Yawanawa Spiritual Leader Rasu Speaks of These Times | Full Length Interview

- During a weekend with spiritual tribal leader Pekarasu (Rasu for short), and two others from Mutum village, I received a vision of an important and beautiful video I would make for him, interviewing him and creating a platform to share his knowledge, wisdom, and voice. It took no less than three conversations to go over the purpose and intentions behind the video production with enough clarity to gain his assurance, and I’m so grateful because by the end you can see how pleased he was in the collaboration!
Please enjoy the film-like intro and outro of the music, and the answers he gives (to questions that were really just an invitation from him to speak). I asked him speak about these times and I was going to get out of the way.
Rasu is the grandson of the great Pajé Tata, one of the most respected elders of the Yawanawá people. Rasu was chosen and raised by Tata to be his successor and was one of his closest students until Tata passed away at 103 years old. Rasu was the youngest Yawanawá to complete the highest spiritual initiation of his people, at only 17 years old. He is currently one of the chiefs of Mutum village, alongside Chief Matsini.
Tuikuru is the son of Chief and spiritual leader Matsini Yawanawa. He comes from a long line of leaders and was raised as such. He carries with him a very strong and direct connection to ancestral wisdom and his songs carry the powerful healing force of the forest.

Rasu é neto do grande Pajé Tata, um dos mais respeitados anciãos do povo Yawanawá. Rasu foi escolhido e criado por Tata para ser seu sucessor e foi um de seus alunos mais próximos até o falecimento de Tata, aos 103 anos. Rasu foi o mais jovem Yawanawá a completar a mais alta iniciação espiritual de seu povo, com apenas 17 anos. Atualmente é um dos caciques da aldeia Mutum, ao lado do cacique Matsini.
Tuikuru é filho do chefe e líder espiritual Matsini Yawanawa. Ele vem de uma longa linhagem de líderes e foi criado como tal. Ele carrega consigo uma conexão muito forte e direta com a sabedoria ancestral e suas canções carregam a poderosa força curativa da floresta.
