Hey Mike. I don't see the membership link. Where can I find that?
Good point! Sorry about that. I just added it to default so it will be in the description of every video. And here is the link:

I know a lady who lives here in the Portland area, she bought some acreage last year in NE AZ. She drives over there about every 6-8 weeks for about 2 weeks at a time and she's gotten a lot done.
She bought a used travel trailer that will be a guest house down the road but for now it's her primary home there.
She has solar she's put in a road to her place.
She's got 5k water supply.
She has also done a lot of landscaping. I think she's going to get a few containers to build her house.
She's 59 and can do all these things because she works.
It's not like she makes 100k + a year because she doesn't.
She's driven.
But to to all this basically by herself from 1000+ miles away is amazing.
Sounds like a fun adventure
Hopefully someone doesn't tear up her stuff or rob her stuff
What is the name of this channel? It sounds like something I would like.
@@carol07643
She doesn't have a channel she's a friend of mine.
I’d like to have her contact address or whatever link to her. I’m 61, female. I’m in Portland and I was thinking about doing the same thing!
Imagine that, heat in the open sandy desert? Just wait until the snow comes in a couple months. Keep the videos coming 👍😊
Why not build a wooden carport twice as wide as rv for shade, then in winter just pull rv out. Makes sense to me and you could also put a deck on the shaded area
I said this for months now 😅
Probably cost over 10 g's.
That could be one reason.
@@Kayr76 he stated in this video of the $3000-$5000 reasons why he wont be getting that. I'd sure like to see him get something like that!👍
Yeah, but since he wants something removable/retractable, to capture some free heat during the Winter (which is a great idea) that’s definitely gonna require some extra thought/research, especially since it’s gonna be a diy project. It’s too bad all the commercial carport options are so crazy expensive.
yeah i lucked out and got one for 6k installed.its just a shelter but its 17 foot tall,24 feet wide and 40 foot long.i park my class a bounder under it.@__WJK__
You need a roof over your rv. Off grid backcountry adventures had the same problem and has a great example. It's good for winter as well, keeps the snow off the rv roof.
Mike when I was in the military we had the camo netting with umbrella poles to use to camouflage our vehicles. Maybe look into those. We used them in the deserts of Kuwait and Iraq and they held up during sand storms.
Great idea
Check for the cameo netting with poles at an army supply store. That way you'd have great coverage. In winter take it down . Now that's a good idea because he said it worked even in sand storms ect...
What about building an underground house? I hear it those stay at around 68 degrees.
I ripped all my insulation out and re insulated it with super high quality dense foam. Also add vent fans. Use the silver rolls of the same stuff that makes the window screens that block out the sun. Double it up and cut to fit it overnall the windows. Windshield in direct sunlight will go up to 140f. I have three vent fans and wow wht a difference. Also added two semi truck dash fans to blow the heat away from the windsheild area Doing all that brought my temps down inside massively. I wish you luck with all this your doing. Glad to see theres others out there still trying to figure all this stuff out.
I use to live in Kingman AZ and rest assured the heat only last a few months...You will LOVE Fall, winter and spring !!!
I heard that about Kingman AZ. It surely is underestimated. Less expensive than Flagstaff?
@@philipweltman9095 DEF less expensive than Flagstaff but the DRUGS there are ALL OVER ...METH !!! SO SAD !!!
@@philipweltman9095 one thing about Kingman is IT'S A DRY HEAT !!! Not Humid at all !!!but when i lived there from 1996 to 2002 ,one august in 96 it was 128 for 1 week, cooled down to 112 at night !!!!!! ARGHHHHH !!!
Yuk!!
I think I'll stay in Colorado.. lol
It is super hot everywhere this year, and winter will come … give yourself time to adjust. Hat off, cool tie around neck, add a couple fans. Hang in there, you are not alone.
I was going to comment the same thing. It's hot all over and I don't think there's any escaping it this year
people who put on black hats and black shirts that just absorb all the heat from the sun make me wonder why they think they are so hot compared to if they wore white to reflect the heat.
Bedouins in the desert wear black robes. Don't know what the reason is 🤔
Add 40% shade cloth from lows or home depo
You crack me up😅! Thx for the chuckles😊 🙋🛻🇨🇦❤️‼️
Good news is... Its about to start getting cooler! 😁
I would suffer for privacy over dealing with neighbors anyday. Did 10 years in a van and am now living in an apartment and it sucks.
