- This is my restoration of an old (English made) Parkinson’s Samsonia no. 37 model J vice.
I’ve not been able to find much information referencing the approximate date.
If anyone has any knowledge on these types of vices, or a way to work out the approximate date of manufacture, I’d love for you to share in the comments.
Some of the screws holding in the jaws were seized. I had to drill them out and tap new threads.
The handle was very corroded on one side as shown in the video. I managed to source an old bolt that was the perfect length and diameter to use as a replacement.
As I don’t currently have a welder, I used JB Weld to secure the end caps. I’m hoping that this will hold. If not, I’ll drill a hole in each of the end caps and use a pin or threaded screw to mechanically fasten.
The colour isn’t historically accurate but it does match some of the other restorations that I’ve done.
l’m very pleased to have brought this vice back to a smooth working condition, and it’ll get a lot of use by me in the future.
