"Does their sexual chemistry translate over to their combat chemistry" I think it's more of a reference to what Faith said about Slaying. Buffy's past her yogurt phase.
I think Giles is less concerned with the actual cash and more hurt by the fact that he was trying to have a genuine conversation with Spike and he just blew him off. Taking the cash back was just… petty revenge for that. Also, yes. Tara is absolutely adorable and sweet. I love that they assume that the tracer has been flushed whenever vampires literally spend 98% of the time in the sewers? Like, they bought it was more believable that he was running at them in broad daylight than that he slipped into the seres somewhere.
they assumed it was flushed because of the speed. it never made sense that the vampire was moving that quickly even without the broad daylight, but they trusted their equipment and hadn't figured out yet what it was telling them. once they made the leap to the signal coming from underground, they realized what must have happened.
Walsh trying to turn Buffy's death into a morality tale for Riley about sticking with the team and not questioning orders is so funny because the the blatant manipulation, it's so telling about her character.
Walsh saw Buffy in action, but still doesn't know her full capabilities so seriously underestimated her. She said it took several of her top men to take out those same demons. She then had them armed, and sent Buffy into a trap with a faulty weapon, that would likely injure her. She also doesn't know how great Buffy is at improvising, which Buffy did by electrocuting the monsters instead of fighting them 2 to one. So yes, she underestimated Buffy, but one can see how she could think that was enough. I don't think it was just Riley getting Buffy into the initiative. I think Walsh wanted Buffy in, and did not plan to kill her back then. It was only when Buffy kept asking questions and Walsh saw that she was not going to be a good little soldier and just follow orders, and then watching her on video, she saw Buffy asking about 314. That's when she knew she was a threat to her, rather than a tool she could use.
"she did train with the slayer, right? this seems unbelievably naive." buffy was careful not to seriously hurt anyone. walsh thought she was going all-out. big mistake.
"They both seem to just light each other up, and be instantly happy around each other" - what a great description of Willow and Tara! EDIT: And that's a very good point about the lack of understanding of human behavior by the psychology professor! "But if you see this chart..." - HA!
I think Walsh assumed she could treat Buffy just like one of her soldiers, keeping her in the dark while she seriously added to their demon-collecting activities. She obviously sees her agents as her personal tools who will always be exactly what she needs them to be (definite classic villain megalomania there). Then Buffy sleeps with Riley and Walsh is NOT happy about that, and then starts asking awkward questions, and then when Buffy mentions 314 Walsh decides she's a threat. And being the arrogant person she is, she never questions that she'll be able to easily dispose of the problem.
i love tara. shes the sweetest character. walsh on the other hand is totally creepy and evil. civvies isnt just casual clothes, it means civilian clothes rather than uniform. its a common military term.
I think Buffy said it best when she told Walsh "you really don't know what a Slayer is", she may have seen Buffy in action but never really comprehended her power. Notice Willow comes back to the dorm after being out all night carrying the doll's eye crystal, the same one that earlier she didn't feel comfortable taking from Tara. 🤔🤔She also uses that crystal in the ionization spell for Spike.
It’s nice to see Buffy happy for a change. Finally, she could share that huge responsibility with someone and not to fight all the evil alone. I was pissed that Willow and Xander weren’t happy for her, but it’s very realistic.
A good episode. I like that Buffy understands the demon world compared to the Initiative. Buffy treating patrolling with the soldiers like she would with the Scoobies is fun.
Professor Walsh's plan to tell Riley that Buffy was dead might have worked better if she had turned off the monitors, but then she actually believed that Buffy was dead and didn't consider turning them off.
For the longest time, the narrative was that the actress that played Walsh wanted to be written off. *Then she did an interview on a podcast stating that she was supposed to be the big bad and halfway through the season Joss came to her and said yeah we're killing you off. She would have liked to have stayed.
Note that this was the third time that Buffy has had sex--at all, not just what we've seen--and the first where the other individual was still in the bed when she woke up the next morning.
You know, this was always one of the episodes that made me question the morality of killing demons. Yes, they're selfish and enjoy hurting people, but if Spike is any indication, they can learn to supress those instincts to get what they want... which doesn't make them that different, morality-wise, to many people...
That’s because they are not pure demons as Anya mentioned in one of the episodes, they are halfbreeds, only the Mayor was the pure one. So I guess you are right!
eh, he received two salaries (one from the council and one from the school) and has always seemed pretty thrifty. we don't know how much he has in savings but he doesn't seem concerned about needing to find another job.
"Is it a tracker?" The commando literally said that hostile 17 had been tagged after he shot Spike, in a segment you showed! Dude... :D "Is it irony, or poetic justice, or both?" Both. But I wouldn't say the Initiative is evil - I would say it is, like many government secret operations, a good tool or a bad tool depending on who's in charge. And the Initiative has taken a lot of demons out of play, whether killed or captured. I have no doubt that more civilians would be dead without the Initiative's presence. Meanwhile, whatever Adam is, Prof. Walsh is no longer in charge...
@@TheMrsWatcher I think (since the chip works partly off of intent) that throwing the groceries was intended as a distraction rather than him actually trying to do damage.