Generally, the motivation for having a job, to create a more comfortable life for ourselves.
Hey, Mike have you thought about renting a wood chipper. You could chip all that dead wood and limbs and spread the chippings around the RV. Just a suggestion. Might help with the heat😅
It will be cool soon. That sky looks beautiful.😊
If you don’t protect your eyes in that bright sun you may have to pay for it later. Please wear sunglasses 🕶️ all the time outside and take them off when filming so we can see you. Also stay hydrated so you don’t get sunstroke.
FYI... this might be why you have no neighbors!!!
You can make a solar panel awning, have shade for your front porch while powering your AC all in one
We moved into our rv last November. One thing that does help with heat is i hung blackout thermal curtains from command hooks over the main door, 2 between the driver area and living area and cut one and hung it over the bedroom window where the sun beats down. I can keep the inside about 78 on the days that it is over 100. In winter we put the purple insulation board around the bottom using foil tape that doesnt leave residue on the rv
How could you not anticipate the heat in a desert?
It’s the sand that’s doing it. I live at about 7000 feet above where Mike lives so I don’t have as much sand in my soil. I camped many years in the sand dunes and I remember what the heat reflection does so I can imagine what the snow is gonna be like.
Amazing...hot in the desert in August. Whudda thunk it?
You're not alone... im just starting out too. Its overwhelming at times, but this is the fun part. We'll get there! 😊
Once you learn the best way to beat the heat, let me know. Central Florida in August is no joke. Thankful for AC because I realize it is just a human convenience. I loved the Truck and slide-in camper combo. Would be cool to see you traveling in something like that again. I have lots of ideas on how I would do things on an Arizona desert property, but I think you have better ones so I'll just watch and learn 😜
I should really make a video on what works and what doesn't. In fact, I think I will.
I agree with you. The sand and land seemingly make the heat feel like it's coming from all directions.
Your property is beautiful, Mike. You just moved. It's going to take time to figure out exactly what you need most and then how you want to go about it. It's always fun watching you go about it and I'm sharing your videos everywhere I can think of. And believe me, autumn will be coming soon enough and we'll all be trying to figure out how to stay warm...
Dude your house moves make a summer parking spot in the bushes or under something and a winter parking spot you have the property to do it.
Attitude of gratitude goes a long way! Thanks for the reminder 😊
Hi Mike I think it's one of those summers! I'm in FL and helped a friend build scooters outside his (un-air conditioned) shop this morning. Even with a cooler of gatorade me and hubs didn't last more than two hours. It was crazy hot outside feeling delirious and of course disgusting! Remember to take it slow brother :) The seasons will change soon and remember how much to appreciate it ! Take care I look forward to more adventures from you. Oh and I think the camo thingie looks cool and every bit helps for sure.
I dunno Mike it might be hot but I really love the land you bought
Your gonna need a mini split! Especially in this heat! Lighting probably hit it!
Yep 😮 The desert gets hot in the summer. Did you not know this? 😊
I moved out here in 2018 and the first couple of years I would move the RV.. One spot for summer under a shade structure and one spot for winter out from under it.. Now I live in my cabin.. Just remember even in Montana it is over 100 degrees,, so you ain't getting out of it..
Make a room in the ground. Dig about 15 feet deep. Put a roof on it. Get some air vents like for a grow room. Put some lights down there. You will stay cool
I feel you , North Carolina has had some really high heat indexes and Fall will be appreciated. You are in a learning curve. We live in a mobile home and on hot days , we stay under heat advisory up until 8pm . We are slowly becoming vampires . Staying out of the heat. My dad was a farmer and i dont remember it being this hot during the summer.
Time go Dowsing for water. Start at the bottom of your downslope of property. Then at top elevation of your property....Once you got a find....start pounding down some galvanized 2" pipe.....then its time to plant winter grass.......Draw back with grass.......snakes love it...
