The problem is we have got far too many tax loop holes; If you live here in the UK all earnings and investments including off shore accounts should all be taxed with no off settings helped by accountants. Paying your taxes helps this country to grow with better living standards and a prosperous society. However what we have at the moment is dog eat dog and be happy your living in a crumbling Britain that's getting worse.
There is no incentive to do well in the uk which is why entrepreneurs leave. Even the middle class get squeezed so much in this country smd they are not rich by any means. The country could save a fortune by stopping paying for migrants in hotels ans halving foreign aid.
No. Business will invest if they think the money will be taxed if they ever want to leave, this government are absolutely useless,it’s scary how bad they are
They should just be subject to nominal tax thresholds. So additional rate tax payers, 45% of anything above £125k. So 444m shouldn’t it be 199m not 167m? 30m missing somewhere 🤷♂️
@@nicolaprosser8379 Because there's a curve. If you're taxed nothing, then you have high incentive towork, if your taxed 100% you won't worry at all. So somewhere between 0 and 100 as tax percentage goes up tax income rises. But there's a point where at the top of the curve the more you raise taxes the less tax revenue you receive. Sometimes it's best to have less taxes as you'll make more money. No different to any business, I could sell carrots at 100k each, but would make no money as no one would buy Or sell them at 5p and have people actually buy them
Thatcher believed everyone should pay some tax even if nominal, because it gives them a stake in Society rather than building an underclass that expects only to receive. I think she had a point as she did on most things, she also believed share ownership etc should be more broadly based so that more shared in the wealth of the nation. Unfortunately most are inclined to sell for short term profit. That’s fine but it is also moral hazard to treat that choice broadly in life the same as those who do the hard yards to build their wealth. Yes, many achieve it unfairly in many ways and often by luck but to cut all down on that basis is truly cutting off your nose to spite.. and there is a deal of spite in this political ideology.
Harmon achieving new levels of mealy mouth, a ‘fair tax’ system. Don’t think we can’t hear the nonsense Harriet. Yes we all want a fair tax system, most of us want others to pay more and us to pay less. Let’s cut to the chase, taxes are already far too high, there is VAT, income tax, NI, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, stamp duty, etc etc and etc. Any country should be able to run and look after the disadvantaged with that level of tax, in fact less. BUT we all recognise we’ve spent too much for years and the money wasted in political panic across the spectrum, everywhere except perhaps Sweden.. on Covid was the last and final straw so taxes must rise and Government spending must be made realistic again. The real problem is that people who have striven to make a success for themselves and created wealth know that this Government doesn’t respect their hard earned. To this political class, wealth made in commerce is somehow always dirty, must have been made unfairly and abusively rather than through talent, motivation, energy and drive and indeed risk-taking. Wealth and power should be made after all through political influence and hierarchy. This is the tax the rich, tax wealth, tax financial transactions mindset. But we know and yet have forgotten that this not only drives people away in the short term, it drives talent away for the long term and it drives investment away also. Who now would choose to invest in the UK over let’s say it’s neighbour Ireland when this attitude is clear and covered only by the thin veneer that is the time limited Starmer, underneath lies old, looney Labour.
The problem is that a lot of people here on social media who does next to nothing in this life and lives off freebies would always come in to shout tax the rich more with zero knowledge about its implications. They believe these guys are the reason they are poor when many of them won’t look themselves in the mirror and admit they are quite lazy ass who have chosen only to receive. I know there are people who really need help but it makes my heart bleed everyday that I’m working off my ass to pay for some of these lassitudes. Well won’t be forever. There are better countries to move to.
Good riddance to them it’s was the same with quite a few people such as Billy Connoly. Sean connnery Peale that loves Scotland and Britain but left because of the taxes. Now they are old now they come back How much money did they make and save living overseas
Of course we should. Those freeloaders need to stop getting away with it. My salary last year was 15k and had to pay £690 in tax. I’m sure the millionaires don’t pay the same percentage as me.

How much you're "worth" is different from profit.
And they are subject to the same tax threshold and laws as everyone else.
Massive mistake by Starmer.....The rich will leave our UK.🇬🇧
Good because they don't pay taxes here anyway. Why should they use our services if they don't pay tax. Why should we the tax payers pay their share.

Good, they pay less tax than someone on average earnings

Horrible idea.
only in one type of tax, you pay tax on anything you buy, insurance, car tax and council tax too.
Loop holes galore for the rich
Paying 10% is not “paying a lot.” This is a ridiculous segment.
The usual drivel from the ever- talented Harriet, confusing wealth with income.
