    You're amazing, Yong Chen - you explain things so patiently and generously, and address all the things that beginners / painters could ask - You make us feel we can do it ! Thank you :)

    This technique is great for limited palette but require real quality good paper to work on. But I truly love the idea of creating a skintone using primary colours.

    Great video. I am fairly new to painting, just playing around mostly and not really understanding what I'm doing but enjoying it just the same. This explanation is so helpful. Very nice.

    Thank you so much for this! I always think it's diffecult to see the color from a picture. When you see a blue colour I don't see it😅 But I know it's a shadow color. I have a lot of problem with glacing.

    Hello good day. What if I don't have any winsor red and winsor yellow? Can I use lemon yellow or medium yellow and brilliant red?

  • @meeraahuja1594

    Great video. Thank you for sharing. A question though. If we add darker colours to lighter, wouldn't it be easier? That is, adding red/ blue/ purple to yellow rather than the othet way round. Which shade of red?

    Thank you. May I ask your primary color pigment names?
    Edit: winsor blue (or Prussian blue), winsor yellow, winsor red
    Edit2: unfortunately these seem to be more expensive artist line of winsor. I need to stick with Cotman series

    • @YongChen
      @YongChen  2 роки тому +2

      For other brands or quality paints, they may be a bit different, but the analysis and mixing process can be the same. For the blue, I use either Prussian blue or winsor blue (green shade).

    i think its burnt sennia that dulls the colours down......how do you dull down the colour from just 3 colours.

      Use the oppsite or next to opposite color on the color wheel, known as complimentary color. So he mixed red and blue and got purple, opposite color to purple on color wheel is yellow. Depending on amount of yellow you use, until eventually it is brown. But just a little tones down purple. Like yellow and blue make green, opposite color of green on color wheel is red. Opposite of blue is orange. Hope this helps and correct me if I am wrong Yong Chen.

    Just to be clear, there are way more skin tones than the ones you presented. Most of the african continent, and a lot of the south asians STARTS at your "darkest" and goes far darker. And using more blue is not always the solution. I hope you actually paint dark skinned people.
