Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand God's voice in the Scriptures that we may revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.
Day 126..wow David was blessed by God Almighty in his conquests..always dedicated things to the Lord. Once again hearing about Saul's death and the way his life ended was disappointing to say the least..he should have consulted the Lord, things would have been much different in his life. Much differently as David was blessed wherever he went. You have set up a banner for those who fear you, O grant us help against the foe, for vain is the help of man..prayers for Father Mike and all the BIY family 🙏❤
David and the mighty men going of a slaying and conquering adventure! Yeesh! Lots of work to establish a kingdom on Earth for the people of God . 🌸💕💗😑💗💗🌸
Hello, Fr. Schmitz. I have enjoyed hearing these “Bible in a Year” podcasts. After finding out about them recently, I have the luxury of listening to two or more of them in a day. Your podcasts create a lot of clarity, especially name pronunciation, and provide insight into how different incidents are related to later events. It makes the Bible much more understandable to me. Thank you for taking on this project.
12:27 Father in heaven we give you praise. And we do know, that with you we can do valiantly, without yo uwe can do nothing. If we remain in you than all things are possible. If we remain in you then we can bear fruit, and fruit that will last. And yet, if we remove ourselves from you, if we remove ourselves from your presence and from your power, from your help, from your holiness, then there is nothing that we can do. We can bear no fruit, and we can make no difference in our lives, so we need you God not only for existence, but also for perseverance. And need you not only for fruitfulness but also for faithfulness. So please Lord God, help us, to be faithful and fruitful. Help us to persevere and to be yours forever. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. †

Hi father Mike I loved your prayer,I am nothing without God. When you read chronicles I thought I was on the wrong day, because the death of Saul and his children etc was repeated. God is good. God bless you Father Mike and all reading the Bible in a year. Gods word 🙏
I’m just always grateful to be here daily and no matter how many times I hear it read it always get more. Thank you Lord for your Word and your servant Father Mike! Please protect him and all who participate here. 🙏

Thank you Father Mike for sharing the Bible with us. We would never make it through all these names without you. Praying for Father Mike and for everyone that God may Bless us and keep us in His care.
Wow! I caught up. Blown away how Old Testament and New Testament comes together. Thank you Father Mike for we hear your excitement when you are reading to us or with us and it gets us excited for more to come. God I thank you, you are changing us from the inside out. To you be the Glory. Praying for us all. 😇
I also like that Fr. Mike shows us the Old Testament in the New Testament and then relates it to us today. Thx Fr. Mike for you knowledge and help. Gosh...
Thank you so much ,I’m enjoying my journey. It’s like I’m in the scenes never thought I would enjoy my journey this much.God bless you fr Mike and all who are listening 🇿🇦
Lord, You are our aid and victor. Thank you for your Word that reminds us who we are, gives us direction, education and a vision of what is to come. We are confident that you will be with us till the end of the age and your promises are true. Show us your wisdom and kindness today. 🙏🏻
Thank you dear Fr. Mike. I never understood why some stories in the Bible apparently are repeated so thank you so much for enlighten us in this manner, 2 Sammuel and 1 Chronicles . God bless
Sherry Macaroni was concerned about the two different versions of how King Saul died; one version tells how he falls on his own sword and an earlier reading told that he was slain by the hand of a man who was then slain by David. Thanks very much.
One commentary describes the amalekites story as a fabrication. He found the king’s corpse on the field, stripped it, and brought the spoil to David in the hope of a reward. It is also possible that he “finished” the job. I hope this helps.
Thank you Fr Mike for explaining why it appears what we read in the books of Samuel and Kings are similar to that written in the books of Chronicles. The stories in the books of Samuel and Kings were on the scene stories as it was unfolding, while what is written in the Chronicles was a recount of the same events that had happened in the past to give us an appreciation how our forefather had fought their battle of salvation for us. Please correct me if I have misunderstood this.
Father Mike, please see my response to Sherry Macaroni's post made 7 months ago. I share her question and your guidance will be greatly appreciated. Appreciating your every word through some of these dark readings and for the light your bring. Thank you.
It's funny in Psalm 30 about throwing a shoe. I have said when Jesus said he without sin cast the first stone at the woman caught in adultery, I would have thrown my shoe and demanded, Where the man is so I can throw my other shoe?"
2 Samuel 8 shows David attacking and subduing the Philistines, the Moabites, and the Syrians in battle. Through these battles, the glory and name of David's Kingdom spreads throughout the land in accordance with his Covenant with God. David administered justice over the people. He appointed Joab as a commander, Jehoshaphat as a recorder, and several other key positions. 1 Chronicles 10 tells of the battle of Mount Gilboa between the Philistines and the Israelites. It tells of the death of Saul and his sons and the resulting defeat of Israel. It tells of how the men of Jabesh Gilead rescued Saul's body after the battle. It attributes this loss to Saul's unfaithfulness. 1 Chronicles 11 shows the elders of Israel declaring David to be king at Hebron. It tells of how David made Jerusalem the capital city and how faithful men were critical to David's success. It shows how a few of these faithful men brought David water when he was thirsty among other feats. Finally, it lists David's mightiest men. Psalm 60 is a Michtam of David that details the victories of David's Kingdom in 2 Samuel 8 and 1 Chronicles 18. David pleas for God's Mercy as they are afflicted. He places his hope in the Lord's deliverance. He proclaims how God's Word shall triumph over all nations. Finally, he states how God's valiant help shall deliver them from their enemies. Father Mike, help me to understand this. It seems there are two different version of how King Saul died. Which is correct? Thank you Father Mike. I am praying for you and all who listen to BIY and CIY.
It looks like King Saul fell on his sword but didn't die. It was a death wound. Along comes this guy and strikes him again, finishing off the incident. It could be that this guy said that he killed King Saul to get into David's favour.

Day 126, 12/20/21
Must admit all the violence is getting me down. And I'm afraid to look up what "hamstring" means... can't be pleasant. Also getting to me is the copious amount of David's concubines, and thus disobedience.
In previous account, it was claimed that Saul was thrust through by someone else (even though his armor bearer had refused). The person who reported to David that he had done the dirty deed at Saul's request, was rewarded by death. Yet in this account Saul "fell on his own sword".
I say none of this in a critical or unbelieving frame of mind, but rather confused and dazed by it all.
I believe that hamstring is when they cut the ligament and muscle behind the heel so that they become immobile.
Day 126, Samuel 8 (I think) ends with the words to the effect "David's son's became priests". I thought only Levites were priests, yet David is from the house of Judah ... and I assume his son's too. How does this happen?
