  • Visit www.softroadingthewest.com/diamond-peak for photos, map, and full write-up of this excursion. This video is an overview of an excursion in the central Oregon Cascades southeast of Oakridge.
I've tried to step up the game another level here, now using "real" video editing software instead of the glitchy open-source editor I was using previously. Gone are the the static-y artifacts in the audio and the stuttering of the video. I was however on my own for this one so the footage is maybe a little less dynamic that the Jack Creek video. Hopefully the step up in quality makes up for it a bit.
The main purpose of this channel is to supplement the stories at softroadingthewest.com and to show what you might expect at some of the places we've visited in Oregon beyond what still photos can capture. For practical tips and insights on softroading or overlanding in your crossover (as some call it: crossoverlanding) such as a Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV, etc., I recommend visiting JonDZ Adventuring's channel / @jondz_adventuring Jon has a really nice, growing collection of softroading videos which are both useful and entertaining.

Thanks for the shoutout Donald! Loved the video, you are putting that 1 inch lift to use! It’s so green out there. Nothing but desert and Forest fires in So Cal.

Thanks for sharing this! I’m interested in exploring this area. Do you think a stock 2018 Outback with some Yokohama Geolandar G015 tires would be able to handle this?

Certainly do-able depending on your comfort level. It's all easy well-graded gravel until you get to the tiny little lakes just west of Summit Lake, then the road becomes dirt & rock and presents a few challenges. This was the most fun part of the trek however, from that point all the way to Crescent Lake. Air down your tires, try a different line if the first attempt doesn't work, and be prepared to use a little momentum in a few spots. This stretch going along those little lakes, then the north shore of Summit Lake, and then eastward on to Crescent Lake remains one of my favorite drives ever.
