Honestly, the dolls are what carry this series. They're incredibly beautiful, detailed, and very high quality for that caliber of doll, and *usually* justify their typically high price point. meanwhile the show gives me the same feeling as if i'm being forced to eat concrete cereal while watching paint dry. A.k.a frustratingly boring.

It's unfortunate how badly this comment aged, and it's only 11 days old.
The problem with Rainbow High is that it’s supposedly all about dRaMa but their issues are SO surface-level, barely interesting because the characters are just lacking minimum depth and personality. Unlike shows like Monster High and Ever After High, which stories don’t even base themselves on drama.
I think the most drama rainbow high had was the bella situation back in season 1 meanwhile monster high G3 has really been cooking in terms of the show

The fact that they forgot about Skyler being a main cast member speaks more volumes to the creators lack of being able to handle multiple characters. Takes some notes from Naruto 🍥

I feel like if anyone saw the dolls in store seeing that skyler got a whole set, it was pretty obvious who was going to win project rainbow
It's interesting cause doll winning outfits came out before the show announced the winner. I saw them at Target once and just thought nothing of it, but then I watched the finale and realized they had the dolls come out and accidentally revealed the winner.
I feel like the only form of plot development we see is that some of the rainbow high and shadow high students are getting along despite their schools long history as rivals. that’s pretty much it tho.
The winner was very predictable. Of course it will be the one who is part of the main girls and got emotional side-storylines towards the finale
Last I remember watching Project Runway (Season 19), they brought in a woman that made bright colorful garments, and she was always in the bottom and eliminated by the end of the first half because they *hate* costume-like garments. So while a cosplayer designer *would* be neat, it would not fit if they wanted it to be accurate to the source material they're referencing.

I remember one season of Project Runway where a designer didn't know how to use a sewing machine. She was eliminated a few episodes in, but there was drama between the people who helped her and everyone else who said that she should already know how to use one.
Who was she?
I actually liked Season 4. It did show off a lot of great outfits and I actually enjoyed the tension since I was rooting for different people. I’m not super happy Skyler won. Shanelle was a lot more talented for haute couture which seemed to be the focus of the competition. Though I am not a collector (I have Shanelle, Perle, Heather, and Jett) so I’m fine with clothes I can’t actually buy for dolls.

Chanelle's final designs were better than Skylar's final designs in my opinion. I think she should've won as well.
Chanelle committed plagiarism and Skyler made clothes that would run in the rain.

@excel5174 honestly, neither of them deserved to win. I really get the impression that Avery and Ainsley were supposed to be the final 2. People say Chanelle paid homage to Ainsley's fashion closet, but lol, no, she did not. Every outfit is straight-up copied from it. Her line incorporates multiple looks with pants, which she had just gone off about hating in the previous episode. As for Skyler's looks, they dont really seem like something she'd make. She's the denim on denim queen, not tacky plastic. This looks far more like an Avery design. Only she could make something like this. I really get the impression that late in production after everything was nostly already animated, someone demanded the final 2 be changed from Ainsley and Avery to Chanelle and Skylar. It's hard to enjoy the finale because of this for me.
I feel like if they wanted to go full project runway, they could've had the characters be put in a house together during the competition. Making a bunch of high schoolers living together while under the stress of competition could've led to some interesting drama and conflict. Or at least go a little more with the reality tv aspect and "film" them while they're in class/out of the competition.
Cosplay is a great idea, but true Project Runway is using "costumy" as a put down. For a kids show especially, cosplay would have been a great challenge.
I definitely feel the eliminations were all over the place. As much as I love me some Avesly, I feel they should be eliminated early on to give the newbies screen time and they had a storyline last season (Same with Glitch). I would also put Aiden in the final 3 to see how he's like apart from the As. I liked Rex the most out of the newbies cuz he's so sassy yet determined. I wish we saw more from Priscilla and Olivia. Skylar to me is the most boring of the complementary colors to me so I didn't care that she won but I was also confused to how Ainsley got eliminated when her crown was the best.
skyler actually got her dream and design studio. I have it as I'm a seamstress myself, and the fabrics they provided are actually really cool! some have rainbow high prints on them (a la jacquard).
Skyler's last outfit was literally to promote getting their colour and create dolls. Literally like "Hey kids you can do this too, don't you want to do this, this is super cool, you should ask your parents to get this, Skyler made it"
1). Even though a cosplayer wouldn't be considered "runway" enough, that could be a characters arch to incorporate their interest and skil lsets into leaning new ones! Even a sub plot where they have to see how much of their own design sense should they ignore for the sake of the competition! (The great artist conundrum)
2). Yeah, I agree about the pay off for this series being ONE doll is kinda boring... I think since the series was about fashion, they should've made the end goal be a minj line of dolls that ref the season!

