Great tutorial. What points in the frame use to support the bike with the stands? I also have the same bike, but I always struggle supporting the frame. Also, prime the oil filter is key to prevent premature engine wear. I learn so much from your videos. Great job.

Wow, thanks for the kind words. I support the frame with jack stands where the foot pegs bolt to the frame. For the Rear wheel I support the frame behind the coolant reservoir, just gotta be careful for rectifier and wires. I think you can see it a little better in my wheel speed gear and fork seal videos. Do you think it's worth it's own video? I've been lifting bikes with jack stands and 2x4's for so long I don't even think about it.

Is there any other way to support the front tire? I think when you use the foot pegs you put a lot of streets on the pegs welds. Resting the weight of the front of the motorcycle solely on the pegs may fracture the peg weld. What are your thoughts? Also, when you check the oil level you don’t screw in the dipstick all the way in. Just insert it and take it out again to verify the oil level is at the highest point. Great instructional video regardless.

@@rvelandi1919 the only other place is the frame and you need a motorcycle jack that has the U cups that you move under the frame. I use 3 2x4's nailed to fit in an H pattern and the jack stands just to keep it from wobbling. 1:07 time stamp in the fork seal video. And bricks or strap to keep the front wheel off the ground.

You can do so much off a center stand it should be illegal to not provide one. Alternative... The wider chock/stand that Harbor Freight (USA) sells is also good, the narrow one is more for trailers.

@@Squisheyy Yea once you make a set of wood blocks to go between the jack and frame, avoiding the soft bits. You are set. I used to have one for each bike.

Thanks for this. I have been teaching myself to wrench in reverse order 😂. Ive never changed my own oil on my shadow 750. But I bobbed it - swapped a fender, replaced the air intake, pipes, rejet the carbs, got rid of hoses, replaced lights yadda yadda yadda and now I feel rediculous bringing it in for an oil change. This is a great video for someone like me who doesn't know what I don't know.

Customizing is fun, maintenance is tedious and not fun.

Filters mounted horizontally obviously can't get anywhere near even half the oil they hold in them. Why the hell can't Honda put the filter vertical. There's got to be a way to do that. That would make things so much easier and you can actually fill the filter completely full before you screw it on

The engineers are not concerned whether you able to fill the oil filter with oil or not. They are more concerned on engine performance, fuel economy and even aerodynamics. It’s given that the Honda Shadow engines had proved to be one of the best engines in their class. My Shadow Spirit 1100 is 23 years old and still runs like a charm! If you compare other makers they don’t last that long. I believe when you find a well design, well made engine either a car or motorcycle then you should stick with it. They don’t make quality products anymore. Enjoy the ride my friends.

I’ve never thought of it that way. Great point. It does sit sideways in the engine oil reservoir. The argument is that filling it primes it. I don't really agree with that.