I started to watch your video today, "Does desert mean heat?". It played for a couple of minutes, then wouldn't play because it's "private". I take it this is meant for your "paid" subscribers. I think that's pretty rude. I don't donate to you, or pay for content because of your attitude. I started watching you when you showed up at Campervan Kevin's. I like him, so I thought his friend might be okay. I guess I'm supposed to pay up so I don't miss out. If I were your mother, ( and I'm certainly old enough), I would tell you that your greedy attitude is not helpful. I've watched a couple of the live videos, and, when you stop to check your PayPal balance, it makes me want to unsubscribe, not donate. I like your snarky attitude about life, but, I want to remind you that none of us needs to watch your channel. I wish you well with your new property, but, I know an abusive relationship, (for lack of a better term), when I see it.
104 here in Texas. I am feeling it!
Ditto NM😅
You should set some four by fours on both sides of your home… taller than the home, run a two by four across the top on both sides… look for cami canvas that is more obscure…. And tent the home….For the summer. Hope the wind doesn’t blow it away
I'm in North Texas we bought 5 acre piece of land with a house on it but from the start of June untill mid September we do very little i'm from the Uk and theres no way im doing without AC in a 110 deree heat . Even my 5yr old grandson who hates being stuck in refuses to go out in this heat. Plz take care
Crazy temps. Stay hydrated, and out of that sun. 🙂👍
It'llget better. Maybe your winter will be milder. Dig a cellar for the summer heat. Put a camera above it so you don't feel so cooped 7p.
Sand is small rocks, rocks hold heat...You might have to invest in a dehumidifier for the RV. All across the nation, the weather is crazy. The heat does damage on your RV and your car, the interior, the tires, etc. Not to mention you, so be careful, clear out a tree for shade to park your car under. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Quit looking at the thermometer since that's causing it to go higher.
build a sturdy frame and use all the wood branches you have around your land to build a shade .sort of like coyote fencing..but for a roof. Native Americans build them on the Pueblos....
Yes, the heat of Arizona can be intense, but the fall and spring will be more tolerable. We have bare property in western New Mexico at about 7000 feet. This year (July / August) has just been brutal for heat; longer periods of the number of days than I can recall from past years. Can you re-adjust the location of the RV for Summer, then move it more into the sun for Winter? Also, windshield barriers for both the RV and your car will help some with the temperature. 11 p.m. is a beautiful time in the desert! Enjoy your life.
Mike, put down alot of gravel. Sand is micro glass with alot of reflectivity. Rock gravel does not.
Sorry about the heat and humidity. Hopefully, it will cool off soon. The sand radiating heat will be good for the winter.
Yes it will@ And thanks for joining!
You need $50-$100,000 to do a homestead right, otherwise you will end up with heatstroke!!! No one was meant to liv in the desert without 100% A/C!!! Just be CAREFUL!!!
Hey Mike missed you today. It’s been two days. I hope all is well! Love what your planning for your new property!
Love your life, been following u since day one I get yiou
Get a carport with either roll-up sides or removable panels. Or just leave the side panels off. In the winter the sun will be lower in the south so what is protected in the summer could be exposed in the winter.
Mike, a carport would work regardless, because you can just pull the RV out during the winter to get sun to help heat the RV.
Gut it out until fall and cooler temps. Plan on traveling next summer to cooler climes.
I am at 4700 ft in So AZ and it's hot and humid here too..stupid hot having a good monsoon season. Cooler weather on the way.
The value of shade! The things we take for granted you’ll figure it out as long as you don’t toast first!lol
Ok, no carport, what about more shade cloth and or surround your rv with carpet to prevent the sun from bouncing off the sand? You can probably find some used stuff cheap and it’s easy to move when you want to move.
I enjoyed today's video, but holy cow, it looks hot. I've never seen anyone keep a Wi-Fi gizmo kept in the freezer. Brilliant idea!
Glad you enjoyed it
With all the sun a bigger battery bank would let you get a bigger or 2nd air unit and use electric heat and save propane also, good thing to do first on the new place.
Mike,
Was your AC running?
I know everyone knows everything 🤓 but would some darker gravel laid all around your Rv help? But I know it cost $$$. Great videos!
Paul & Nancy
You should have a white long sleeve shirt
Yeah the sun + humidity = 🥵
I hear ya ! Cant wait til fall & winter!!!👍✌️
There’s no doubt bro that a big metal roof would be your answer! possible you can save for it😊 plus they create like a Venturi effect
MIKE: GET THAT CAMPER BACKED INTO A SPOT WHERE YOUR TREES ARE. THAT WAY YOU'LL HAVE SOME SHADE. THEN YOUR SHADE CAMO ON THE OTHER SIDE. SOMETHING LIKE THAT. ❤😊
You are right not to leave them unattended ever! I live in the UK and last month a young couple died in a fire from a scooter over heating. They leave a young baby behind.
