Im 36, played this religiously as a child. When I bought it 2 yrs ago, I was surprised to know that I remembered every single thing about this game. Nostalgia at its finest.
My mother let me play SMW on her old super Nintendo when I was like 7, she would tell me when she played she would find these "secret keys" and she had no idea where they were now. I devoted my entire life to finding all of them, and I eventually did. Played this game for HOURS finding them all, beating it over and over again. I had no access to the internet, and I was too young to understand the red dots meant there was a secret exit there. The struggle was real man.
you should jump against those blue/brown loudspeaker bricks man, they give you tips. like.. the third or so tells you that the red levels have multiple exits :-)
me too! well, they have everything.... the damn stressful music, the dark look and the ghost! nintendo did a super nice job on this game and even now, it's still really nice to play it!!!
I am literally the only person in the comments who finds the Secret Exit Location jingle very chilling. Gives me extreme chills as if something else is going to appear on-screen than the game, like the scariest 90s Disney bumpers with the nightmarish fonts, loud unsettling music, and hearing the voice-over yelling at the viewers even while music is playing (along with those stay tuned bumpers that show inanimate background images) 😨😂😨😂😨😂
Could it be the mysterious nature of that keyhole that gives you the chills? It’s like you’ve entered an alternate universe when you discover these. I absolutely get what you mean. Wish they would do something like this in Mario Maker 2. I could spend hours making levels with these hidden secrets, honestly.
To this day, Super Mario World is still the best Mario game I have ever played. Super Mario Bros 3 is a close second, but if I can sum up in one word why I prefer World, it's "secrets!" Sure, SMB3 had secrets too, but not like this. First time I discovered the Star Road and Special Stages, it blew my little mind! Haha.

I am a 2000's kid. I remembered when I was a baby, my mom and my older brothers would play the Snes. They would play Dr. Mario, Tetris, Super Mario World and my favorite game of all time, Yoshi's island. Then, when it was my time to play, which by the way, I was about 2 years old when I got my hands on the controller, I started to play and I loved it ever since. I'm 15 now, in Junior year in high school, my older brothers moved out long ago and moved on from video games and me I turned into a Nintendo Gamer since then, I never stopped playing. I play on emulators now on my PC. (I sold my Snes when I was 6 for Wii games and I regret that so much) But my parents are buying a Snes classic soon, which i can't wait to experience the nostalgia of what started it all for me.
Although I never played Mario 64 - at least not for any extended period of time - I did play Super Mario World in its entirety for months. Even after school and football practice under the Texas heat this game would definitely get me running home, skip dinner, screw homework, and play for hours. I don't think any other game has ever captured my attention more than this one. It took my brother, a few friends, and I to a far away fantasy world. A true masterpiece.
the valley ghost house one is cryptic as f***. You wouldn't even think a key way existed until you somehow by chance use a cape in that room and scout around that area
Love that game. I think I have gotten every thing... maxed out score, gotten all of the roads, gotten all of the gold coins, unlocked secret aria, did that coin collecting challenge, waited for the song to change in secret aria, maxed restarts, and found a few bugs. I wised to have back my game boy advance (the small one) and Super Mario 3.
if you are still having trouble doing %100 remember 2 things, the title screen counts exits found so should say 96 in the end, not 100. second thing to remember is do the normal exits in star road, those count too.
I remember whenever the weekends would come and head over to New York to be over my Aunt's house. My cousin would always play Super Mario World before I would arrive. She would always pass me or my brother my controller, her first floor neighbor would join as I recall a portion of my youth beating level by level for my cousin. She would save the progress and leave the cartridge on the SNES. The day came when I beat the game, but aimed all the exits for her and so I did. And I did got them all... So I though. It wasn't till years later on a very early walkthrough on youtube about SMW that I missed the secret passage above the first ghost house. The one that the levels gives you free flowers, cape and a Yoshi. I felt so betrayed xD
Damn I played this game out as a kid. Even though I covered everything and all the secrets, I still felt like there was more to unravel because the ending showed some monsters that were not in the game lol. This brings back a lot of memories.
Every enemy in the end credits is in the game if only for 1 level. Torpedo Ted is in Soda Lake right below Cheese Bridge Area. And the Masked Koopas and all the alternate enemies to the normal ones are unlocked by completing the Special zone that's unlocked from Star World#5 key exit.
