Didn't see this coming. I thought there would be some sort of partnership after the lawsuit was dismissed, this is way beyond what anyone was expecting! I'm hoping this will enhance what expect on the Z6 III, maybe this is why it has been delayed for so long. What do you think this purchase will mean for Nikon hybrid shooters? Could we see the first fruits of this on the Z6 III, share your thoughts.
It may be why Z6III was delayed.
Autofocus it over focused on. Nikon has some of the best color science, they have the best optics, and some of the best stills cameras. Red has crazy good sensors. Now you marry those together and you have crazy good stills cameras and glass for RED that take it to the next level. Also the Z mount is big enough to do medium format and we might see a RED with an extra large almost Imax sensor.
I’m hoping we see some benefits of this merger on the hybrid camera side, hopefully in the Z6 III.
Nikon's vast archive of optical design concepts contains nearly every type of optical format ever created. Nikon may have finished optical designs for its cinema lens collection or just as likely use an already existing optical design that just needs to be rehoused for cinema.
Good point. They may add another body for RED that can use Z Mount lens, it would be nice to see them introduce more video focused lens for their hybrid line as well.
maybe we can borrow that global shutter at 240 FPS from red ? ;)
Seems more likely we may see a Z9H to compete with A9 III. While the announce was just made about purchase, they might have already been collaborating on some gear we could see in the future.

@@michaelmalodrums9674I keep saying Sony's announcement seemed rushed, maybe they knew something similar would be coming from Nikon. We will have to wait see what Nikon announces.
@@waynerm002 do you recall when the Z 8 release seemed stalled because of the law suit ? Then just before the Z 8 announcement Nikon posted a photo with the Nikon name with a cine camera logo and everyone was saying what’s this about ? Maybe a software announcement? Maybe that was an Easter egg haha

Maybe they wanted to gain a foothold in the cinema camera market, rather than developing something from scratch. Having a top performing global shutter could well be part of that as well.
