  • Are you ready to try waffle weave? It is easy to thread and treadle on 4 shafts. Two important things to remember - There is more shrinkage than you think and sett your yarn closer than you do for other weave structures. The long floats are ok - it is what makes the waffle look.
Several colors were used in the warp and weft. This made this whole experiment very interesting. I addition 3 different treadling sequences were used.

Hi Margery, thank you so much for your prompt reply. I really appreciate it. I do have a metal rod. I already use one on the back beam, so I'll change out the wood lease tie-on stick with the metal. Thanks again!

I love waffle weave but have never done stripes. Is that what makes a different color on the back?

The different colors on each side happened because I used 6 different colors in the warp. I truly had no idea this would happen. A friend showed me a waffle weave she did in two colors. Mostly purple with a few blue stripes. She did not get the same results. This warp was a bit of an experiment to use up some yarn in my stash. You may get a similar result mixing 3 colors. If you have access to a computer program you could create two patterns..to show both sides. I may do this in the future.

Hi Margery -- I have a question: I weave with a pretty tight warp, especially kitchen towels. The front beam lease stick bows and of course, so does the fabric. Is there a trick to keeping that from happening? Should I just back off on my warp tension? Thanks! Jill, Oregon

Perhaps you need thicker lease sticks when winding on. For the rod that I attach the warp to, both front and back, I use a metal rod instead of wood. I like that is is round and less likely to bow. Also if the warp is narrower than your loom…make sure it is attached to the apron or cords at both ends. I hope this makes sense.

Are you going to have a draft to sell in your Etsy store?

Yes. Here is the link. I just did the same threading using a different blend of colors….posted one color still on the loom on my FB page. maverickson.etsy.com/listing/1574879591
