Alice's storyline really hit me.... i lost my mother a few years ago, when i was 18. And the moment Alice talked to the player as if she was her daughter....just broke me. Her saying that she is so proud of her daughter and just asking Basic things like "How is school? How are your grades?" My mom didn't saw my last graduation....This Game is so wonderful.
Been hooked on this game since I saw it on gamepass. The music is a HUGE part of it. Without spoiling anything, I just finished with Gwen. I 100% wasn't expecting it, but the whole scene, and especially the music, I cried. A 32 year old construction worker, brought to tears from a song in a video game. Borderline "Leaves from the vine" level amazing.
26, submariner for 5 years. You'd think nothing could nudge me, but currently playing and I am actually dreading having to say goodbye to any of my spirit friends
Honestly the game makes me laugh and then comes put of nowhere with an emotional throat punch and I'm crying my eyes out. I feel all the emotions and it has helped me deal with the loss of my parents.
The meteor shower theme will forever be one of the prettiest pieces of game music I have ever heard. During my first playthrough of the game, I'd often just leave the boat paused with the comet shower notification, doing my boat chores with the music and gorgeous sky in the background, going absolutely nowhere. It makes for a pretty screensaver too.
I hardly think about death, but when I nearly lost my father to cancer this year, my entire worldview shifted. This game... was really about "saying goodbye"... and your soundtrack hit me in my heart and soul. Thank you for this, Max. You've given all of us a gift I never thought the world needed, but we did.
I burst into tears on listening to What Will You Leave Behind. Beautifully done, not only the music, but also the lyrics reminding me of the loved ones.

I agree entirely. I would also like to add that this score is better than the majority of music heard in TV and Films today. I would even go as far to say that the music in this game is 75% of the game. I do wish the composers in other industries put as much feeling as is felt in this soundtrack.

This game came at the perfect time in my life, I'd just lost my grandmother and my father, I was completely lost then one of my friends suggested this game to me, I still haven't beaten it but from what I've played alone it has helped me cope with everything in my life.
this game changed the way i see life. after so many years i finally started to see life as a good thing, and fighting my depression. thank you soo much for these songs, really helped to change all my life.
In Stella's Departure I hear inspiration from Chopin's Funeral March. The funeral march is full of sadness and despair, but Stella's Departure seems to be more subtle and sustains a small spark of hope. Hope, that maybe behind the Everdoor is not nothingness, but some kind form of afterlife. That's how I feel it. Thank you Max LL for this amazing emotional journey. Spiritfarer wouldn't be the same without your soundtrack.
My game of the year. I played this game during a point in 2020 where I just needed a release valve to get all my emotions out, and during the week I spent with Spiritfarer I was in a constant state of sobbing. It all just came out in waves, and once I was done I felt as close as I could to peaceful. Even now I’m tearing up just listening to this and remembering all the goodbyes.
I just finished the game ("I am ready!"), and when I heard "What Will You Leave Behind" in the ending credits, I teared up and sobbed so hard... I love how the vocals are singing the melodies from the main motif that we hear throughout the game (like in "Spiritfarer" or "Freeing The Dragon"), that was so well thought to emphasize on the emotion. I saw other games doing that before with their ending credits songs, so I'm glad that it's been done again here, it always makes for a powerful effect. And the vocals and music in itself are so emotional, and when you add up all the accumulated emotion from the game, leading to this point... Definitely an incredible climax. The hummed notes at the very beginning, as the logo appeared in the sky, were already so very impactful and emotional, and then how those strings come in the background as the vocals start singing the melody of the main theme, that just hit in my weakness, that kind of powerful effect with strings just hit my soul. Also the track "Spiritfarer" and all its progression is very special and emotional for me because of how it was used for the announcement trailer of the game that I watched back when it was unveiled at that E3, and that instantly made me very interested in the game. The "care" part of the trailer with the hug, the part when all the characters are playing music together (I didn't seem to see that part in the game though), and the "goodbye" animation at the bridge at the end, along with the music, was very emotional for me, and I know that it will always be special for me. So I'm holding very dear to that track that got used as the main menu BGM. Then I absolutely gotta mention another of the highlights of the OST for me, "The Swarms Of Hades", and how Gustav was talking about the "magic of music" just before that gathering gameplay part, I can very much relate to that, for me music is the magic of our world because the powerful emotions music gives me are out of this world, and on a spiritual level. I so have the feeling that those lines from Gustav about music were meant for music fans like me, and I so appreciate it. And then I got so blown away by that BGM and especially the mad choirs in the background... I sure noticed them!! Choirs are another of my weaknesses in music, along strings. The dark, ominous, mad yet spectacular vibes of that track... I just know that Gustav would agree that it's a very potent magic/art and you did amazing
Playing through the game this weekend with my 11 year old daughter before she starts school tomorrow. Beautiful, haunting, and poignant, and that just describes the music.