Pretty sure the highest I got back in the mid 90s was a 95. The problem was I played on 3 different Carts: I had it at my Mom's, my step bro had it at my Dad's and my friend also had it. I didn't know the max was 96 back then and thought it was 100 and my missing ones had to do with Yoshi coins since I usually collected all of them to get the 1-up. But between my bro, friend and myself we definitely found all of these back in the day. I was doing a 100% play through just now based off memory and was stuck at 95. Watched the vid and realized I needed Forest Ghost House 2nd door to go back to Forest of Illusion level 1 despite that path already being unlocked from the key there lol.
what also works at 22:00 to get to the key you can use the cape and fly up there and if you can get your character to stay up there hold the down arrow and keep pressing A button to jump while holding the right arrow (I just tested this so if you do it right it should work)
This is missing a couple exits. One of the secret exits is in the castle accessed from the Forest of Illusions secret levels on the left side of the forest map. right as you get to the boss door, go above the door and you gotta have the cape and you fly all the way across the lava and bouncing fire to another boss door.
U know what? At 22:00 as a 4 years old child i NEVER figured out how to reach that damn key hole spott. I just recognized it when flying arround as Feather Mario. 20 Years later it came back into my memories so i put on my SNES and went back there. Again, as Feather Mario and i figured out a little trick: The Moment after running before the jump where you starts to fly you need to press DOWN so Mario starts flying in his SITTING POSITION. With a LOT of practise and time i were able to reach the little open spot of the wall wehre the key hole is. I CAN DIE IN PIECE NOW.
In my childhood I always supected that the first haunted house in chocoland had a secret path to the icebergs in the bottom right of the map. I'm disapointed that it didn't..=(
At 22:00, how do you get the blocks/coins to turn and go upward and do the path? When I do it, the blocks/coins just go straight forward and I can't get them to turn.
GreenMunky Vids To make it go up, press up on the D pad. Controlling the coins is made pretty annoying because you are controlling your character at the same time but you should get the hang of it after a while.
+The Organism funny i got up there without the coin assist. You just have to use the cape and hold down when flying up there, then you just tap A rapidly while squatting to get through.
I think the harder secret exits started when you entered that Mysterious forest. I remember one of the hardest ones was on that level in the forest where you get the one up and the exit was where that turtle was throwing out spike monsters at you in the middle of the level from the cup. You had to fly up there to get to that one, and also the one with the bombs. Yeah the game had pretty intense secret levels. Let's not forget everybody's favorite secret on the first ghost house which takes you to the top secret area :)
The hardest exit for me was Soda Lake. I had to get 2 fireflowers and a Yoshi to get past of it first time. Now I can do it while small Mario, it doesn't feel that hard anymore.
Best. Videogame. Ever. Mário and Yoshi = Best. Videogame. Team. Ever. Best. Videogame. Stages. Ever. Best. Videogame. Secrets. Ever. Super Mario World ROCKS!!!!
The secrets at ghost houses are nearly inconspicuous because there's no red indication, and that they're completely offscreen. I didn't even know the top secret area (the supply stage) exists until I was told about it. Aside from the ghost houses, the hardest secret routes to find are the Chocolate Island 2 and the Bowser Valley 2
There is a trick to getting the key on the last ghost house u can actually make Mario fly while he's squatting and when u land hold down and "hop" until u get under the blocks. I never used coins to get them That's how I always did it looks awkward as hell but it works :-)
My cousin showed me some of the secret exits and won the game within 5 minutes and it was all done within the first levels!!!! I downloaded it to my GBA emulator and I'm going to try to find them, and the hidden levels he also showed me.
As for chocolate island 2 exit I think it's time specific in that the next area changes depending on what time u enter the pipe. I don't know what time does what but that's my best theory on that
My mom and I (21 and 45) are actually bonding over super Mario Nintendo and watching videos on how to cheat! 😭 (something’s telling me to savor these moments ❤️)
not even the half of all the secrets.... but, nice video and continue to play! this game is excellent and i can't tell hoh many hours i have play it in the old real SNES.... i bought it used when i was 13 year old i think and hmmmmmm, i'm 36 year old the 5th of July!!!!!! yay!!!! :)
Btw in that cloud stage theirs another way I found as a child u can sprint with Yoshi in the beginning and just hold sprint and jump if u time it right he will bounce off all the right saws and everything and will land u under the platform then u just hop off him to get that secret exit
Du!!! you just took me back man. I was about 16 taking it to 3 am obsessed with this. It was the latest thing then. maybe nintendo 64 after, but din't really like that one.