“Happy for Willow” Yes, we all are. But I doubt very much happened behind that door but magic. Of course their magic translates as much more than just magic. And you’ll quickly find out just how blatant the writers can be with that metaphor if it isn’t obvious enough. But yes, happy for Willow. She deserves someone when Buffy has Riley and Xander has Anya. That was Willow’s whole thing with the “spanking” line. She’s feeling lonely and unwanted since Oz left. But Tara makes her happy. Makes her feel wanted. And that’s great for her. They’re a cute little couple 🥰
Another great reaction. On the subject of Willow and Tara - Don't forget at the time this was airing it was around 2000... It wasn't as easy to come to terms with one's sexuality, never mind be out about it... The fact that they went there at all was rather ground breaking. I won't say more on that for fear of spoilers. Anya Spike and Tara all becoming more central in the series at this time makes me enjoy this era of Buffy, even though I am among the fans who didn't enjoy the whole Riley phase Buffy went through 😁 Fairly recent subscriber and loving your content 😎
Walsh was supposed to be the main villain for the entire season. Unfortunately the actress had to leave midway through due to scheduling conflicts, so the writers had to kill her off. She and her creation Adam are intentionally based on Dr Frankenstein and his monster.
that is unfortunately just an unconfirmed fan myth. Lindsay Crouse had nothing scheduled at the time that the production team wasn't already aware of when they hired her. From Douglas Petrie : "It's very much a Frankenstein story wherein someone creates a monster and then the monster is out of their control. That's what this was. We knew from the beginning that Maggie Walsh was going to be killed by her own creation. Then we got Lindsay Crouse, the great Lindsay Crouse. This is the episode where sadly she shines the most and this is her best episode. As often happens, just when things really start cooking, they've got to go. She's one of the bigger names that we've gotten on the show and we know that we had her for a limited time, so there was a practical consideration as well. It's very much in the vein of Frankenstein's monster and we felt it essential that the first thing the monster do is kill its creator - to hand over the baton as it were and give someone else the villain's mantle for season four."
Posting my BUFFY REWATCH recap for ‘The I In Team’. May contain spoilers. A bit of advice: If you’re interested in courting someone you like... if they offer a gift to you... don’t refuse it no matter how valuable or sentimental it may be. Why? A refusal equals a rejection. The gift-giving portion of a relationship going into romantic territory is very important. A straight up refusal is a straight up rejection of that romance even if you don’t want it to be. Accept the gift the first time it is offered to you or you might find that what you want never happens as you’ve scared them off due to your unintentional rejecting of them. Fortunately, Willow does accept the crystal later when she meets up with Tara in her bedroom, once again. And this makes a whole lot of difference to the way Tara behaves around Willow from then on. She’s much more forthright with her. Willow’s acceptance of Tara’s gift is the acceptance of a romance happening between them. Tara now knows Willow is interested in taking their relationship beyond friendship and therefore isn’t as shy around her because she knows her advances and her flirting (however meek) is reciprocated. If you pay attention, you’ll notice they’re much more comfortable and confident around each other in the scenes that they have together going forward.
Always thought offing Walsh was too much of a left field bad move. Not only do they do away with the established character and bring in a new villain whom we dont know, but it also removed the interpersonal relations. Then there is Adam.... likely the weakest of the big bads of the whole show, you could put him along side with Season 6 big bad but at least they did something of significance.
Walsh wanted buffy on her team but after she saw them sleeping together she got pissed because she was worried he might listen to buffy not her anymore basically she was definitely jealous 🤣
Terra is precious and must be protected at all costs... Anyway, I really like this episode, though I do think this season has the weakest seasonal arc. It's not the writers's fault entirely, as the actress who played professor Walsh quit mid season, meaning they had to kill her off like they did. It's... annoying, but I like the season overall regardless. At least, it has some of my favorite Buffy episodes. You've already watched some, but there are some other gems later in the season, too.
Listening to your review. I prefer to think of Walsh as a bit autistic. Buffy told her she was lucky.... To beat the troop, Walsh took that at face value. That's why she thought 2 demons with axes and a broken gun would work. I think she also didn't understand that Buffy was holding back in order to not permanently injure the soldiers. In addition. I don't think she truly understands that Buffy has fought 100's if not thousands of demons in hand to hand combat and won almost every time.
Buffy outing what Walsh did to Riley while showing off her badass side is an epic moment for her character.
"Does their sexual chemistry translate over to their combat chemistry"

Notice how every time Buffy sleeps with someone for the first time, she wakes up alone in red sheets. (Angel, Parker) This time she is not alone
@@B-Dad he didn’t want to have to wake up with Buffy.
One of the best things about this episode is Buffy destroys that super expensive video equipment that Walsh originally didn't want her to touch. Lol.

"Spike needs that cash. He saved your life" True, but now Giles and them are saving his, so it's a fair trade back.
Also, Spike was exploiting him for money in a pinch. This is also fair. If that's the terms you want to engage on, live with those terms.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the season. Can't even imagine experiencing Buffy and Angel for the first time again. You're lucky man.

"Everyone's getting spanked but me" has got to be my all time favorite Willow line.
I had forgotten this line, and I blurted out "Willow! I didn't know you were into that!"
And delivered in such a cutely forlorn manner considering it's a sexual reference. 😄
I've always been partial to "You two are the two who are the two!"

With her choice of partners, I'm not too surprised. None of them seem like the spanking type.
