  • The Golden State Warriors have a lot of self-evaluating to do in the 2024 offseason after a disappointing campaign that ended with a play-in game loss. In addition to roster construction and subpar player performances, there's been blame placed on Head Coach Steve Kerr. Kylen Mills and KNBR producer and host Greg Silver evaluate his coaching performance and how much of the criticism is warranted. Can Steve Kerr adapt and lead this team into the next era? They discuss on this episode.

I didnt see enough reactiveness from Kerr last year . Kerr makes young players break through walls to get playing time while he plays his vets no matter what and gives them every opportunity in the world. Also playing small lineups is something The Warrior fan base has had enough of.

I’m fine with playing small if you have young and athletic players to do that. You can’t just go small, old, and not athletic. Replace CP3, saric, looney, and klay with younger/athletic players and I’m good with it. And replace wiggs with JK in the starting lineup

I think as a coach and teacher Steve Kerr is a great spokesperson for talented veterans. He’s not really the guy to be on the bench as the core of former champions age out and the nucleus of a younger cast takes the reigns. I think some kind of President of Basketball Operations position needs to be created to ease him out of the position he’s currently in.

The problem with Wiggins is lower on my list because he is who has been his whole career. It’s unfair to blame him for not changing. We should have seen this coming. Problem 1a) Green fighting everyone he can get his hands on; 1b) Kerr investing more time in developing Jeremy Lamb and Corey Joseph over Moody and JK, and Kerr was the last person in the planet to realize Klay needed to get benched, and then he went back to what didn’t work by moving Klay to the starting lineup for the play-in game, and we all know how that turned out.

Let’s get serious. Kerr is playing small ball, in and athletic bigs league with young legs. Kerr leaned on office for every move last 3 years! Kylen why does it sound like you are singing a different song now, when compared to during the season. You was more critical of Kerr and his coaching decisions. This guy admitted he is friends with Kerr so I can't expect him to give blame where it ultimately belongs.
Every issue he raised the coaching should have addressed them.
If the vets are not performing. Play the young guys. When your old plays are no longer working try other things. At the end of the day it is basketball.
Kerr does more damage to young players than helped them.
The management have to check him when he is doing his junk. Bob selected good young players but he does not know how to use them.
This will be another year of woes and excuses.

She still criticizing Kerr but isnt emotionally unstable about it like he's the worst coach ever and those 4 chips never happen like Cy does. lol Cy literally said Kerr wasnt a big part of the bulls championship and Warriors only won chips because of the core group like creating a superteam is guaranteed win which has been proven to be wrong.

Kerr was stubborn to play the vet and not develop the RC; but Kuminga, Brandin and TJD play time last year was good. Hope Moody will be in Warrior future and Dunleavy will hire a good defense coach like Mike Brown who now is Sac HC to help Kerr since Kerr is a good motivator but needs good fundamental coachs to help him execute the “right” plays.

Steve Kerr belongs to the school of Phil Jackson in game coaching technique, let the high IQ talented players play and figure it out real time ,that only works when you have those specific players on the court. As the team is configure currently we do not have enough of them on the court at any given time to pull that off as in years past.

No player, young or old, can develop on the bench. Kylen, when Kerr got the cream from Jackson. The guys may have been young, but Jackson had already instilled in them their greatness. Does that make any player perfect? Obviously not, but motivation is one of the most important talents of a good coach. Kerr does not have that.
He says he had talks with the players, and all is good now. Then, two games later, he did the same nonsense for games.
Kerr suits coaching in the old Era.
Any of the young available coaches are better than him. Not Riddick clown! He is jealous of Steph. We don't need that drama. Bickerstaff is a better choice. Kerr doesn't listen. That is his biggest problem. No wonder two main assets have left the Warriors. You go figure!

One thing i didn't hear talked about, which Kerr acknowledged this post season, is that he needs to come up with a simpler game plan that the youngsters can understand. Obviously his complicated motion style game plan that seperated the Warriors from the rest is a bit too much for the young players. Also, I'd love you to invite Athletic Alchemy on more often, that guy seriously knows his bball and the Warriors.

The Celtics proved that excellent team play wins championships. Two stars dominating the ball can take you deep into the playoffs but move the ball, get easy shots, and play tough defense. Mark Jackson got the core when they were young, right before his departure the team was finally becoming what they are now. Kerr doesn’t get much credit for forming that unit, though he did give them the formula for success. Much appreciated, but when you’re giving a dang rookie in PODZ more minutes than a Moses Moody who has been patient is crazy. TJD over Looney, in fact drop him and got get Colin Castelton from the Lakers.

Kylen’s #1 grievance - roster construction, no bigs - is, in fact, all about Kerr… he wants to go small, and won’t play big. Front office won’t give up assets for a big that won’t play.
Kerr has refused to hold Draymond accountable, despite many public promises to do so.
Holding on to Kerr and Klay portends very badly for this season.

Steve Kerr is living in the past, right now in the NBA, is a league of young, big and athletic big guys. If you see the last 2 world champion, Denver and Boston have a lot of young big and athletic big man, Dallas and Minnesota also. The warriors otherwise are small, old and slow players, the ones that are young and athletic kerr don't want to use it. You already say top 3 minutes playing time in the team are Steph, Klay and Draymond. If you think that you can win again or at least go to the playoffs with the team as it is right now you are dreaming. They need to change their mentality as a organizaion, and look at the future and make major changes. Or just see 2 more losing season and just watch the games to celebrate the career of the core and steve kerr.

