The Harvard/MIT Bridge is a major bridge connecting Cambridge and Boston. Every year MIT students measure it in out a unit of their own devising, "the Smoot." On the West side of the bridge, at approximately 115 Smoots, the idea for this song was born while listening to John Coltrane.
