Revisiting the Philippine History with a Kalesa-ride tour around Intramuros, the historic walled area within the city of Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Intramuros served as the seat of government of the Captaincy General of the Philippines, a component realm of the Spanish Empire, housing the colony's governor-general from its founding in 1571 until 1865, and the Real Audiencia of Manila until the end of Spanish rule during the Philippine Revolution of 1898.
A kalesa or calesa is a two-wheeled horse-drawn carriage used in the Philippines. It is commonly vividly painted and decorated. It was a primary mode of public and private transportation during the Spanish colonial era of the Philippines, though in modern times, they largely only survive as tourist attractions.
In this video, we will tour around Intramuros (the most historical & oldest district in Manila) riding a Kalesa for 1 hour. We will see and experience the Spanish era landmarks of the 15th-18th century Philippines. Our Kalesa driver acts as a tour guide who was very well versed with Intramuros history. In 1 hour, we visited selected landmarks.
