Thank you for posting this video I have just replaced three broken straps after there was an accidental remote closure of the door whilst a piece of plywood was propped up at 45 degree angle across the threshold! Unfortunately I couldn't find a replacement strap the the aluminium profile that has been used on my doors. Thankfully the section of the strap that broke on the three were not the lath connection llink. Although the profile was different the dimensions of the links were the same so I was able to knock out the metal pins and attach the old part. (This means that there are still a couple of usable parts should other links break) Hopefully this doesn't happen again, but i will try to source replacements that are compatible or invest in a 3d printer and modelling course... 😅 Thanks for your video really helpful. Useful Notes for others: - My door used machine bolts with allen / hex - Using my phone camera i was able to determine the type of bolt without rotating the cassette - I was able to unscrew the bolts using an allen key / stubby screw driver, without rotating the cassette. - The Hex / Octagon plastic wheels didn't have multiple settings for the connection rods.
Very helpful! Also very easy to understand and follow. I've just snapped 3 off after trapping a bicycle under the door that the sensor missed :-( Hopefully I can avoid the cost of getting someone in to fix by following this guide.
Very helpful thanks, Iv replaced all 3 of my straps that had broken. Now my door only opens partly before stopping. And I have to keep pressing the button and it opens in small increments. Then when closing the door doesn’t want to stop when it hits the floor. It seems like once the straps snapped the door has dropped and is out of sync with the settings maybe. The brand is somfy. Thanks.
Bammo88, correct sounds like it’s lost it open and closed positions. You should be able to manually open and closed resetting the positions on the position via buttons. If you look for the manual it should explain the setting procedure, it isn’t difficult. Hope that helps, regards Damian
Kris, the aluminium notches are only very small and localised. Moving them out of the way does significantly weaken the parts as there is still a considerable amount of the aluminium strip remaining. I have done this now on several of my latches without any issue. Hope that helps, regards Damian
I think that’ll be helpful if I can utilise the aluminium part of the lath. Mine is an ols door and it doesn’t have the part either side of the lath where the brass rods fit, is that normal? My bugger made an almighty crash and all 4 laths broke.☹
@alamosabill201, Sorry to here about your door problems. The bits where the brass rod fits is pretty important for the attachment of the roller to the laths. Assume they have broken and disappeared somewhere? regards Damian
I need to replace two 'Cardale Thermaglide / Novoferm Roller Door Locking Strap 77mm laths'. I can't seem to find a video relating to these laths as the other half is still attached.
Chris, the locking strap part that attaches to the laths normally doesn't need to be removed, hence why I made this video to explain. Is there something missing in the video? regards Damian
What’s the difference between the 2 and 3 segment straps? Will either fit do you know? My door contains 2 segment straps, but the 3 segments seem easier to get hold of currently. Thanks, Tom
Tom, my door used 3 segment straps but there are the same ones with four segments. In my case it was the same just another segment (duplicate segment) added in the strap to lengthen. Are you sure yours is only 2 segments? If so, you should be able to buy a similar design 3 segment strap and remove a segment. The pivot pins are a fiction fit and knock out quite easily. Hope thar helps, regards Damian
Hi Damian, not Garage door related. I'm trying to find your car seat refurbishment video where you changed the covers on the XK8. Are you still happy with them, and i assume a link to where you purchased them is on the video description?
Matt, sorry I haven’t removed my seat covers yet. Most be another persons video maybe this one. ua-cam.com/video/DeBajdWLdbw/v-deo.html I have purchased second hand covers and intend to get them ‘renewed’. Good luck with you seat project, regards Damian
@@ODRModurol Thanks Damian, that was the one!!! Could have sworn it was one of yours, hence my query as I couldn't find it in your back catalogue. Cheers. Matt

Hello thanks for this video. Won't removing the notches on the aluminium strip cause it to become weak over time?