The first time played Spiritfarer I cried. The lovely artstyle and beautiful music are eveything my heart seemed to have needed right now. Something about this game touches me very deeply.
My fiancee bought the game and I watched her play everything. Listening the soundtrack again made me cry. I long fo those characters back, and I think about my own mortality, and that of my loved ones. This game made an impact in me, even though I only watched someone play. And the soundtrack has a share of that responsability. Great work, you guys...
My 7-year-old has become obsessed with this game. She keeps talking to me about death and "her next life." We've used the game to give her a way to talk about this.
My daughter is the same. She won’t let me play a second without her there, even though every visit to the Everdoor is painful. I think it will ultimately be a good thing, and I’m really glad I have someone to share the experience with. It does mean reading all the dialogue aloud though, which can be really hard when, you know, you’re choking up.
Hey Max, I believe there is something beautiful when people like me - even after 4 years of this game's release - come here to thank you for giving such a feeling to Spiritfarer with your soundtrack. I hope your piano notes continue to move and captivate each and every new player this work of art welcomes. I am eternally grateful for your work!
Just a friendly reminder that this is perhaps some of the best music I've ever heard composed. I don't mean in video games, I mean generally. This soundtrack's amazing balance has between the playful tones to the anguished melodies, from the calm notes to the frenzied sequences is truly jaw-dropping.
This game I played shortly after my grandma, the woman who raised me and my best friend, my favorite person in the entire universe, died. It helped so much with my healing process, and I was OBSESSED. Literally played all the time.
Don't be scared Stella and the swarms of hades are two of the most beautiful and moving pieces I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Playing the game and hearing them for the first time, I was truly blown away. Thank you for this wonderful music!
Most beautiful and atmospheric music.. I really love listening it in a dark, with my eyes closed. As if you are immersed in a long journey. With a sky full of twinkling stars.. just u and ur imagination.. thank u for a music
Just know, I messaged the devs wheb I beat it when the game first came out. Every character is based on a person they knew and some were fantasized versions of their stories. They are the kindest people ever
I reluctantly played this game when it came out, hoping it would help me cope with the impending loss of my grandmother. She passed away in January 9.2021… literally the same night that I first sent Gwen to the other side. Gwen’s words will always stick with me: “Don’t forget that I loved you as much as I could.” Still hurts to remember. Thank you for uploading this❤
This game manages to calme me so much. I would wake up make a cup of coffee and sit there playing. Lost my progress so I restarted on a new account bit cant wait to see what awaits for me
Hummingberg is such a mood shifter, it's absolutely lovely. The accordion is such a blast of nostalgia for me, because my grandpa used to play it when I was little. It brings back such happy feelings. Thank you Max for the magnificent soundtrack :)
Meteoroids is by far my favourite, so incredibly gorgeous. Also I burst into tears (like many others) hearing What Will You Leave Behind at the end of the game. Really amazing job with this soundtrack, thank you.
L'OST est magnifique ! y a pas d'autres mots pour décrire la beauté des sons. Ils nous transportent dans une autre dimension. Je sens presque une petite influence Miyazaki peut être. Très bon travail Max LL
Seriously incredible OST. Charon's Burden is amazing and Don't be Afraid Stella is haunting. Song of growth really is one of my favourite melodies in ages. Really want to learn it on guitar.
This soundtrack is so perfect for this game. Cried too many times! But when the hedgehog with dementia passed, her story was too damn relatable to my gran. Her favourite animal was a hedgehog and she sadly suffered and forgot who I was at times. Broke my heart but so heartfelt
Just came here to say a heartfelt thank you for the music you've composed to accompany Spiritfarer. The journey wouldn't have been the same without it. This game helped me confront the grief I never processed when loved ones passed bc I was too afraid. To this day, I still listen to the soundtrack for comfort. Thank you again!