The problem is what Greg Silver think, that the Warriors were contenders. So they don't need to play the young guys a lot. That is totally wrong, i know that Kerr, the core guys and some analyst say that, but that is totally wrong. In 2023 when they barely beat sacramento thanks to Curry and the lose to the lakers in the 2 round, that was the moment the dinasty was over. I believe that last season the young core would get a lot more minutes and a bigger role from kerr, guys like kuminga, Moody and TJD. But kerr had other plans, he want to again go with the core, if it wasn't because of Green suspension, terrible play by Klay, Wiggins, Looney among others, they would be rotting in the bench. The bench players were one of the best in the league, thanks to the young guys. And they save kerr a lot of times, and then kerr goes again with his core, without the young guys, they weren't even a play in team. Last season if you want to say it was a rebuild because kerr give just a little more role to the young guys, let me tell you again, witthout they would be just a lottery team. The core guys are not since last season a contender team, they would not even make the playoffs. And next season season if they don't play way more the young guys. Its going to be a really long and ugly season. They need to play the young guys, gets some additional consistent shooters and some bigs. Those players don't need to be all stars. By the way kuminga as a starter was scoring over 20 points per game, and then when he was injured, kerr put him again in the bench, the same thing Kerr did to TJD. And Moody its really that good. Do your assingments and look at the stats of Moody when he plays more than 25 minutes, and look how good he was when he start, and then Kerr put him back to the bench. Just look the stats if you don' have a good eye test.

My fellow warriors fans are disillusional at best. When this group break up, it will be back to the pack or average. There are no generational talents in this current young group. We got lucky in drafting Klay, Steph and Dre, but that does not happen every generation. Look at the Celtics, it took 16 years for them to win again. The warriors are not the lakers willing to do anything to get top talent. These owners don't want to pay Klay market value, but they want to stay relevant on the cheap. Not going to happen. Why would Klay make less money and not be appreciated? Time to leave and from the comments people don't care, but you will when you see the results of him leaving. I been harping on stuff after his second year what jappened last two years front and center now was in the making.
Even before this season getting bigger was talked he constructed this roster endorsed by Core they could run it back problem they blame was the distraction of Green and Poole.

But klay not being the same , wiggins falling off a cliff , draymond knocking poole’s lights out and destroying team chemistry is why they’re in this situation. There’s nothing kerr could do to change that. You thinking reddick and hammond are better coaches is completely hilarious . Your “facts” are all wrong in your comment

@@ninerempire3398 Your blind he could have done alot and it has nothing to do with the core age or injuries which every team got to deal with.
He was given a team once in a lifetime team two shooter who come once in a lifetime also.
He fail to improve as a coach after ten years still talking about rotation, Fail to draft and fail to develop I was saying this even before UA-cam came around and they were winning chips because he was given other players, Iggy, Livingston, West. zaza, Mcgee, Durant even with all that talent he continue to make rookie cosching decision.
Did he from the beginning intent invent small ball he fell into it but starting 2019. he seem to be more concern about his legacy as a coach like Jackson triangle offense it was small ball believe so much he got rid of all size although they drafted Wiseman owners wish he later refuse to play them drama with JK and this season with Moody. Worse part 2021-22 timing favorable match up they won a chip my opinion he felt he could repeat this year roster although it was cleared the year before they lack height lost to Kings got his wish to run it back with the core blessing nothing of size was really added that they could repeat 2021-22. Problem was Green and Poole.
As coach he enable by his PC woke style or lack of balls to address Green head on as far back as Final with Cavs, facts nows now as Durant speak they meaning Kerr and Meyers mainly didnt man up seept it under the rug as we are finding out now about the punch that Green avoided the locker room and team to me it show Kerr lack the strength to lead off the court which is more important at times than coaching.
He failed and rode his horses until they drop and failed reason young players like JK, Moody, not know their roles and free agent wont play for Warriors.
Middle of 2021-22 chip year players like porter jr, Beli were frustrated with their roles just like McGee. It seem the better you play the less time they get just ask JMGreen. Who voice his opinion in the Laker series, just ask Cousin who questioned him Raptor finals.
I can go on just ask I have for years with Kerrs weakness in spite I never call for his firing until this year. He got two years if he doesnt learn and dont get bigger as he noted exit interview I hope owners got the balls to replace him and hopefully not with Atkinson who is another problem if he isnt gone yet god help the team that took him if not shows no team that stupid after all.

well I don't know the kerr family and he has sucked as far as incorporating the young players starting 2 years ago and forever for that matter.
with thethe amount of losses he could have started the young guys to find out what you actually has in his newbees ! i also think kenny sucks too !

Steve is a hall of fame coach, he’s coaching the Olympic team. He is not the reason. Draymond missing 30 games is the reason they were in the play in.

😂 he only coaching team usa because his connections. Its no coincidence he coached team usa and we didn’t even make qualifications round. An he always had same issues with team usa as he does with warriors, cant adjust, cant make changes, and his rotations is horrible. An his small ball ignorance in a league were it no longer works

Kerr is too in love with small ball and his schemes are old news. Too predictable. He is not that great at developing talent and is a horrible defensive coach. Sentimentality is a killer in pro sports. Ask Bill Walsh (if he was still alive). I think that the Warriors have lost track of that imperative. They seem more worried about hurting feelings than winning. Winning should be the only imperative.

I taught this chanel woll got better when the old fart leaves, stop blaming the coach, still the owners has the last say to all things regarding about teams specially acquiring players of making a move for a trade or not,or resigning a player or not or trading it for a penny....coaches can only make suggestions but it doesnt mean that team owner will follow coaches suggestions...remember coaches are still just an employee of the owners of the any team in the NBA same goes to all players....