i still hate that they made sunny dress in that runway outfit, and then her sister looked so off compared to her XD they should have given her some fancy outfit to go with it. also i find it odd that im pretty sure that color your own clothes doll came out BEFORE the release of the first episode of season 1...... it was already out why make a big deal about it in show lol

There’s apparently going to be a reboot of rainbow high next year that has to do with slime (which I PERSONALLY don’t like). Some pictures have already leaked.
I guess they want to get back to their origins (poopsie slime surprise was weird and I’m not sure if slime is in one of the popularity heights)

A problem with Rainbow high is that they introduce new characters in like three episodes then they make a doll of that character but you rarely ever see them again, like the characters don’t have that much screen time or development yet dolls are made, but I don’t think a lot of people would buy a $30 doll of a character they barely know anything about or only saw twice. Like in contrast I remember that back in the golden days both Monster High and Ever After High each once held the title for the most dolls of different characters made in a single year. But both put in the work so that all the characters had development and actually had something unique about them. Like in MH we’d be introduced to characters in either the movies or the show and they would often cross over, then form movie to movie we would follow different characters but the old ones were still present. Like in frights camera action not all the ghouls went with Draculaura, Opereta and Robecca joined the crew but we still knew what was going on with Frankie, Lagoona, Ghoulia, etc at the school. And in Ever After while some characters got focus in the movies we still kept up with them in the regular show. Like in Spring Unsprung we got to know Bunny and Alister and we kept up with them and their love story in other episodes of the show.
Yaaay. It does the thing it's designed to do! We love nameless entity fashion 😂

The Draw on Dolls where done to market the "Make your Style" line we just got. Honestly It was a fun Semi Organic way to market the line. When you look at how they did this VS the RainbowVision Band Dolls

It feels very much like Rainbow High has been putting it's all into a new direction. Or that's what I hope. The new dolls all seem very cohesive and I'm excited to see them. The episode drama also came back with the latest episode. Hold on for the hype.
I'm upset about Skylar's win and the colour and create dolls too, but I'm thinking it's the equivilant of bringing the mains back into focus and building hype (why wasn't amaiya there... Feel like they were just getting people to buy more Skylar). I think you forgot the history of The A's and I liked seeing a little of them. I'm sad there isn't much shadowhigh coming with the next rainbow high doll leaks. I hope they are still here.

I very much do know about Bakugan(13:05) when you mentioned it. I really need to finish watching tbh because as a kid when it was coming out I don't think I ever made it to the end, then started to watch it more, stopped and then a revamp came out that wasn't the same. Speaking of that, I was about ask if you did videos on Bakugan yet and to do some if not, but I found the 5 year old ones and am now gonna do a watch.

MGA always seems to have this problem. They'll have something great and then they'll just ruin it. The latest episode of Rainbow High was fine until the end. It looks like they're trying to reintroduce poopsie slime
I'm surprised you didn't realize that the show is a glorified commercial since season 3(all MGA shows are like that after the Reboot Bratz show, the last actual show they made). FYI, white haired Amaya Rayne & Avery Styles are the deluxe dolls from series 1 back in 2020, so they've been discontinued by now. Amaya is a hair dye doll & it's a lot easier to color her hair but also stained it more. I think that's why the markers in these new dolls are a lot weaker, yet from your confessional it still stains the hair? Bummer.
Anyway, I know you hate the LOL OMG movie, but I hope you'll give the show a try(I did drop out after 10 episodes though).

Edit: also the draw on art is so sad. I will say a way to color the hair is really cool!!! I wish they did that more since I loved wigs on my Liv dolls. That was the coolest part of them too!! I also loved the play sets since they were make of paper materials and not a waste of plastic and were very easy to fold and store away too.
I would have loved if instead they did the Barbie idea from years ago where you stuff the fabric in and make random dresses OR OR make a fake sewing machine that “makes” the clothes and teaches girls (and boys and my fellow nbs ;) ) how to sew as it’s a good life skill!