I play this to go to sleep, I never make it very far so I don’t get spoiled for certain scenes (because I knock out in like 5-7 minutes of this playing) but last night for some reason I couldn’t sleep instead the music called to my artistic side and I began to draw the characters I’ve met so far in a human version…I only got 1 hour of sleep for work but it was worth every second of joy. Thank you and the creators for this masterpiece.
The music in this game is so good and soothes the soul. The Last Voyage song is especially so painfully and beautifully bittersweet. I always linger here when parting.
I fell in love with the game, laughed and cried so much, following the adventures and all the emotions, and the music perfectly reveals the entire story. So beautiful, emotional and profound musical journeys!
I discovered this game by playing music from a playlist on Spotify while I was sleeping. I woke up in the night to find that my playlist had ended and Spotify was playing Song of Growth. I liked the song, saw the title art and liked that, checked the game out, Nintendo did a multiplayer sale and bought the game for $10. Best (and only) game impulse purchase I ever made.
Same but the song that I added to my playlist was the credits song and I bought the game about four weeks ago and finished it last weekend for only $8. It is one the best games I ever played.
I got this game as a present a year ago, only a week after my beloved father died (without me being able to say goodbye to him). At first I thought it would be a torture to play it, but then I started playing, and got through the worst weeks of my life playing it. The game itself is a perfect pad for grieving people (eerie, yet very practical in some characters. It conveys very well the many feelings one can feel while getting through death, and what the remaining people can feel after a beloved death. Any sort of people can be recognized through the game characters). This music is forever infumed with thoughts of my father. Thank you for creating such emotional yet ethereal tracks. They fit the content of the game perfectly. They'll remain with me until the end, I believe.
It's been over a year since I played this game, and I still come back here and listen to the soundtrack. It leaves me feeling pensive and relaxed and, always, a bit sad. I keep wanting to play it again but feel like that will never happen. It made too much of an impact the first time around...
This game is an amazing blend of when Gameplay and Story sit down in the same room and make something thorougly enchanting. Every aspect of this game is extravagent, this is the soul tugging stuff a lot of emotional writers and film makers aim for. The music works perfectly through every high, every low. Remember now, no crying until the end.
This game has completely changed my life in such an amazing way, from the story to the characters and realizing your own life it's just a masterpiece of a game that will always live in my heart.
What will you leave behind is just something, it brings me this inner peace but also wrenches my guts, it's so beautiful but so... sad. I never show sadness but the ost of this game almost made me break down in class lol
Words cannot begin to explain how beautiful this soundtrack is. Spotify recommended the soundtrack to me since I listen to video game music frequently. I knew the instant the main theme came on that I would buy this game. 25 hours in and I still listen to the soundtrack daily in my car. I have never heard a soundtrack that made me feel such sadness and happiness simultaneously. Thank you for your work on this. This is unforgettable. ❤️
This game found me exactly when I needed it. I bought it blindly because I needed to do something to help me feel anything but sad.. my mom at the time was on her deathbed sadly... and let me just tell you, this Game really Helped me cope with how I felt. It made me feel okay. Okay to let the precious people you have in your life go. The art, the music, the story , and the characters have all easily made a place in my heart. Thank you and everyone who helped make such a masterpiece of a game. ❤ I don't think you guys really know how much you have helped me.. thank you
i feel like... i just wanna curl up and cry, rolled in my own blanket, listening to the whole album. this whole journey was ethereal, and when i said i wanted to cry, what i meant is crying in a touched way, because this album have really touched the deepest part in my heart.. and i am really thankful for that.
This is one of those games I praise the music throughout the time I was playing. I came back for the OST and adds more depth to the characters , the adventure and story it’s so beautiful. FFX is what got me more into thinking that music is a heavy factor when making games and you good sir matched to what I remember as a kid when I played my first final fantasy game which was 10. It bought back memories. Whoever hires you for their music it’s gonna be a masterpiece. Bravo! One of the best music scores in a game I’ve played in along time. Thank you!
A great game is the collaboration of great artists from multiple fields, ranging from music to storytelling, to drawing and sound effects. When this is all brought together to a good framework of code, you have a great game. Spiritfarer is such a great game, and the music is extremely good!
I've never played this game but I listen to a lot of music and soundtracks for most of my waking hours. This video (music compilation) popped up while I was perusing UA-cam and I must say...THIS IS AMAZING. I love the light and whimsical riffs on flute and guitar, the "words" of the song, but at the same time, the low sweeping melodies support the overall "story" with an undertone of "feeling" that the "words" alone can't convey. Overall this is very complex and moving music that reminds me of the style that Thomas Newman and James Newton Howard have come to be known for. Favoriting this on my bookmarks and will no doubt be on the lookout for anything else that you release!