This summer has been relentless across the whole four corners region. Never been so looking forward to fall. If you are not going to move the RV it seems like it would make sense to find a well-insulated travel trailer like an Arctic fox or bigfoot which would do better in cold and hot and not have an engine just there wasting away from not being used.
I'd love to get a tiny home here. All things in time. Insulate it like a madman!
Hey, also even the lizards hide from the sun until dusk!
I’m thinking the heat killed the tree , grab your shade cloth from your other property , it’s 59 degrees this morning wooooooo!! , you’re fricken funny 😂
I have MS , and I’m running out of time to enjoy life and the land we bought. I envy you 😊 I hate the winter weather in Wisconsin it hurts my lungs and body.
Truly sorry to hear that. I hope you get out there and enjoy as much as you can! And I hope watching me helps some. Take care and God bless you.
You had a great set up at Slab City. Kinda odd you aren't copying that build.
Your next big investment should definitely be in a good size carport to cover the RV and a little bit more
Think about getting a couple of flag poles and put some shade sails up
You have a giant sand battery, producing radiant heat . We use this technology for green houses up north
I've seen those. That's a pretty good idea thank you for the reminder!
i`ve herd it unseasonable warm this year out there and in the east. you are blessed
I live in a van in Texas I don't know what the outside temp is but inside the van is109 °
temperture is almost over with its been 111 to 122 for a few months im not complaining , yall
Keep a wet towel around your neck, it really helps a lot.
Arizona is a dry heat. Unless its been raining a lot.
Yes.... yes it is...
Use some of the free materials on your land. Make your own Navajo Shade House/port. Think outside the box. Good luck 🤞
You may want to consider building a roofed structure you can pull your vehicle under. You could also build an awesome patio area. This way the sun hits the carport roof and not your RV. Just a suggestion. If it snows this will provide add protection too.
Who could have guessed that a place like this would be hot!
Thanks for sharing
I think I’d look for a summer spot for the RV that at least gets partial shade and then full sun spot for the winter. Just a thought
Light colored hat and shirt will keep you cooler than that black you been wearing g too!...
looking good another shade thingie onth other side too! it will be cooling down soon...looking good !!!
The carport answer: it’s a RV; you can move it under carport or out as season requires 😜
You ain't in Phoenix, baby so count your blessings. 😂
You should try North Carolina around Maggie Valley it’s close to Asheville in the mountains in the summer. Not hot it’s around 79 during the day and low 60s evening morning and at night. God bless
Hello, You should buy a modular home on you property.
Hey Mike, you don’t know me but I think I was behind you today on the 61. I’m gonna say about noonish somewhere around there. I was in a red Mustang convertible behind you. Just wanted to say hi that’s it if it was you!😊
Your not alone ❤
I was thinking about it....why not get one of those hard side above the ground pools (blue)? I had a friend buy a good sized one from Walmart and her and her family used it for years with zero leaks. A small solar system would run the filter, they would cool down at night and during the day you could cool off. If you had to, you could filter the water to drink it. You could have a truck deliver the water and use a floating pool cover to help stop evaporation. Would this not work?
Thanks!
Keep on keeping on brother
I live in southern Arizona and this is by far our worst month. It should pass within the next few weeks. Then again... climate change... hopefully that can work for us instead of against us...lol ❤...
Hi Mike, another great video, man I love them all. And dude, mostly I live love your sense of humor, you are so funny to me. I can imagine just how fun it would be sitting with you and your friend Jack? I think it's his name, man when you guys get together, sooo funny, love you guys. Also I'm following your friend that's been helping you with his truck..( I forget) . Anyway my friend please keep em coming. Blessings.❤
I would think that moving to a new place will take time to develop the land as you have to be there awhile to assess what is the best for your time and resources. Looking forward to seeing what you do in the next couple of months to make homesteading more comfortable.
We bought land by Stanford store I hope it’s not that hot where we are lol , I know it’ll be hot it’s a desert of course but the temperature always says 82 to 92 degrees that’s responsible.
