Fabulously produced video of the Tudor Submariner. Thank you! I just yesterday procured a 9701 - learning this reference, and the movement contained while watching your video. Again, thank you! All your efforts are greatly appreciated!
One has to keep in mind that the Tudor Sub wasn't a luxury watch back then. They filled the same slot as Seiko diver do today - a solid, high quality sports watch. When I bought my first Rolex - a Pepsi GMT - in 1992, the Rolex was $1600 (msrp) and a Tudor Sub was - if I remember correctly - $450.
I was recently gifted two Tudor Subs from my mother in law. They belonged to my late father in law. The oldest is my favourite, a 1960 pointed crown guard 7928. The other is a newer 1997 the last version they did. Both lovely watches.
Thank you so much for the history lesson on my favorite watch brand! Information like this gives me a better understanding and appreciation for my Tudor 79220B!
Great video about Tudor Subs. Great brand, love that final old well worn Tudor in the video. In 1995 I very nearly bought a new Tudor submariner from David M Robinsons, but ended up buying the 1995 TAG Heuer 25 Jewel Automatic Series 2000. I still have this watch, box and papers and it runs well having been serviced & overhauled by Tag in 2013. I have just ordered the new Black Bay 79230N (black bezel) with in-house movement. 12 weeks to wait. Cheers.
Definitely one of your most interesting videos. I love the vintage Tudor Subs especially the 9401 but at present they are very much overvalued. I suppose that makes the Black Bay even more appealing by comparison but I'll continue to search for the vintage.
Armand great video as always. If I may be so bold as to make one suggestion based on this and previous videos - you need a microphone with a 'pop' shield or just buy an external one. My HIFI speakers and ears will thank you for it. Keep up the good work!
Love my Tudor ... am so disappointed that I didn’t purchase a blue 90’s date sub when I purchased a black one ... I loved the watch but couldn’t stretch the funds ... something that is laughable in today’s market valuation. The watch is a workhorse and I’ve worn it everyday and everywhere! Diving, mountain biking, trekking, you name it! Great video ... thanks 😁
Nice vid. I would have liked to see costs, esp. as compared to the equivalent Rolex Subs of the day. I think of these watches, perhaps unfairly, as a cheaper, more affordable Rolex so I'm curious as to how much one would have saved buy purchasing one vice a Rolex
My favorite is the blue snowflake. It's the one in the line that really stands out as unique and interesting. It's a little bit ugly, too, which is fine for a tool watch that is prioritizing functionality.
Glad I kept mine. It was beat up and not keeping good time when issued by the USN. I sent it to a Swiss watchmaker. It looked and ran perfectly after service and cleaning. Never leaked while diving. Hooyah.
Great video! Only thing I would add would be the 9401 with the round indices and snowflake hands (a design that ultimately inspired the HBB line). There were a number of them made, at least some of which made it into the Canadian Navy.
Given that they have the word Submariner printed on the dial, the answer is yes. As a mid-size version of the 79090/79190 people tend not to cover them both. A shame it wasn’t even referred to though.
I have on from mid seventies No bezel and snowflakes falling off Won’t keep time and stem is seperated from case. But I still have stem but not bezel. Reply to me please
Stupid question..on the bottom of 12.. I THOUGH THE TUDOR ROSE.THEN OYSTER-PRINCE .and on top of number 6, ROTOR SELF WINDING..but the point is the movements are from Ω561 OMEGA ......IS A FAKE TUDOR?
Didn't think Rolex had in house movements until 2004 when the Borer family sold the Aegler company to Rolex. Up until 2004 you thought it was in house as Aegler only supplied Rolex.
+kevin parker: Quite right, however, I would regard this as more in-house than contemporaries since the movements of Omega were largely made by Lemania which supplied other brands too.
@@ArmandTheWatchGuy More exclusive than in house, that's all. Amazes me the amount of people who say that Rolex have always done everything, when i have had to point out they were not even watch makers at the start. Just bought in the bits & made watches & over the years have bought their suppliers out when they came up for sale. Cases, dials & bracelets, but you can't knock it, its seems to have worked!
You contradict yourself a bunch in this video. I assume this is from talking about something you have never held in your hand. One example is about the bezel and how the feel/work. You said three different ones where the best from them.
I absolutely love these “Story of an Icon” series of videos. Could you do one on the Rolex Daytona, please? It is hard to find videos with information like yours all in one place. Most of the videos are just reviews about on particular watch. Thank you, good day.

And the tudor sub remained bidirectional bezel until 1990
thank you, great video, as a tudor fan it was great to view the history of the tudor sub

Both lovely watches.
The early Tudor script and the rose is spot on man.
Pity it will kill you
....it's sad you're not producing vids anymore...hope you are well and happy

Very well done history on a truly iconic watch.
Brilliant series of videos - many thanks

I thank you so much for this post, informative and helpful.
Armand, you are a story of an icon! (in the making)!!
Btw, I miss the equalees.
Great job Armand...I really enjoyed this video! The HBB in red is a grail of mine. Have a great day
Another great vid my friend! Very well researched work.
Great video! I have a TSub Snowflake 94110, a pity that it wasn't included in the video. All the best!
Great video but was hoping for some info on the transitional 76100...
7928 is one of my grail watches, absolutely fantastic.
Well done ,great vid..I like them all..I really need one in my life..

no tudor mini sub?
Glad I kept mine. It was beat up and not keeping good time when issued by the USN. I sent it to a Swiss watchmaker. It looked and ran perfectly after service and cleaning. Never leaked while diving. Hooyah.
Very informative as ever many thanks...
You skip the transitional model, ref 76100 from 1984...
Great video! Only thing I would add would be the 9401 with the round indices and snowflake hands (a design that ultimately inspired the HBB line). There were a number of them made, at least some of which made it into the Canadian Navy.
interesting.. How does one find year of manufacture. I have the serial number
Where have u been Armand? Miss your vids
Superb video Armand
When will they make a sub again
Are the ref 75090/75190 also considered be part of the Submariner lineup? Just curious as to why they don't get as much coverage

Outstanding!
I have on from mid seventies
No bezel and snowflakes falling off
Won’t keep time and stem is seperated from case. But I still have stem but not bezel.
Reply to me please
You looking to sell it? I’d love one in my collection
Great very informative
What is the story about the mini sub? 73090. Is it for men or boy?

Very informative video
great job!
La perfection de ton accent british m'agace profondement. Tu l'as assimilé comment?

I wished you added the transitional small rose 7016 from 1968... oh well but very good vid none the less.
You contradict yourself a bunch in this video. I assume this is from talking about something you have never held in your hand. One example is about the bezel and how the feel/work. You said three different ones where the best from them.
The only thing I want on the BB58 is crown guards!
Like the small rose..
7928 & 79190 are both must have watches IMO 1 down 1 to go.... :)

Super accent mec, felicitations!
Now tudor is the new rolex!!!!!
Tudor mini sub
I like them more than the rokex
The one from 1954, ref. 7922, is the most elegant and the 1969, ref. 7016, is the most bad a$$ tool diver
👍
My 1989 version was perfect. More Rolex than Tudor.
the nick pope of watches
Dear Tudor, Please make your Tudor Submariner watches bigger. I would like 44mm or more.
You talk in circles and don't make sense at times
Stop watching then
This guy's delivery, pseudo hesitation and dreaful sound makes this un-watchble and interloerable. Stop trying to be something you're not.