I keep coming back to this, and I still get teary eyed. This game was an absolutely fantastic experience in every aspect. Your music is just out of this world, thank you for creating this masterpiece !
Spiritfarer was such an emotional and beautiful experience for me, and the music really was a huge part of that. This soundtrack is truly great from start to finish.
Somehow managed to avoid spoilers and just finished Spiritfarer today. Gwen and Alice hit me the hardest, having lost a best friend to illness a year after graduation and then the slow physical and cognitive decline of my grandma until she passed a couple of months before the pandemic. This game and the soundtrack helped me to unpack those feelings I had buried for so long. Thank you.
My sister and I have been waiting to play this game together for over a year. Bought it up as soon as I saw it was available today. I was worried that it might not live up to our hype, but I'm happy to say it has far exceeded our expectations! I love the soundtrack! It fits the game perfectly, so thank you Max!
What a beautiful gem of a game, at first I was like this looks cool travelling with a giant ship and exploring the world while finding new characters, quests, treasures, Recipes,...etc, but after few hours from starting this journey and after bidding farewell to Gwen , the feelings slowly shifted from joy and excitement to saddness and emptiness It's rare for me to get emotional after experiencing a fictional form of art, but these stories and characters hit me hard in feelings, and when it was time to lead Stanley for his final rest, I was sobbing and heartaching like it was my little brother 😢
Both Jotun and Sundered have incredible soundtracks, but this one... Man, you really outdid yourself. Absolutely killed it (no pun intended). The range it has, the emotion, it's definitely one of my favorite gaming experiences ever, and this soundtrack is carrying a good chunk of that. Thanks, dude. It's beautiful.
Thanks for your art. In many way it changed a part of my life. That why I love art, a morning you wake up, you read a book, watch a movie, you listen to a song and everything is not the same anymore. I just finished to shoot a short film and even if topics are not related your music is always not too far. Thanks a lot.
Just finished the game and I can honestly say aside from the story, the OST is one of the best parts of this game. Absolutely beautiful music from beginning to end.
I was planning on buying the game on sale at some point, but I listened to 10 minutes of this score tonight and then stopped to buy the game on PSN at full price. Incredible work.
I was just having a back massage and they were playing some meditation music. The sweeping strings in it instantly made me think of the main theme running through the music for this game, even though I'd not thought about it for years. Lying there with all the emotions it caused flooding back over me. I had to find it to listen to as soon as I got back. Absolutely stunning and beautiful work. Thank you. First snow is just so beautiful in it's simplicity and I will always love Last Voyage because of how emotive it is. When the strings come back in 😭
The soundtrack for this game is one of my favorite parts about it. It's comforting and sad and cathartic. You and the rest of the team did a stellar job, thank you!
I didn't know anything about Spiritfarer when I bought it, really. A few people recommended it, I watched the trailer, and got it. One of the things about the game that just really blew me away was the music. Everything about this soundtrack, to me, is perfect. This game has become such a source of comfort to me over the last few months that I've had it, and one big reason for that is the soundtrack. Thank you so much for making this so good. It's not often I think a video game soundtrack is perfect, but this is. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

The first time played Spiritfarer I cried. The lovely artstyle and beautiful music are eveything my heart seemed to have needed right now. Something about this game touches me very deeply.
This music makes me cry at random intervals, despite me hiding my emotions extremely well. A true masterpiece, indeed.
Stella's departure is probably the best at capturing the feeling of 'goodbye'. Still brings tears. Marvelous work.
I have never cried playing a video game... This game and this soundtrack made me full sob. My game of the year.
My fiancee bought the game and I watched her play everything. Listening the soundtrack again made me cry. I long fo those characters back, and I think about my own mortality, and that of my loved ones. This game made an impact in me, even though I only watched someone play. And the soundtrack has a share of that responsability. Great work, you guys...
this game is amazing, the tracks are amaking, i cry all the time, one of the best games ever!
