  • I'm posting this video not because its a cinematic masterpiece or because I made such a beautiful piece of art, but rather to document my learning process of the pole lathe. The plate I turned was slightly too rotted, turned too thin and ended up breaking in the drying process. I still wanted to finish this piece because its good practice, so watch me be mediocre while i learn!
I'm 100% self taught from watching youtube videos and trial and error. This is maybe the 6th attempt and its one of the few that the final product didn't make it. I think the biggest issue was the piece of wood itself wasn't in good shape, and in the future I'll be more critical of my wood selection
I'm open to criticism from anyone with turning experience so please feel free to comment!

Hey thanks so much for the advice it’s greatly appreciated! My mandrel is something I know needs work, probably need some new ones, maybe a toothed one as well. But I didn’t know the hearing part and that makes a lot of sense. After I made this I started flipping the work piece from right to left side to hollow the bowl and found it works way better. I have saved that video you tagged and I’ll check that out. Once again thanks so much for your insight, I really appreciate you!
