  • By choosing a studio that measures just 12 feet by 7 feet, Felice Cohen can afford to live in Manhattan's Upper West Side where apartments rent for an average of $3,600 per month.
She pays just over $700 for her 90-square-foot micro-studio. After a bit of adjustment, she now loves living smaller, simpler, and cozier.

Some people work a lot and being a few minutes from work is more than worth it. People like to say taking a train to Manhattan from Queens or Brooklyn is 20 mins. It is not... I live 7 miles from lower Manhattan in Brooklyn and sometimes it takes me over 1.5 hours to get to work via train. By car it's no better either if there's traffic and you get stuck for an hour. If it takes me 1-1.5 hours to go each way for work that's almost 3 hours out of the day spent on commuting.

The difference is that these other places have apartments that are affordable with 10x your space. A large bathroom, a real kitchen and usually a laundry area. But I'm sure Manhattan is worth it. *rolls eyes*

It doesn’t even need to be 10x the size to be waaaay more comfortable. I’m a student (in Finland) and me and many of my friends live alone comfortably in studio apartments that are 2-3x the size of that. But even the single person ”dorm rooms” I’ve lived in weren’t that crammed and were of larger surface area in temselves, and then I had separate regular size community bathrooms and kitchens etc. 😂