And I'm grateful the game and its music could have this kind of lasting impact, thank you for sharing your experience, really! 🙏🙏
The developers can be proud of themselves, thats all i can say... The game was tragically beautiful. Thank you for this game
If this Playlist isn't played at my funeral, I ain't move on yo
Meteoroids is by far my favourite, so incredibly gorgeous. Also I burst into tears (like many others) hearing What Will You Leave Behind at the end of the game. Really amazing job with this soundtrack, thank you.
L'OST est magnifique ! y a pas d'autres mots pour décrire la beauté des sons. Ils nous transportent dans une autre dimension. Je sens presque une petite influence Miyazaki peut être. Très bon travail Max LL
This game is truly something special. The soundtrack is easily one of the highlights.
I repeatedly use this soundtrack to do schoolwork. It's incredibly peaceful and tears me up just by sounding so nice. I love it a lot!
Still listening to this day btw! I'm currently crying over What Will You Leave Behind (feat. Maude Plante-Husaruk) [End Titles] 1:04:51
😭It's so beautiful. Truly. What will you leave behind made me cry. The whole soundtrack is magical.
Man, I got goosebumps when Thunder Harvest played. Love your music.
Seriously incredible OST. Charon's Burden is amazing and Don't be Afraid Stella is haunting.
Song of growth really is one of my favourite melodies in ages. Really want to learn it on guitar.
You are not alone. You are Never alone.
I just bought the game because of this amazing soundtrack. Simply amazing!
I legit just noticed there are different animals in the clouds. Very cool!
This has filled my soul with such bittersweet serenity, the beauty of life and the inevitability of death.
giovannis music, the crashing noises, the high pitches squeals, its magical. forever brings tears to my eyes
I haven't even finished the game yet, but Stella's Departure had me in tears. What a beautiful experience Spiritfarer has been
Been listening since release, but just noticed that all tracks have a variation of "What Will You Leave Behind?" somewhere in them.
The main theme is indeed sprinkled here and there across the game ;)
@@MaxLLMusic the power of leitmotifs never upset
Thank you for taking the time to write Teresina, it's always a pleasure to hear the way people discovered and experience the game and the music!
❤ I don't think you guys really know how much you have helped me.. thank you
Alright, Max you need to chill 🤯 The journey this music guided me through was one of the most memorable experiences of my life... thank you
i feel like... i just wanna curl up and cry, rolled in my own blanket, listening to the whole album. this whole journey was ethereal, and when i said i wanted to cry, what i meant is crying in a touched way, because this album have really touched the deepest part in my heart.. and i am really thankful for that.
Whenever that first trailer for the game dropped I listened to it over and over. Glad that turned out to be the main theme. Amazing work
This is one of those games I praise the music throughout the time I was playing.
2022 and this is still a go to on my playlist when I need grounding and calm. Thank you again for this amazing soundtrack.
Absolute masterpiece. What it means to let go. Max, you nailed it. Thank you for these absolute masterpieces.
What a beautiful gem of a game, at first I was like this looks cool travelling with a giant ship and exploring the world while finding new characters, quests, treasures, Recipes,...etc, but after few hours from starting this journey and after bidding farewell to Gwen , the feelings slowly shifted from joy and excitement to saddness and emptiness
It's rare for me to get emotional after experiencing a fictional form of art, but these stories and characters hit me hard in feelings, and when it was time to lead Stanley for his final rest, I was sobbing and heartaching like it was my little brother 😢
You understand that you are playing in masterpiece when the game makes you change the outlook on life. Thanks Thunderlotus.
Thanks for your art. In many way it changed a part of my life. That why I love art, a morning you wake up, you read a book, watch a movie, you listen to a song and everything is not the same anymore.
I just finished to shoot a short film and even if topics are not related your music is always not too far.
Thanks a lot.
I listen to this soundtrack every day- when I draw, study, do homework, or just for the sake of listening to it!
Just finished the game and I can honestly say aside from the story, the OST is one of the best parts of this game. Absolutely beautiful music from beginning to end.
I hate this, I just only watch the trailer and I'm crying right now...
And I don't have the game yet I'm crying
U will cry even more when u have it!!
Just play it... And learn how to say Goodbye..
This game helped me with the loss of my dad and through some of the really dark coping periods. And the music moved it all along beautifully.
When the strings come back in 😭
The music is so diverse. From beautiful to funny to downright haunting and melancholic. Already looking where I can get the money to buy this game!
I absolutely love this game, it calms me down when I'm stressed, angry or sad.
Geez, I cry every time I hear the theme that plays when saying goodbye… I loved Alice so much