Thank you for mentioning Novi Stars ⭐️. I refused to watch RH🌈 season 4. I don’t know why they keep adding new characters and forgetting the main cast. Like what Unicorn of War said: ‘’Capitalism ruins Art’’. I feel they are creating a new season each because....💵💵💵💷💷💷💷💷💵💵 MONEY 💵. Season 3 was good but it will be even better if they explored it character personalities and the plot. I like the idea 💡 of a character who is cosplayer will resonate with the audience. For example casual cosplay, or even traditional cosplay. The dolls and fashion look awesome 😎 but it’s just the writing ✍🏾. Great video 👍🏾

tbh i actually like the piece whose designs are drawn on bc (I think it could be) it’s a ref to an Alexander McQueen runway look where a model in a stark white dress is painted on by spraying robots, now idk if Mattel was actually thinking about high fashion looks when they gave skylar the win but if they were then it’d be pretty creative
The creators of Rainbow High don't have any of their own ideas. Rainbow Vision was just Euro Vision and Project Rainbow was just putting the characters into a Project Runway situation. The show is just how they use their marketing budget to advertise and sell the dolls.
This is random, but I watched this video to watch while eating and I legit almost spit my food out when I heard my name on a rainbow high character because I NEVER hear my name anywhere, plus, its also spelled the same so I was like "omg !! I'm in a show I've barely heard of !!"

The season was to sell the draw on them dolls AND the fancy dress dolls of the original girls. Since they had to call back to those dresses to make people wanna buy them since they came out in the show so long ago.
If you think this is bad, just wait until you see the extra episode with the reveal of crystal slime pets. Season 5 is gonna be.....something.

With the show it was so predictable of who’s going home and with the doll community saying Skyler is definitely going to win cause she had a playset doll come out during the show airing so big bust of a season

A cosplay character would just a walking cataloge for the doll lines. Again Novi Stars, not to mention bratz. Also Mermaze getting another pass would be cool.
Yeah I didn't need to catch this season. They are so focused on introducing new dolls because it's a doll line first, show second. But I'm gonna be honest, even without the show, the dolls are too much. It's way too many new characters per release, way too much of an investment if you want to collect them all, but even if you just grab dolls you like like I do, it's not worth it. Series 4 and all the factory defects really put me off, in addition to the poorly done webisodes. The last doll I bought was Monique, only because she was on clearance and I wanted to steal her dress for another doll. Turns out, she's actually great, really wish they did more dolls with textured hair, they're literally the best ones. If they've fixed the defects with this line over, I sure as heck haven't heard about it. And I'm seeing more and more leaks that indicate the dolls are not doing well. More budget releases with decreased articulation are coming, stuff like keeping all the joints but the wrist, taking away the wrists, elbows, and knees, and then generic stuff like swimsuits? I'm a little concerned that this series is going downhill. And y'know, given they couldn't get their act together about quality control, maybe it's time. This is getting corporate, the things that made RH fun aren't the focus anymore.

See, it's interesting for me because I've been a fan of Rainbow High for two years now. They got me into collecting dolls, actually. My first was Jett Dawson cos I went for River but Target had Jett for $17 on clearance. Anyway, this is *literally* the first I'm hearing/seeing of the show at all. And honestly? As an adult? I don't wanna know what my dolls sound/act like. I want to do that part. I wanna make up what and who they are. So at least from an adult collector I can SO see that the dolls are just the selling point and the show is something you could put a kid in front of with their toy and maybe they won't care much?
I genuinely had to stop watching all the ___ baking championship shows on Food network because of what you said around 2:10 minutes. A couple years ago someone won Halloween Baking Championship solely because her sob story, she should have been out way before the finale. I was so mad I couldnt watch it anymore.
What makes me saddest about the Project Rainbow season is that we'll never get dolls of the Shadow High girls who served as models. The girl with Natasha's skin tone and the blue hair is gorgeous, and I want her in the chinoiserie inspired dress. With the new direction the dolls have taken, any hope of another wave of original-style RH/SH dolls has gone down the drain along with that ink. Also, I want a Maria Garcia doll in that power suit.

I feel like a better way to combat the multiple characters and constantly adding new ones is saying they have graduated and there alumni n are helping the students get internships and find what’s right for them but at the end of the day it’s a corporation trying to sell dolls so
The doll probably wasnt dedicated for the season and was probably a last resort to incorporate the doll into the show, most shows that are essentially ads for toys will tend to be based off the pre-existing toys so while the dolls were already being manufactured the team writing the show has to create a concept based off the dolls

I think the final looks could have worked…. had they not been in the finale. They probably would’ve have been more impressive if they appeared earlier in the season. But to make that the winning collection after we’ve seen the teams produce more eye-catching, glamorous outfits in the episodes before is very questionable. I know, at the end of the day MGA is trying to sell dolls but they could have come up with a better conclusion for this season. I hope they produce some dolls wearing other winning looks from the competition. I would definitely spend money on that.