If you're a real fan of this game, this is for you: These are some "unintended" secret exits in the game found through glitches... ua-cam.com/play/PLqeYp3nxIYpH0C3rr8Oriv6H9iD07vTKt.html
+hamsterpoop There's actually 101 exits. #97: Donut Plains 2 (Room where the key is there is a pipe at the end. The other way is at the very end of the force-scrolled room) #98: Cheese Bridge Yoshi Wings #99: Forest Fortress (There is an area of lava past the red door. Fly over all of that and there is a second red door. But not required for all 96 exits.) #100: Valley of Bowser 2 Yoshi Wings #101: Way Cool Yoshi Wings
I'm 35 and I still play this! Keep my childhood alive 🤧

+Matt Mc I've done that trick before!
Lol I called it the bunny hop
I REMEMBER!!!
Thanks for the upload. I got most of the exits except for the one on butter bridge.
This is very helpful! I just started playing again and there are some secrets I didnt know about.
One of the best retro Mario games
Nothing’s better than getting the bong out and beating this game with a mate
muy bueno! ya me sabia la mayoría solo me hacían falta unos 3 mundos secretos! gracias excelente vídeo!
Nice video I have a lot of snes games including this
Brings good memories my childhood
I NEVER was able to get the cloud one with the saws. I even had my dad try back then and he was worse! I miss my SNES
My cousin showed me some of the secret exits and won the game within 5 minutes and it was all done within the first levels!!!! I downloaded it to my GBA emulator and I'm going to try to find them, and the hidden levels he also showed me.
Huh i didn't know god was uploading to you tube. This is by far my favorite Mario game, and you made it look fucking easy dude
Thank you very helpfull I've got this downloaded on 2ds and was wondering why couldn't progress from forest of illusion area
Awesome video thanks for your help!!
As for chocolate island 2 exit I think it's time specific in that the next area changes depending on what time u enter the pipe. I don't know what time does what but that's my best theory on that
When are we gonna have a video game library...a place where I can go and explore the wonders of this amazing art form.
Thanks for posting. I could only find some of these
Dude you’re the best player I have ever seen on this game!!! Godddddd I’m struggling with one and need help!!!!
Which one?
this guide is coming in handy for my SNES classic =)
The hardest one to locate was the Valley of Bowser 2 secret exit that takes you to Valley Fortress. Hands down.
My mom and I (21 and 45) are actually bonding over super Mario Nintendo and watching videos on how to cheat! 😭 (something’s telling me to savor these moments ❤️)

23:53, You couldve just let Yoshi eat the star and he grows fully
But you DO swim faster holding him so...

I look up one walk through for super Mario world and now that’s all I’m being recommended…
This video game will live forever.
It was the latest thing then. maybe nintendo 64 after, but din't really like that one.
wow dude you're a pro, I respect you! c:
Did you know that it's a secret road in the forest level. Lot of people don't know this.
I didn't know that!!😀
What's your percentage
If you're a real fan of this game, this is for you: These are some "unintended" secret exits in the game found through glitches... ua-cam.com/play/PLqeYp3nxIYpH0C3rr8Oriv6H9iD07vTKt.html
+hamsterpoop There's actually 101 exits.
#97: Donut Plains 2 (Room where the key is there is a pipe at the end. The other way is at the very end of the force-scrolled room)
#98: Cheese Bridge Yoshi Wings
#99: Forest Fortress (There is an area of lava past the red door. Fly over all of that and there is a second red door. But not required for all 96 exits.)
#100: Valley of Bowser 2 Yoshi Wings
#101: Way Cool Yoshi Wings
gracias por mostrarme este video a mi me gusta super mario
the sleeping fish is so cute
Some all secret exit locations are fun to go to and if I go there and exit them. And if you go there and exit them.
Cool, thanks - I just would have kept more of the levels and map portion after the secret.
You are GREAT!
I could never find the green switch or find the secret exit to valley of bowser 2, but eventually did find them then beat the game 100%.
