Ronnie Van Zant wrote some great lyrics. This song is so well written that you can literally see the whole story in your mind, it's like a scene in a movie. Memorable, hilariously funny, and easy to sing along with, really doesn't get better than that for rock and roll lyrics.
Rest easy Gary. A huge contributor to the American song book. A founder of southern rock and founding member of the greatest southern rock band of all time.
Had some Jacksonville in Oulu back in the days. Day I wont forget. Altho ZZ Top was supposed to be there too, they missed it. But Skinnard was fkn awesome =)
I first saw the original Lynyrd Skynyrd lineup open for Black Sabbath winter 1974/1975 at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, NY. I was a senior in High School and they were in their twenties. AMAZING .. I’ve followed them ever since
Even after a plane crash that killed the lead singer and others, Ronnie Van Zant's baby brother Johnny taking over lead vocals, and many other band member tragedies and deaths, Lynyrd Skynyrd is still the greatest Rock N Roll Band ever in my opinion.
Just in case you've been wondering what the definition of "rock and roll" is, its not the bubble gum garbage you've been hearing on the radio for the past several years, it's THIS!!!!!!
more like last 30+ years since the 90's Rock N Roll (in the name of the label) is just becoming more and more garbage labeling it as Rock and the music is trash. Gimme Three Steps Baby and you'll never see me no more.. Lynyrd Skynyd for Life
I legit saw them last night a few hours ago. It is currently 1:22 in the morning where I am in south Dakota and they were amazing. This song was definitely a highlight
When they are sitting in an interview they look old, but when they hit the stage the transformation is a miracle. They are once again in their 20s and rockin it like they were several decades ago. The blank spots are filled with others but you can feel the "Others" presence and Backing them Up. We can't see Ronnie, Allen and the others, but they are there none the less
+Judith Magill I don't know about hallucinating, but the bass player here is Johnny Colt. Yes, I had to look that up. Dusty Hill is still, and always has been, with ZZ Top. :)
I loved Lynyrd Skynyrd and I still do I'm going to tell him a 1973 weeks for any of them got killed plane crash and they were fantastic and I got to see him afterwards and they were still asleep. So people just have to know your music
Absolutely, positively, definitely , the best "Rock N Roll" jam ever recorded. Were , are and always will be the ultimate buzzz!

Saw 'em in Tucson a few months back, oh hell what a concert. EVERY AGE, gender, color, nationality, YOU NAME IT. Bikers, CEO's, common people, people wearing diamonds and gold, what a variety. Damn it was good!!!
I was born in 1990, many years after the tragedy took place BUT Skynyrd has been and always will be my favorite band of all time. I grew up listening to the classics, but the first time I heard Sweet Home Alabama, I was hooked. Especially since I was born and raised in Alabama!
It's amazing all the transformations that Skynryd has been through that they have been able to keep Ronnies legacy goin all these years!! It mind boggling.
I love 'em. I just saw them a few weeks ago. I saw the original Skynyrd back in 1977. I got no beef with Johnny Van Zant. He is Family, and Gary Rossington is worth the price of admission to me. They are all great musicians. A Powerful Show.
Powerful is an understatement lol. The show I went to (Simpsonville 2017 a few days ago with Marshal Tucker band) was the loudest and most clean sounding rock concert I've ever been to. That was an incredible auditory experience. Pure Rock N' Roll from the south.
Agreed 150% my wife and I got meet n greet tickets to the Tuscaloosa Alabama show 2 weekend ago and as you said Gary Rossington is worth every single penny, he is such a humble man to his fans, he signed my Gibson SG pick guard for me and talk to me as if he known me for years, he is one man that I'll never forget meeting, Gary Rossington is the Gibson guitar GOD, God Bless Gary Rossington!!!!
The original lineup or todays lineup the music is still being played to many fans. In my point of view the original lineup would be damn proud to have their music played the way they wanted and to be as close to the original as it can be. I will see them as many times as I can cause its good music that lost compared to nowadays
It's 2023 and a friend of mine just told me that the remaining member of Lynyrd Skynyrd passed away so tonight is a tribute night I'm going to post as many videos as I can
Went to see them in Ga with my son and three grandchildren, 16, 10 and 7 and they knew all of the songs by heart. We had a blast and they will never forget it. Great show.
2023 and I just found out from a good friend at the last remaining member of the band just passed away. Did you know that they were 39 different musicians who played with the original for musicians who played as teenagers in 1967, under a different name
Am not American am just 20yo And I love this band I feel strange when I see those audience its like the younger of them is about 50yo I hope I'll find more fans for this band from my generation just to keep the freebird and Ronnie spirit alive after those great guys✊✊
This band is tight. I believe it’s their best yet! Not to take away anything, but for one that new bass player is the Man. Totally Bad Ass, All these guys incredibly tight group.!!!!

One more Southern Rock icon gone but never forgotten.
This is one of the greatest southern rock bands in my opinion.
The alpha and omega of Southern Rock. Noone on God's green earth brings it Like Skynyrd.
