- With the lack of steam on the mainline it was off to the GCR for me. The sun shone all day and there was a seven locomotive line up. On top of this 92214 was running as 92220 Evening Star and there was a GWR locomotive in the form of 6960 Raveningham Hall. Also featured was 78019 and this is its last operation prior to an overhaul. Other locomotives featured are 47406, 48624, 46521, 45305. Best viewed in 2160p and I hope you enjoy.
One of the best videos i have seen. Crisp image and clear sound.
Very much enjoyed, thanks John, for all of the usual reasons! Apologies for having only just spotted this but it was the reference to Evening Star that caught my eye. Some locomotives are special for the strangest of reasons, Britannia for one, but (92214 running as) Evening Star is another because every mention or sight of it reminds me of Eric Treacy (that was the one he was waiting for at Appleby in 1978). Your crystal clear video in wonderful lighting does true justice to the memory. That in no way diminishes my enjoyment of seeing the other locos, especially Raveningham Hall. Only five years ago, but how uncluttered it all seems! Kind regards, Bob. p.s. You and your family, please stay safe and well.
Magnificent to see how the Star would look where she in steam today, beautiful work.
An epic video of evening star in steam, before being incarcerated at the NRM 😢
Great seeing some shunting and goods trains etc 👌👍👍
Jason, Many people thought this video contained the original Evening Star which at the time and still is located at the NRM. This was in fact the GCR's 9F no. 92214 in disguise. Thanks for taking the time comment. Regards, John
the 9F is the best BR era freight steamer to date. Thank you BR for preserving 92220!
I agree but this was actually 92214 masquerading as Evening Star. Regards, John
@@GreatBritishRailways1 I knew that. I was saying that in general. The sound of a 9F working is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard when it comes to BR mainline steamers.
48624 looks superb, Really high quality paint job. Very convincing reproduction of Evening Star too,.
There are few things on Earth as beautiful as the 9F. And one of them is probably the GWR Hall Class! Lovely video and lovely channel generally. :)
9-fs are my favourite locomotives...
FINALLY I see a steam loco shunting
Absolutely stunning work John, the clarity especially in the sunshine is outstanding...this was a sheer joy to sit back and enjoy...Best wishes....Bob
Excellent video John, and glorious weather to film in, thanks for sharing your day out, cheers...Bill
It makes such a difference when the sun shines John, excellent and very enjoyable video. The 9F looks wonderful
That looks like it was awesome having so many steam engines in one place all working.
Good to see he 9fs running. Saw it the Evening Star at the NRM today
The real one u mean
Excellent mix of action and locations, John, with the added bonus of glorious weather. Not sure the purists will agree, but the 9f looks fine in its temporary coat. A fine gala from the GCR
regards Mike
Nice to see the evening Star in steam again.
Thanks for your comment but this was actually 92214 masquerading as Evening Star. Regards, John
Great action footage John!.Awesome sound.I was stood by you on TPO drop,92220,nice 4K camera you have!.Regards,Nick
Very well done video John :)
Many thanks and glad you enjoyed the video. Regards, John
Great shots John , the 9f looked superb and boy you managed to get lovely weather . Regards Steve
That driver though... holy cow. That man knows.
Like a step back in time. Good shoot.
It Well Be Great To See Evening Star Visit Sodor For Summer And I'll Like To See Her And Murdoch Together
Steam Locomotives remind of Domesticated Dog's. breeds of dogs; classes in case of Locomotives. They do different jobs & come in a variety of different shapes & sizes.
The Clarity is amazing.. you must have some good gear to shoot this...
Really enjoyed it..

Was this actually evening star or was it actually 92214
92215 looks amazing as 92220. They usually look similar, but the copper chimney just completes it. I wonder if when she returns to being "just" Central Star she will keep the copper? Looks almost exactly the same except Evening Star's paint looks a little darker than Central Star masquerading.
The engines number is actually 92214 not 92215.
I all ways think that BR STANDARD 9F Evening Star engine only run on Evening because it is written has Evening star bit it can run any time
Thanks for your comment. Regards, John
Murdoch from Thomas and Friends.
Thanks for watching and your comment. Regards, John
I didn’t think Evening Star was steamable. I stand corrected
I feel model railway companies can not capture this locomotive correctly... Every model ive seen just looks so off
Have you noticed just how many great things start with S. sunshine,Steam, Sailing, Surfing,Sport, And Sex. Feel free to add to list 😁😁
Is that the real evening star or is that a 9f with 92220s name plates
Thought so iv also just seen a video that shoes she is from 1959
92214 as 92220 Evening Star. Me who is a fan of Among Us: IMPOSTER!!!!
Thanks for your comment and always appreciated. Regards, John
