While this accessory is perhaps limited in its advantages over a larger single source, I think the real value is that it effectively gives people who wouldn't own that bigger single source light a way to create an equivalent large source. That is, for many gaffers/owner-operators/small studios, it's probably more practical to buy two Nova 600s than it is to own one of the 1200+ watt panel lights (like the Nanlux Dyno or Arri Skypanel 360). Many common tasks need two or more sources, not immense brightness, and the small panels are also easier to handle and travel. For those rarer occasions that you need all that power in one place, this $350USD yoke may be the solution.
Im actually not so sure how useful that would be, without the ability to tilt the big Softbox. I amost always have my big Softboxes with grid, tilted down slightly to get spill of the background. It’s an interesting idea though.
It's a lot of weight to have offset, you could do it but you would want a serious light stand, something like a super wind up rated at 80Kg with a lot of shit bags opposite the weight and a leg under the load. I had actually shot a segment about it for the episode but then decided against it in case someone did it with a smaller stand. I didn't want to give anyone a bad idea to try. At about 45⁰ it's fine, but at 90⁰ it starts to flex the yoke a little.
Thanks for the video Andrew! Have you had a chance to try the Dyno 650C panel from Nanlux? Curious if you have any thoughts on it, especially in comparison to the Nova 600. Cheers
I just have no time, and I'm also waiting on a huge update to the app that will give the Nova 600 way more impressive capabilities than it currently has
@@zebius4157 I don't know if the foot print of the stand would be wide enough for stability on a set with people walking around like zombies on mobile phones. It is on a low boy during the shooting here.
@@zebius4157 sorry I never got around to replying. That stand is great, except the wheels only work when the stand legs is compressed. I'm guessing you want to use this inside, if your not going up high with the combo and you have plenty of stands I think you would be fine
I know these new LEDs have effects, but what are you thoughts about using old T4 American Elation Chaser boxes with LEDS? I have tube lights, cob leds and a 600d on the way... but could using a chaser box with leds damage them? (or a flicker box it is someitmes called)
You would think they would take the Ikea approach and ship the Torx wrench with the unit. (Torx is imho way better than Allan or Roberts, and far and away better than Phillips or Posi)

I mean, compared to an s360c, it weighs 30 pounds less and draws 160 less watts for a similar output if luminous efficacy is taken into account
Looks heavy but specially to fill a large silk frame up close could come handy.
We had a yoke made out of welded steel that held 3 Vortex 8's and the collective groan from the crew every time it was asked for was pretty hilarious.
Great review!!!! Thank you for the video!
Pair with a crank stand it’s fast and bright key. Wish there was a soft box for the dual yoke.

Good point! It would have to tilt differently. Frame in a frame perhaps.
@@douglasgander jup like the multi Yoke for the 4x LS 1200d
How about using a Kupo Junior Angle Adaptor to tilt the whole double bracket up or down?

Love your content !
Would be interesting to see a dual head yoke flipped vertically
Is there a review of the hive bumble bulb par30 on the horizon?
Only if they send me one. If there is a distributor in Australia they are keeping it a secret

Fans are a bit on the loud side, I don't think I could use them in a corporate environment. Other than that, it's a good light.
Why there's no a review of the nova p600c? :(

At roughly 70lbs, whats the lightest stand you would recommend for this configuration?
A steel Cobo with square legs
@@gaffergear with the ability to adjust the lights on the yoke, do you think one could get away with a double riser low boy stand for most use cases?

Remember you mentioned a Nova 600 review a while back. Have I missed it or...?
hey, yeah! looking forward to this one too.
It's still coming, Aputure have a software update that would make this unit so much more amazing.

Soonwell 900 coming soon?
We hit a DMX problem, just trying to get it resolved before the review.
Do you find any benefit of using a double rabbit ears adapter for the 600d vs just using the 1200d?
I haven't had my hands in one, but I would be interested in using 2 1200s on it

I have to say it didn't slip out when I used it
Looks like an Arri S-360 SkyPanel killer for a 4th of the price..🤔
P.S. it'd be nice if you could mount them vertical, and side by side though😎
You might consider a change to the spelling in the title. I believe the word should be “dual”.
Thanks, I always get my vouls mixed up
