I worked on the last 3 seasons of Andromeda. Those were the golden days of sci-fi television. I remember the show getting wrapped after season 4. Everyone was convinced that was it. Yet the ratings ended up being higher than anticipated, and one more season was commissioned. By then everyone had moved on and didn't want to be there. They were just goofing off. Very little supervision was done on set. VFX shots were getting approved after 1-2 revisions (used to be 3-5) Everything was "good enough". How the show ended up appearing consistent throughout is a total mystery, because we had multiple vendors working with no cross-communication. No design bible. Just winging it. I did a ton of holograms on the show, as well as some weapon FX.
It definitely felt like Season 5 was more like a lower budget spinoff off Andromeda than an actual continuation of season 4. Might've been better if they had done like 10 episodes in season 5, with a bigger budget and a wrap-up to the story.
Correction: Magog dont keep the hosts memories. Only in the one episode where the Humans had that ability, the Magog gained that ability because they keep some of the hosts DNA. No other Magog have that ability other than Rev Bem's children. Rev Bem felt horrible for killing his mother and found Wayism and became a reverend. He no longer kills in honor of his misdeeds to his mother. Also, he doesn't cook salmon, his digestive tract only works when the kill is fresh. He eats salmon raw and probably alive.
Thanks for posting. So happy to see Lexa Doig in the CHUCKY tv series! She played the BEST character on Andromeda. The show was never the same again after they began to succeed in their mission.
I loved the crew of Andromeda of Seasons 1-2 . Extremely diverse with clever ideas and everyone has a point. And dat opening And I never saw Andromeda as ripoff of Farscape of in an way. They're different beasts.
The one thing stopping me from being hooked on Andromeda is Kevin Sorbo. He is wooden and has such a limited range which makes him a VERY bad fit for this Captain role. Now I am a Babylon 5 fan and have heard all the complaints of Michael O'Hare being wooden as Commander Sinclair. However Michael O'Hare runs CIRCLES around Kevin Sorbo in terms of acting.
_Andromeda_ was cool until Kevin Sorbo decided that he had to be in every scene and every plot must revolve around him. Basically when Trance turned from purple to orange there was only one really good episode after that.
This show was more in tune with its parent's, "Star Trek" than with Farscape in my eyes. Lot's of words of wisdom meaning in text before each episodes starts, too. 😁
I'm glad that after the failure of Earth Final Conflict, the second Gene Rodenberry show, Andromeda did much better, especially with Kevin Sorbo as the main character again (despite said main character not being much focused on in the first 2 Seasons), and the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine writer! It's also neat that despite being a direct copy of Farscape, it still managed to have its own identity. I do love the functionality of the Andromeda ship, and the story, as well as the characters.
Always love when Andromeda gets a review-I always feel that Wolf lore and background he created for the show had the potential for it to be a classic of that decade like Battlestar Galactica reboot. Sadly bad home production company (while meant Wolf created a ship/combat more like RL development/projections, it also meant limited CGI shorts and the heavy reliance of the physical set), not the best casting and really extreme fluctuation quality of writers for episodes dragged it down.
I absolutely love Andromeda, even if it does get weird in the final season haha. Its interesting that ST Discovery looks like its using Andromeda as a base for Season 3, and I am 100% behind this idea

While I think sliders and earth final conflict were shows that started out really strong and gradually went bad, I didn’t think andromeda was any good to begin with. I agree. And Kevin Sorbo's politics have really turned me off of getting into his old work and giving it another chance (his new work is all extremely ideological).
Pluto has all 5 seasons and a dedicated channel, and Prime Video lost the first two seasons. I’m still working through Earth Final Conflict, about to hit season 4, but I still have Alias and Stargate Atlantis (and Universe) to get through. Sorbo’s been a bit too much of a backwards mofo for me to want to watch Andromeda though. Maybe this video will convince me
The slipstream isn't all that more complicated than Farscape's wormholes-which are basically the character and plot of the show-or Babylon 5's Second Space (or more, the "third space")
I remember stop watching the show because the commonwealth was so easily formed. It seemed too far fetched in my mind, we can't agree to get along on one planet forget multiplying that by thousands of worlds and some guy from 300 years ago can pull it off in a few seasons. I thought the reformation of the commonwealth was one of the main plot points of the first few seasons so the show became a little rudderless. I still need to complete the series because maybe I was too quick to judgement back then
Andromeda started out ok but as seasons came along it just got more and more out there in terms of crazy story lines to the point i lost interest in it. i think it should have started out before the fall where we got to know the commonwealth and what it was about then have the fall with then rebuilding the commonwealth. but still with the general story line it wasn't going to be the next star trek or star wars as the story line/ back stories wasn't there and not developed enough.
