It should be noted that Cloudy Climb was released in early 2023 which was before AI was anywhere near as controversial as it is now. ChatGPT also obviously can't just generate custom tracks as a whole lol, most of the work was done by the author themselves. I like for the Midnight mods to be snapshots of their respective release windows, so I think regardless on how you feel about ChatGPT being used in the design process, including a track like this in a 2023 track compilation is relevant. Either way, thank you Troy for checking out more of these tracks!

@@DeviDoesNothing I don't make custom tracks, but I'm a computer scientist who uses ChatGPT on a daily basis for work; this premise is to say that I have an idea (so I'm going to speculate, I'm not sure) on how it can be used somewhat effectively.
I'm sure it was an iterative process, this means that the track wasn't done just with a single question/query, for instance "design a mario kart wii custom track", but rather it was a series of more precise questions.
I can imagine a series of questions like:
- what can be the general shape of the track?
- I have a left turn, what can I put after it? (e.g. a right turn, some obstacles, a set of item boxes)
- I put item boxes here, here and here, where can I put a fourth set?
- and so on...
Maybe the questions are not correct, that's somewhat irrelevant, the important thing to understand is that AI prompts are tools that can't do everything on their on, they help humans with work, and, at least as of today (and especially in early 2023), they work better if you ask them precise questions about small stuff, where you don't have to think too too much.

Those ants are actually called "Ant Troopers" and they were featured in Mario 3D World, so that explains why they looks so weird compared to regular ants

Goomba’s Booty Boardwalk is a board from Mario Party 8 (my personal fave Mario Party for nostalgia reasons). That’s why the colorful squares - they’re the spaces on the board that give or take away coins or have special things happen. In Mario Party it’s a one-way board and at the end Goomba gives you the star from his chest
That buddha park was lowkey cooking. It had all the elements of a good track:
Clarity, you could tell exactly where you needed to go pretty much, with maybe the only loss in clarity being the track rejoining toward the end of the lap
A shroomed shortcut:
These are actually really important to allow comebacks as back spam con otherwise wall you in this game sometimes when you only get mushrooms
Small bits of tech to make things interesting: The techs that it had were clearly good and grant an advantage, but for someone new to the track, they are by no means necessary. These little bits reward mastery and are also just fun to watch and play because they are rewarding. Prime example was the railing ride from the ramp.
Something extra that it did to solve a design issue for the baby-park-likes is that it split the track. This reduces the claustrophobia a bit as there is likely going to be a half split of the racers. It also makes it a bit easier for comebacks on a track that otherwise has a very small shortcut.
Troy I love you but every time you bump into an arrow sign and ask "Where do I go?" I lose a bit of sanity lol

There is a glitch I found on retro rewind where when you go on vs mode offline, quit once in a race and go on battle and play a random track the weirdest stuff happens. You play on the track you just played on versus (not a battle track) and the track is really different + there is random battle music and you can complete laps. you also get randomly teleported when you die. works best on Wii tracks in v6.1.1. Edit: Ghost valley 2 and desert hills crashes the game. Sherbert land crashes as well after about 20 seconds

Ant Arctic Ambush. It’s totally based off a 3D World level with the Ant Troopers and candy theme, and the track seems similar to Luncheon Tour. Tranquility Temple is great too, Metabus is just great at making peak.

Thing is, though, 8 is one of the Mario Party games people are much more familiar with, since the Wii sold very well compared to the N64 and GameCube. So I'm sure he's heard a bit about it at some point.

Track at 8:16 looks like it needs a bit of different texturing. It looks like the same color of brown for the side spikes and the track, plus it doesn’t provide much depth based on the light (which isn’t good because it isn’t exactly flat terrain). If the texturing of the dirt looked better there, I think it would be a more friendly track altogether.
The Archipelago track looks AMAZING but could probably use more of the Troy-approved arrows and some turns that aren’t as sharp because it seems like right now it’s built for Time Trials and not for multiplayer/casual gameplay.
Autumnal Archipelago was made for track creation competition where you had to make a challenging track. That's what the creator achieved very well.

That first track definitely took from the first boss in Diddy Kong racing a little bit, but with a lot more to it.

EDIT: Mayro’s comment cleared things up enough for me, so props to her for doing so. My two biggest gripes with AI are how taxing it is on the environment and how it’s used in ways to discredit artists/writers/composers/anyone whose profession revolves around human artistry and creativity (and the threat this poses to humans who work in these fields - I’m a composer, so this is a real worry for me). 99% of all reactions I have to AI is going to be negative, but had I known what Mayro said, I would’ve been less harsh.

It wasn't ai generated lol. Ai was used as a gimmick to help design it, but human effort was used to actually put the hours it took to make it.
