  • If you are a new team going out for Operation On-Target, this is a "must-see" video!
Otherwise - it is probably a waste of your time.
View my video on putting "red-dot" retroreflective aimers on signal mirrors: • Making a Signal Mirror... before this one in either case - this video doesn't cover that topic.
The reason this video is inappropriate for most is because it focuses on the special needs of 12"x12" signal mirrors. 2"x3" and 3"x5" signal mirrors are a better for survival/emergency kits - 12"x12" mirrors are bulky, heavy and fragile.
However, for the 50-90 mile ranges common in Operation On-Target event, 3"x5" mirrors are too small, and 12"x12" mirrors work well. The larger size (and fragility) drive different approaches than with the smaller mirrors - this video focuses on those special needs.
We start with the safety principles applicable to all signal mirrors:
    (1) don't cut anyone,
    (2) don't blind anyone,
    (3) don't "cry wolf".
    We then discuss
    (a) why we save the box,
    (b) "unsharpening" the edges and corners,
    (c) why the aimer goes in the corner,
    (d) applying anti-shatter film,
    (e) taping your notes to the back.
    Next we discuss carry cases:
    (A) use the box the mirrors came in,
    (B) Using a medium pizza box,
    (C) making your own case.
