I was born in Ireland and dont go there often anymore. But when I go I go through the country and see the weather and remember myself why i dont go anymore. But when u take shelter in a random pub, the people are always the same. Nicest and kindest people on earth. This songs reminds me of those people
This is the best version of the song that I have heard. My son David died this past April. While listening to Danny Boy, I realized that it was easy to substitute Davy for Danny. Every time that I listen to Danny Boy, now my mind automatically substitutes Davy for Danny.
j'ai chanté en chorale cette merveilleusemélodie en pensant à la fantastique interprétation de notre NANA bien aimée.... bravo NANA votre voix si limpide épouse parfaitement cette belle chanson de mes ancêtres brittaniques
Absolutely the most beautiful rendition of "Danny Boy" I have ever heard. Nana Mouskouri has the voice of an angel. Thanks for posting this video with the beautiful scenes to complement her voice.
I love her voice beautiful, but i still prefer Elvis's interpretation of this song that will never be forgotten. My late mum's favourite song. Means a lot to me. Thank you Nana your voice is special.
Ya can't help but to love her as well as this song and as well as the Irish and the day in which ya heard this beautiful voice sing this beauty of a song. Go bless you Nana for washing me own eyes with your tender voice.
A beautiful Irish folk song, many have sang this song and many have failed to do it justice, some of those who have managed to deliver excellent renditions include the late Eva Cassidy, Shane McGowan, Declan Galbraith and the excellent rendition by Nana Mouskouri. This song will never date, a timeless classic of musical and lyrical perfection. Patrick (Ireland)
Inspite of the origin of the song..may I qoute "Music is the language of the soul". The lyrics and melody transcends beyond borders. It depicts the undying human spirit and relationships.
I don't think I have commented on this video but I've listened to it a number of times. OP, you did good with the photos and this great interpretation by Nana. Thank you so much for posting.
Once more with Danny Boy, I applaud the angelic voice of Nina Moskouri that lives up to the Greek vocal tradition. Indeed, she is currently the 'prima vox' Greece. However, Maria Callas, for me, is the 'Prima Inter Pares', the first of all 'prima donnas'. That being so,, the most beautiful voice and interpretation of british song 'Danny Boy' is with the actress and Canadian singer, Deanna Durbin, by the way of blessed memory. No one else.
Weatherly gave the song to the vocalist Elsie Griffin, who made it one of the most popular songs in the new century; and, in 1915, Ernestine Schumann-Heink produced the first recording. of "Danny Boy" Jane Ross of Limavady is credited with collecting the melody of "Londonderry Air" in the mid-19th century from a local fiddle player.
The British Isles were so named by the Romans. Mainland Scotland, England and Wales translates to Greater Britain and Ireland as Lesser Britain and with all the smaller isles comprise the group. The lyrics were written by an Englishman as can be seen at the top of this page.
Although for this particular song I think Judith Durham's rendition is the best, I do love Nana's voice, and - like Judith - she doesn't strain at all on the top note. (Also, you've obviously played that record A LOT, judging from the surface noise - which I think actually adds something!)
Also forgot to say, this is the anthem used in the olympics for Northern Ireland. It is MISTAKING as a Rebel song. Its a song the whole of Northern Ireland can relate to. It is NOT a rebel song.
Beautiful old song, Beautifully sung by a Beautiful lady with a Beautiful voice❤️❤️👏👏👏
For me this is the best. Voice and music to match. The voice of an angel indeed. Not too much music just simple yet technical.

Nana,s voice is probably the closest to an angel,s voice this side of Heaven.

She could sing the telephone directory and make me cry, but THIS SONG...wow !

Go bless you Nana for washing me own eyes with your tender voice.
nana with its voice and its many languages can enchant all people who believe in love and humanity!

The second verse is often overlooked, but the anguish of separation in life and the hope of meeting again in death is expressed with painful beauty.
Inspite of the origin of the song..may I qoute "Music is the language of the soul". The lyrics and melody transcends beyond borders. It depicts the undying human spirit and relationships.

@shapeepster -- Have you heard the one Carly Simon included in her "My Romance" album? I love that version.

It seems that the music is Irish and the words from an Englishman.
