decent fuel economy as my 330d does between 35-54mpg depending up how I drive.

My worst economy. Well, after a 2.5L V6 Lexus, a 3.5L V6 Lexus and a 3.4L Flat 6 Porsche...it's the 1.6L Pug. 9mpg over 6 miles last week - I'd just got back from London so it was warm, I reset and blasted it to go shopping. I've had 10-12 from the Porsche and GS doing the same run, plus for a laugh I reset the gauge on a V8 Vantage but even that got 11mpg over 5 laps of a track on slicks. I didn't measure the Gallardo, but that car was knackered so who knows. Edit: But on a longer run, the Lexus getting 18mpg over 30 or so miles is the worst I can remember, I was driving at legal speeds, honestly officer (the 130mph and 2x bottoming out happened on a private road...technically).
Video challenge: most BHP per £ of total ownership, including depreciation, repairs, servicing, etc. It's an impossible thing to find really, but I reckon a 330d might be a good shout.
While I genuinely like every car from the video, with the GS I always want the newer one. For the Jag, Audi, Pug and Volvo the petrol versions seem worth getting. The Fiat and Alfa look nice but they're just worse Fiestas, which leaves that Ford, the BMW and the Merc to get. I think that Merc is aging relatively well, but while the Fiesta has been outdone now, it was the hot hatch king when it came out so it's that all day!

Right. Have I got a "worst fuel economy" story for you.
Chevrolet Scotsdale SWB Pick Up Truck. From late 70s... I think.
5.7L big block v8, push rod engine.
Had 2x 60L fuel tanks, one on each side of the rear axle. Obviously a car of this age had to run on super unleaded. £175 to fill both tanks to the brim. My amex still hasn't recovered!
This £175 worth of fuel ran out in a grand total of....... 89 miles. For a fantastic mpg value of just under 3.5 miles per gallon. I still want to buy that truck to this day. I have never had more fun driving something so awful.

My worst MPG/Economy has go to be when I had my scanner reading the instant MPG readout of my turbo converted Lexus IS200. On a mid pull it would drop to like 3-5mpg lol. Max I've gotten on the motorway is about 20-25 and that's driving at a steady 60mph pace... its a joke

@@nathanj7423 My IS250 was a 2008 in SR spec (best spec, I think). I sold it in 2018 so can't remember maintenance details but I was earning £16k a year when I bought mine so it can't have been too bad!
Main thing is: it's a Lexus. Servicing, tyres, etc., won't be the cheapest, but reliability is insane. They're older now so don't expect perfection and it's very dependent on prior owners, but in 4 years / 50k miles I did only tyres, brakes and servicing. Maybe 1 set of wipers. No repairs - not even a bulb.
I'm assuming you're aware they have no folding rear seats and the rear legroom is nonexistent too, those are the big downsides! In all other ways, nothing special but they're just good - 100% I made the right choice buying mine.
