They also have a new 12V charger that can also charge the Yeti while driving.

What Pergo flooring did you use for the van? I went back and watched your video that covered your floor installation but I never did hear what exact flooring you are using. Great video! Thanks

Have you seen the news release today? Ford announced the changes for the 2020 Transit. All Wheel Drive will be an option. EcoBoost engine is a carry over. 10 speed transmission across all engines. Four cylinder diesel will be available that makes more HP and torque than the current 5 cylinder diesel. Van will be a WIFI hotspot.
Have you seen all the UA-cam videos about people installing diesel heaters in their vans? They seem to like them and they are only a couple hundred $$.
Isn't there a 12V cigarette lighter plug for your Goal Zero that you can plug in your dash and charge while you drive, so you don't have to hook up the alternator solenoid switch?

I knew it was only a matter of time before there were 4X4 or All wheel available. Van build market growing too much to avoid it. I will research the 12 volt option for sure on the Goal Zero.

There are companies that will convert your Transit to a 4x4 by installing a F350 transfer case and front differential. Quigley and Quadvan are two...there are more. For sheer traction and off road ability these systems would be more capable than the AWD option Ford is offering on the 2020 Transit

I can’t decide if I should insulate or not before my build. We get snow and very cold weather but we will be using transit to camp in the summer. Will insulation make it too hot for us or does it help to block out the heat? Does that he roof fan really make a difference for cooling in warm temps and one other question, will a goal zero or the kodiak be able to power a regular house fan for my dog and I in heat?

We looked at the 4X4 conversion. They are in the 15K range when all said and done. For our use, not sure I am sold on the added expense. All wheel will get most places I need to get with a fly rod. But we are looking at that for our second van in a few years. In the meantime, we are looking into lifting the van and new wheels and tires. We have land in New York where we will end up in a few years. May need it more there.

Lisa, I would definitely insulate. Insulation helps in the heat! it does help keep the van cool. Yes the roof fan is the bomb in the heat. Crack the rear door, put the fan on reverse and create a nice breeze through the van. You do not need a "Regular House Fan", get a 12 volt fan online. They use very little power and create good airflow.

Please help. I will be using my ford transit every day as a vehicle and not living in it but I’m looking into goal zero too but what happens when I put panel on roof and don’t use the goal zero for week or days because we are not going camping , does the battery hold that charge or does it drain out not being used? Also trying to decide if I should put panels on roof or just suitcase one since we won’t be live in it? Can you tell me how long it takes to fully charge with suitcase panels?

@lisa kravitz Look into the Kodiak solar generator... inergytek.com/
Since you drive your Transit every day, you can plug the Kodiak into your 12V plug and charge it while you drive. It has a lithium battery so it is powerful and light weight (less than 30 lbs), plus you can daisy chain another lithium battery to it if your power needs surpass the battery inside. If you still need even more power, then you can attach solar panels to it. Charging times depend on how much solar watts you attach to it, as well as how much sun is available. The advantage of suitcase systems is you can park in the shade to keep cool while the panels are out in the sun, if you have enough cable length. Plus, portable panels can be moved and angled to follow the sun and make the best use (efficiency) of the sunlight you have. Suitcase panels aren't really practical in an urban setting though. (theft?) Panels up top are fixed (unless you spend the extra money to have a tilting system up top and want to climb up and down to tilt the panels a few times each day) and require some work to attach and you need holes in the roof to run the wires down through. Roof top panels can charge while you drive or park in the sun, so either choice has pros and cons.

lisa, David makes some great points and you should also take a look at the Kodiak I have seen some good reviews on them as well. I like the suitcase panels since we typically are not camping in an urban setting so the fold outs work well. It takes about 4-5 hours for a charge if I let the battery go down to say 70%. On a sunny day, I get about 60Watts from the briefcase panel. With the fridge (45 watts), Fan (10 watts) running I am netting 5 watts charge. So that 4-5 hours is with everything off. The battery holds its charge just fine when not using it. The other reason we like the suitcase panels it so we can park in the shade and put the panel in the sun.
