Excellent, thank you. Pattern matching is my nemesis and something I need to learn, so thank you. I now feel brave enough to try stripes. I am looking forward to the next large pattern fabric matching video. I also love your comment, 'Don't let perfection steal your joy'. I am going to embroider that, frame it, and hang it on my sewing room wall where I can see it every day.
Your shacket turned out awesome. Your plaid matching was so spot on, your pieces just disappeared in the video when you laid them on top of your fabric to "trace"! Another great video with lots of little nuggets of wisdom and experience! Thanks Whitney!
Super helpful as always! When I watched the Friday Pattern Co sew along for the Ilford jacket, she used painter's tape to mark the wrong side of the fabric. It wasn't plaid, but the idea stuck with me. That was a lifesaver for me in keeping track of which side is which when cutting out my single layer plaid. Thanks for all the great info!
Hi Whitney, your shacket turned out beautifully and I think this will become a favourite in your wardrobe. It is a garment that you can just throw over what ever you are wearing if you need to pop out on an errand. Thank you for your instructions - I particularly liked the hint on how to mark the grain line if you wish to cut something on the bias. I am about to make several aria shirts out of some vintage linen. I am planning a pattern hack in that I want to make the shirt tail longer at the centre back. I think this should look good. Take care with all your travels. 🤗
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Wonderful video. You answered so many questions and explained things so clearly that I had regarding matching plaids, i.e., if you're cutting single layer -- do you cut the same piece front up or front down - no one ever says. It was indeed an eye opener -- at least for me. I think that everyone just assumes you would know how to cut the piece out-- but you really don't know how and you (me) flounder. I really appreciate you making the tutorial and I look forward to learning how to cut out a large-scale print.
Thanks for the tutorial! Ive been put off stripes and plaids because of the matching but your approach is soooo much simpler than the way I had pictured it being done!
great shacket! I have short arms and I usually shorten the sleeves and the placket (I calculate the proportions between the length of the sleeve and the placket).
I love how this shacket turned out, the plaid is great, and of course your matching is awesome. I’m usually very lazy and don’t cut the fabric in single layer. In the long run it probably would take less time than trying to get things to line up :) Take care, keeping your family in my prayers. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, this helped me a lot on matching the plaids. Now where my big issue is the sleeve placket. I don't know why but that is always so difficult for me.
@@TomKatStitchery This came in so handy, I'm on my 2nd Stewart plaid, I've made them for both of my son's. I made one when the other came to visit he loved it so much that I'm now making one for him too. I'd actually like one for me, the bright clear red in it fits so well in my complexion. But Christmas sewing is starting and with four kids my machines hardly get a chance to cool down.
I would love to see the Octopi fabric used to teach large print scale fabric placement. Another great video, thank you Whitney! OBTW, I have a cat ( named ' Gidget') who makes your Gidget puppy to be not needy at all. I could cite many examples but the funniest one involves my robe. My son gave me a robe made of black minky type fabric. Gidget is a gray tabby with white patches. Gidget thinks the robe is hers! When I shake off the cat hair to wear the robe she follows me around complaining ( in her cat noises). I rarely wear the robe bc everyone calls it " Gidget's Robe".
😂 I love the Gidget story! I miss having a cat (my husband is really allergic). As far as the octopi fabric, that is a great idea to use that for a large scale print matching!
Sorry, me and technology are not best friends 😂. I want to support your channel as you are the lift in my day - thank you- but for the life of me cannot find the Coffee or Koffe account. I generally watch you on my TV, but have looked on my Ipad and still no luck. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 fir your mum and your family and keep the videos coming.

Hi Everyone. I always listen to Whitney :); so, I've been coveting the book "Ahead of the Curve" by Jenny Rushmore. Low and behold, it was on sale at Joann's today for 20% off (almost $7:00 off). I couldn't resist. Looks like a great book in case anyone else has a Joann's nearby!!
Another great video! I especially love that you say not to let perfection steal your joy of creating!
Good!
I learn something new every time I watch your tutorials. Cutting some pieces on the bias solves several matching problems. Thank you. Canadian Sue
It makes everything much easier and add interest!

Excellent tutorial Whitney! I didn’t know how to mark the pattern pieces for bias. This was so helpful!
Oh good!
Great job of matching plaid and inserting bias pieces for added interest. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Great video as always. I love that you reminded us that we go for great not perfection!
Oh good! I know that perfection can really get in the way of enjoying the sewing hobby!

Claps for the plaid shacket.

Wow a lot of fussy work, but so worth it , it came out Awesome
Thank you!
Thanks Whitney Great tutorial 👏👏👏. Now I want to make the Aria shirt and the Aria Shaket ❤. 🤓🏴
Oh good!
Whitney, your shacket looks wonderful. Excellent plaid matching! ♥️ Lovely job, as usual!
Thank you so much!

Great tutorial and I love the Shacket. Getting some sewing done but busy playing war & go fish with my granddaughter.
Aww! You are a great grandma!
Thanks for this very informative plaid matching tut. I will definitely use it in the future.

I'm also lazy! I cut on the fold unless matching is absolutely necessary 😂.
Great tutorial, thanks. I no longer have to hide behind not matching is a choice 😅
I'm so glad you found this helpful!
Thanks, this helped me a lot on matching the plaids. Now where my big issue is the sleeve placket. I don't know why but that is always so difficult for me.
The sleeve placket can be fiddly!

Great video real learning tulle

great video!

Good info 👍🏼
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
So, the bias pieces can be cut double thickness, except the straight grain yoke, right?
Yes
Great tutorial. Thank-you. Did you say you interfaced the placket as well?
Yes. I interfaced the placket, cuffs and collar/collar stand.
Just noticed your "fabric" label on the scissors--great idea! Where did you find that?
😂 Isn't that clever? A friend of mine gave me a set. One says fabric and the other says paper.
Wow, the plaid really does disappear when matched. I'd have to place the paper pattern over the pieces in order to cut the second front.
You could definitely do that once you have the placement figured out!
Hi Whitney. Can you tell me what type of pattern tracing paper you use. I use exam paper but it’s to thin. Your paper looks a little heavier. Thx
Mine is also exam paper. I get mine here: www.amazon.com/McKesson-18-914-Smooth-Economy-Length/dp/B06XD2NZCD/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=VBIX4A4461I5&keywords=medical+exam+paper&qid=1667316662&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIzLjM5IiwicXNhIjoiMy40MyIsInFzcCI6IjMuMjEifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=medical+exam+paper%2Caps%2C105&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&smid=A37RYXSF82P86Q
Do you use regular paper to print your patterns? Or do use a lighter weight paper?
I use cheap printer paper as its just a bit thinner.
